  1. Love the pink and blue, really vibrant!
  2. I've used V-1 and C-3 for chunk candles, mostly votives, and have never experienced a leeching problem. I use 3 parts V-1 to 1 part C-3 and both liquid dyes from Peaks and solid block dyes from Yaleys. I don't pour the overpour particularly cool either. Wonder if it is the dye or fragrance you are using?
  3. Why not add some container wax to the pillar wax and try making votives out of it........
  4. I use HTP 73 wicks in my V-1 and C-3 votive candles for all fragrances with liquid dye.
  5. I got some straight raisin FO as part of sample set from General Wax (genwax.com) but haven't tried it yet. Not real strong scent OOB.
  6. I also had cracking today with my V-1 (12 ozs.) & C-3 (4 ozs.) votives. I put a plastic salad bowl over them after I poured and they came out perfect... no cracks. I agree with your cooling theory!
  7. I use Peaks Cinammon Buns FO in CB Advanced and V-1 & C-3 and love it. It has a great cold throw!
  8. I have a friend at work who loves grapefruit scent and I'd love to suprise her with some candles. Anyone tried a grapefruit FO in soy wax that they would recommend? Thanks!
  9. Looks great! I too was inspired by Bill's photos and tried similar votives with 70% V-1 and 30% C-3. Ended up having to wick up to HTP 83. What kind of wicks did you end up using for the Ecosoya PB?
  10. I am myself a novice with Ecosoya, but have been experimenting with HTP wicking. The CB Advanced in an 8 oz. jelly with 1 oz/1 lb of FO and liquid dye can sustain an HTP 1212 wick. However, in some cases that has been too hot, thus I'm awaiting more sizes and plan to try an HTP 126. The PB votives seem to need a particularly large wick and I'm also awaiting the HTP 73 to try in these to avoid hangup. HTH.
  11. Do many people assemble their own wicks rather than buy the pretabbed wicks to reduce their costs? How difficult is it? Any link to a how-to would be appreciated, as well as your thoughts on the subject. Thanks!
  12. I bought a high temp glue gun for $1 and a number of bags with 25 glue sticks for $1/ bag at DollarTree and haven't had a wick detach itself since.
  13. I purchased Ecosoya CB Advanced from yaley.com and it came with the "Microwavable soy wax cover" with a note stating that cover was for the Ecosoya CB135 that they also sell, and listing the Advanced's melt point. I believe they also sell another soy wax but do not list the brand. You might try calling them as the customer service folks were very helpful when I called with questions. Yaley's in northern California and is one of two candle wax suppliers in the state that I'm aware of, the other being genwax.com in Hollywood that carries the Cargill wax line.
  14. You are so right, Candleman. I looked up the fine print on this batch of wicks and they are flat braid. Another lesson learned. Thanks, Hope, for the recommended melt pool depth. I'm a real novice with wicking and appreciate your help!:smiley2: Happy Holidays!
  15. Thanks for the feedback, Hope. Do you know what a good rule of thumb is for an acceptable melt pool depth?
  16. Has anyone encountered the situation where the wick flops to one side (up against the side of an 8 oz. jelly jar) when the wax melts and creates a 1 in. deep melt pool? It's a large Yaley "bleached" wick (cotton core) in new Clarus Stasis 3022 wax I'm testing. :undecided This is the second burn, and didn't have problem with the first burn (1 in.). Thinking it might be the wax as I've used this wick with the Ecosoya CB and never had this "limp wick" problem with that wax. Any thoughts, thanks?
  17. I tested Peak's gingerbread in Ecosoya CB Advanced with HTP 1212 wick without much success. No cold throw and little hot throw. I'd recommend Genwax's Hansel and Gretal gingerbread which had both hot and cold throws. HTH
