  1. I'm noticing that many of CS's oils you cannot judge OOB and sometimes even until after a day or two cure in wax. Pumpkin Souffle's burnt note changes into the butteriest, creamiest note. LoveSpell's nasty crayon and koolaid notes really diminish and change into something less repulsive (I don't like it much to start with lol). Blackberry Marmalade has a funny off note not unlike a tobacco UNTIL it's in wax and cured.

All the funky scents mellow into what layers into awesome, complex fragrances that THROW. BUT they can start out smelling downright ODD!

Still hoping for a musk check on White Tea and Berries.... :lipsrseal

  2. Once, ONCE have I EVER left a candle burning and left, and that was an accident. I realized it after I'd been gone a while and even though I was only gone for 2 1/2 hours, I thought about it the ENTIRE time.... I was so glad for three things. It was a tin, it was almost full, and it was on my stove in the center of the kitchen burning with NOTHING around it.

Still, I thought about it CONSTANTLY. NEVER again. I was lucky. Don't be stupid and do it on purpose!!!

  3. I googled your "room essence melt" and the word "freebie" and came across 5 different freebie boards that it was posted on... several now have updates that it's been changed to a "random drawing" for every 20 accts... with a roll eyes next to it... Looks like it was posted on most of them last weekend, January 26th.

I hope you get business out of it, I really really do!

  4. I would never do a freebie on a website with no strings attached. I would do shipping only or free with your order of $X or more OR the price would be credited to their next order.

Web crawlers pick up the freebie stuff and it gets posted to a freebie board, which posts to another freebie board and WHAM. Not fun, and most of these people are serious moochers, but not serious buyers.

  5. I tried CS Love Spell and didn't care for it either. It smells like crayons and grape koolaid to me. Yuck!

LOL!!! It DOES kinda smell like this! But I compared it to the real thing, and CS's is very accurate, despite the crayon smell!

If you MUST pour it and you cannot do CS's, NG has a sweeter, candier smelling version that is different but still satisfies my LoveSpell fans...

don't get them started on Pink Sugar though!!!

  6. IF the seal holds and IF there is no puncture from the crimping in the neck of the wicktab. Those are the only circumstances where I have had a wicktab failure with the high-temp silicon.

That's why I slather on the silicone! Really get enough on there to seal all the way around and squish up in there! So far so good!

  7. Thanks ya'll... I've now tested this combo with This Old House, dyed very light brown (1 drop pp, FO 1 oz pp) and then decided to go for it with the mother of all tests, the Spiced Mulberry with a CRAZY amount of dye.

The wick MUST be trimmed down to 1/4 inch. Almost nothing. Just a little nub of a wick left and that's all. WITH that trim, there is little to no sooting. If you left more wick than that it would definitely soot.

I'm happy enough that I will continue to test combos to possibly carry in my line. I currently use a 20 oz Tureen double wicked with 2 CD 12's for most scents and would love to replace it with a more mainstream container that is single wicked.

  8. I am test burning the Brandied Pear right now.. LOVIN IT!!!

Smooth and creamy with a wonderful burst of fresh pear.

I've asked this before, but I don't think I ever saw an answer- does that smell too "brandied"? I don't do well with any alcoholic scents here, but pear would do great. Put it this way- I have a bottle of Merlot Wine that is almost full....

How much is the brandy note and is it screamingly obvious?!?

    Thanks!

  9. While all that is so true, a GREAT supplier to start with for soy is CandleScience. They have a soy "rating" system and reviews on their site. I have yet to be disappointed- everyone who has smelled them has loved them. I used them almost exclusively for my Christmas line this year (except for a few from TCS) and did very well.

Hopefully they'll be having a $1 sample sale sometime in the next little while (after Valentine's day maybe?)... I can't wait!

  10. Another thing I haven't heard mentioned is how you secured your wick and what size wicktab you used. If you secure it with a sealant that is heat resistant (RTF sealant or another high temp silicone), it will keep the wax from funnelling up the bottom of the wick at the end of the burn and will always extinguish ITSELF with plenty left in the bottom of the container. Lots of glass containers have concave bottoms and will put themselves out sooner, but tins are flat and will burn to the last drop. IF those drops are contaminated with wick "droppings", they will burn in the bottom of the tin.

Wick stickers and high temp glue guns don't seal the bottom of the wick enough to always put out the flame before the wax is completely gone. Don't forget to test this too!
