  1. I like the colors in the hex bet it smells great and will have a wondeful glow with those colors when burning.....I gotta ask I am assuming the ice candles are considered a novelty candle and not for burning?
  2. I think those are adorable. I had looked at that mold but was wondering if they would come out easy with all that detail and not being able to flex the mold....looks like it works great.
  3. Leave it to our kids lol my 17 year old is always coming up with ideas for me
  4. I will look at the dvd's, that would be really nice to be able to watch someone else going thru the steps hhhmmmmm really like that idea. On the book I was looking and she actually has some of her stuff online so I have been reading and it looks like all of hers are 10# batches way to much for me. I was reading some of the older posts on here last night a found a link someone had posted that was very helpful and went into detail on the soapmaking process. Thank you all so much for responding all help is greatly appreciated. I will read on, I think I'm about to go crosseyed lol but I am enjoying it. Thanks Donna
  5. I am new to soy candles I have mostly worked with canes I don't sell my soys yet because I have to much testing to do yet. maybe I shouldn't really be posting because I am so new but I have had the same problem and I can tell you what I did (not sure if it's ok but it worked and might upset some people for doing this but here goes) On the first one when mine look like that I either set it in a pan of hot water to remelt the outside of the candle then let it set and cool slowly, or I have just heat gunned it to remelt the outside. On the second one I am not real sure but looking at the pic it looks like part of it has seperated from the jar and some hasn't, if it hasn't been more than a day or two since you poured it you can set it in the fridge for 5 minutes and maybe a few minutes more if you have to (it will continue to seperate after being removed from fridge) and usually the rest will pull away from the glass and it will look very uniform and actually very nice HTH Donna
  6. Thank you for replying. I found this site from one of the other threads on here (been reading alot on here) and the soap calculator (really confusing lol) but I an getting it figured out. I was wondering if there is a book that takes you through the mixing process step by step and the do's and dont's so I don't hurt myself (I am a bit of a clutz). I know alot of people on here find it offensive and get very angry when we newbee's ask for help but as I said before I enjoy the research and trial and error of learning but funds are limited so if I could find a book that is a good resource so I don't end up buying a dozen that are just fluff if you know what I mean, to get a better idea of how to do this. I have been looking for a good one but since I know very little about it I'm not sure which ones are good and which ones are the over simplified junk that can get a person hurt. I have found lots of recipes and a wealth of tips on this site but I think maybe a good book would help and be a good place to start. If I have offender anyone by asking .... I do apologize but I would rather ask the question than take a chance on making a dangerous product. TIA Donna
  7. I make candles, mostly hurricanes but I have been spending hour after hour looking at pics and reading the soap posts on here amd have to say I am VERY impressed. The soaps I have seen on here are beautiful and very creative I can see that alot of thought and hard work is put into making soap. I have never tried a bar of home made soap but have heard that once you do you can never go back to otc soap. I am not ready to just start buying supplies to make soap. I feel that just like candles it deserves to be treated with respect and alot of research before attempting. As I said I am reading everything I can on here and everywhere else but would like to have some opinions on the best place to start as far as a good type of soap for an extreme newbie when I am ready to give it a try. And any sugestions on reading materials would be very welcome. TIA Please understand I'm not asking for someone to just feed me all the info and trade secretes like a baby bird expects it's mom to care for it's every need. I actually enjoy the challenge of trial and error of the learning process. Just a little advice from the pro's on where to start when it comes to researching for this amazing craft. P.S. thank you all so much for posting pics of your beautiful creations. Donna
  8. I can't even imagine how you did that but it's amazing. I love looking at your post always something to please the eye and get the imagination going Donna
  9. They look great, I really like the hint of color in the second one. I tried it several months ago just to play but I guess I wasn't dunking it right because most of the wax stayed really close to the plate with very tiny wisps going up a little, don't know if I was dunking to slow or what. Just might have give it another go after seeing yours. Thanks for posting the pictures. Donna
  10. The people on here are fantastic and will probably be able to tell you a very simple way to fix the problem, I'm a newbie myself and started out using hobby lobby wax, it shrinks horrible bad but it does give a good finish on a candle. I had a lot of trial and error and frustration before I figured it out. I just made sure I kept poking holes in the wax right around the wick (I use a skewer) so it didn't pull my wick off to the side and just let it cool for about an hour and a half and do my repour and always had to do 1 more repour about an hour later, always make sure your repour wax is hotter than what you poured the candle at, and be careful not to go past the outside edge of the wax when you do the repour because leaving it to cool so long it can start pulling away from the edge of the mold quite a bit and the wax will run down the side of the candle. P.S. you can print a coupon off at they're website and get 40% off on the wax, molds, melting pots etc every time or anything else. I'm a coupon printing fool lol hth
  11. I'm not Donita and certainly not an expert but I had this problem with my canes a couple weeks ago, it was frustrating to say the least because I had already made 2 that day from the same wax, actually same pot of wax. It finally dawned on me what it was. I had used the same water bath without cooling the water back down from the other 2 canes. Might try lowering the temp on your water bath enough to stop the mottle. hth Donna
  12. I think my canes are easy compared to soap. ( Ive seen some pics of yours they look fantastic) I've never even tried a bar of home made soap I've heard that once you have you can't go back. One of these days I'm gonna get the nerve up to try and make some. The ones I have seen on here are gorgeous.
  13. Thank you all very much. I was a bit nervous about putting some pics up because I have seen such beautiful candles on here. I started making candles because I saw a very pretty hurricane online and I have some really great inspiration to give it a a try and as soon as I get a pic made I will show you my inspiration, it's my granddaughter, and grandson. My granddaughter is with the angels now and my grandson was born a year after his sister left us, he was born with very damaged kidneys and has to have a transplant when he's 2 years old. He's absolutely beautiful and a gift from God. Sorry didn't mean to prattle on. thanks again for being so nice Donna
  14. The one that these were made in is actually a 5 1/2" canister I've had for quite a while and I haven't found a replacement for it yet but I have one that makes one a bit over 4 1/2" that I got at hobby lobby I found it next to the wedding party supplies for 6.99 and I printed they're online coupon at 40% off so I got it really cheap and I love it, you can go to www.hobbylobby.com anytime and go to the specials and coupon tab to print a coupon. If anyone finds one in the 5 1/2 size range please let me know where so I can get a back up because buying a real polycarbonate mold online isn't an option at they're prices.(cheapest I've found so far was over 50.00. Thanks Donna
  15. Well to be honest if I couldn't see the pic while I was placing it I would be in trouble...I think most people use a metal mold, there's no way I could do it that way so I actually use a polycarbonate clear canister I had setting on the kitchen counter lol it works and so far no one has noticed that it wasn't made in a real candle mold. I've seen clear molds on some of the candle supply sites but the cheapest I've found for this size (5.5" diameter) was about $50.00 so I think I like my canister.
  16. This is my first time to post and I'm new to candle making. Here's a couple of picture canes I've done. These are of my daughter and her boyfriend. This is when her hair was pink. Yeah I know but it sure made for a different candle lol
  17. You don't have to wait for Hobby Lobby to have a sale you can go to www.hobbylobby.com and click on the tab that says specials and coupons, you can always get a 40% off coupon there to print off to use on any one item. I never pay full price for anything there lol. I keep the coupons in my purse and I've never seen the coupon be any less the 40% off.
