  1. Yes, I am going to try a different sized wick, a larger one. I hope I get it right soon
  2. Well after a while it did start to get stronger, but was still light. I guess I was a little impatient. It's nice, and I put a smaller wick in the one that went out, and it's still going.
  3. That's a good idea, to make a big layered candle with the leftover wax. Once I try container candles, I think I might do that. I am making tiny melts with my leftovers right now, I have an old ice cube tray that I use for it.
  4. How sad, my first votives I did last week have hardly any scent throw at all...I can smell them only if I hold my head over the burning candle and breathe it in! I used 1oz love spell fo, 1 lb of KyPara/Soy wax blend for votives and tarts, and a small dye chip. Does it need to cure longer maybe? Where I'm keeping them smells nicely, it's a small drawer. And they have a soft fragrance to them cold, but, it's not like it would scent a room at all. What could the problem be? I thought I didn't let them cure long enough, but...I don't know. And then I thought maybe the fo just isn't good in soy. I made them for my husband who loved this perfume when I used to wear it a few years ago. But, I can't stand perfume anymore.. To add....I am trying 2 of them now, one has a smaller wick, the other has a larger wick, and the larger wick is going out and it has some tall sides that are not melting down..
  5. Hi, I am trying to do some tealights, but am having problems keeping the wicks centered. I put two kabob sticks across a row of tealight cups, but then they got stuck to the wax and they also caused a mess. Does anyone make tealights and could give some advice on how to keep the wick centered without a big mess?
  6. I got a tiny measuring cup at linens and things for 99cents. I guess it's like a little shot glass. I got it a couple years ago for liquid measurements in cooking. It has been long gone now though, it survived a trip over seas and back, but couldn't survive the linoleum floor it fell on...so sad...
  7. Yeah, it was really too strong when I was pouring it. Since I've smelled it all day, I'm burning one now and can't tell if it's scenting the room or not :undecided but I think my wick is a little too small. But, I love the color I got with the dye. So pretty
  8. That looks nice! :smiley2: looks tastey too! I want hot chocolate now...
  9. I am making some votives now, well, waiting until I need to do the 2nd pour. I did 1lb of a soy/parafin blend and 1oz of Love Spell fo and I put in one little chip of dye and it made a pale purple color, very pretty. Just wanted to share! hmm...It's been around 3 hours, that's typically long enough to wait to re pour, right?
  10. I have ecosoya votive blend wax, and the wicks I got are HTP-31. When I ordered the stuff, I didn't know how much of a difference in wicks there are, and it said that type of wick is good for tealights and votives. Then later on I was reading more and more...and read that soy waxes need larger wicks. So, my question is, do I need to buy a different wick? Can anyone recomend a wick for the ecosoya votive blend wax? I feel kida dumb....
  11. Ooohh...I like the snowman, he's so cute!
  12. Ok, I just ordered a scale. I want to be making my candles the right way from the begining, as I am hoping to one day sell if I get good at it. And I'll be giving some of these away to friends and family if they turn out nicely.
  13. I see, well, I guess I'll wait till I get a scale then. Thanks!
  14. Hi, this is going to be my second time making candles either tomorrow or the next day, we'll see. I don't have a scale, and I want to do small batches. Would it be ok to use dry measuring cups to measure out the wax? 2 Cups is 16oz, right?
  15. I like it! Very interesting...Maybe I'll try to make one for the bathroom some day.
  16. Hi, new member here. I am very new to candle making. I have been searching around for a hobby that I would enjoy and be able to use. So I thought I'd give candle making a try. So I picked up a kit at a craft store. I didn't like the quality and can't even smell the scent, but I did enjoy making them. After reading a bit about soy candles, I decided to get a soy votive blend wax, and a couple scents and colors. (It was hard to limit, but don't want to over do it and spend to much $) And wicks too....those were a bit confusing to me... I am now waiting for it all to arrive...I hope they candles will turn out nicely, and I hope it will keep me busy for a while! Hubby hopes so too. I'm really enjoying the info here, it's a great website
