  1. I just poured and am testing:

    Iris and Fern (BnL)

    Sage Sweetgrass and Cedar (BnL)

    Sweet Pea (BnL)

    Honey Coco Mango (BCN)

    Spiced Tea (BCN)

    Wildberry Zinger Tea (BCN)

I like all of them. Iris and Fern has a hint of a perfumey smell to it, but only if you really stick your nose in it. SS&C is great- oob is very sagey, but the sweetgrass comes through in wax, especially hot. Sweet Pea was a gift, but smelled pretty good (I'm not a sweet pea person lol). Honey Coco Mango smells like juicy mangoes and tropical fruits and makes me wanna grab a spoon!!! Spiced Tea was good, almost an orange clove without as much orange. But after a while, the HT seems a little fuely to me. I LOVE WZT, but it's much more Wildberry than tea. I don't care though, it's got a great raspberry note in it. Some hate it, I love it!

I also got Dreamsicle, Sea Breeze, and Tutti Fruiti sniffy samples (1/2 oz). Dreamsicle smells great, my DH is begging for me to make it! Sea Breeze is a sweet ocean smell, very clean. Tutti Fruiti I couldn't put my finger on OOB, but I got a little on my finger and it DOES smell just like juicy fruit gum!

So if you're placing your first order, remember than you can pick up to 3 samples with your order for free! Just put which ones you want in the comment line, or they will pick them for you (I didn't and I wish I had!)

  2. The ebay listing says:

Our wax is Premium 100% pure natural one pour flaked soy C-3 wax0.GIF with a melt point of 125° F - 130° F designed for container candles. It is the Safest soy wax available with a 600° F flash point. It has excellent burn characteristics and the best scent throw. It comes in flake form which makes it easy to measure and dispense.

I've used C-3, and it *is* a "real" wax. I got lots of frosting though and very bumpy tops with it. How hot are you pouring? I'm remembering pouring at 160-170 with this one...

And she doesn't state what type of wicks, but I'm willing to bet you could email and ask. Most likely either CD or HTP as they work better than LX with that wax.

  3. Hi Kristi,

Your post makes a lot of sense. Where you stated that you worry more about FO fumes.....I agree with you on this. This does concern me.

My kids were fed soy formula. They are 10 and 8 now and so far so good. And here I was thinking I was doing them a favor. :undecided

Some say that the reason that Asian populations do NOT have high rates of breast cancers and other hormone affected cancers is because they ingest their higher rates of soy from early childhood and infancy. Somehow, that causes them to not be affected the same as we would when we suddenly start eating large amounts of plant estrogens. Go figure. In that case though, soy baby formula would be fine. My worries with soy formulas are based on increased estrogen leading to premature sexual development in girls and wondering what affect all that estrogen has on boys.... wondering how long this topic stays in the wax forums lol...

And as far as ventilation goes- look into having a range hood exhaust fan mounted in the shop- you can usually find working ones cheap or free and it really does work. I have an extra full kitchen in my basement that I cook my candles in, and it has a range hood that does and awesome job.

part midwife, part mommy, part chandler ... all crazy:grin2:

  4. The increased risk of cancer is due to the amount of plant estrogen in soy. If you replace a big part of your diet with ingested soy (tofu burgers, soy protein shakes, etc), you raise the levels of estrogen in your body. Increased estrogen over time leads to development of certain cancers. Normal intake of naturally occuring soy is fine. There are people who are chosing not to use soy based formulas for infants based on suppositions that it could cause high levels of estrogen in babies. The hormone replacement therapy for women that was discouraged due to a possible cancer link was determined to be bad because of the estrogen therapy aspect. While it may not CAUSE cancer, it can cause estrogen linked cancers to grow faster.

None of this applies to inhaling soy wax fumes. Only to ingested soy enhanced or soy based products.

IMO, I'd be more concerned about fragrance oil components- and I'm a FO junkie.

  5. southernscents,

The thing is we ALL learn things on here everyday- I think it's great you've decided to slow down and work on everything methodically, thinking it all through. You'll have that much more staying power. Things that start fast tend to finish pretty fast too.

Don't feel like you have to run away for a year and come back with all your ducks in a row. Feel free to post and ask honest questions as someone building a developing product- just not someone selling a developing product! I can't tell you how many questions I HAVEN'T asked because I used that neat "search" feature up near the top of the screen. Use it, it's great!

Looking forward to seeing you gain wisdom and experience, not just as a chandler, but as a FUTURE business person!

  6. OK, my bad- I had to run and smell tutti fruiti again and it does indeed smell like juicy fruit. I hadn't looked at that one before, so didn't realize that was the smell when I was sniffing. Once I realized it was a juicy fruit smell my brain did turn it into juicy fruit lol...

  7. Wildberry is ALL fruit, no soapy smell. So it depends on what you're looking for. If you'd do a black cherry in lotion, you would do a Wildberry Zinger in lotion. There's no musk, no amber lol. I can barely smell the tea. It's great though.

Tutti Fruiti (to my nose) is sweeter/cheaper gum smelling than juicy fruit. BUT it's still OOB!! So that could change. Watch, I'll hold onto it forever and THEN test it and love it lol.

  8. I have 4200 sq ft on two floors with an open great room and balcony- candle was burning on the kitchen counter and I could smell it everywhere- even upstairs on the balcony (around the corner and up a floor). I also could smell it outside (but it's a log cabin and a little drafty lol). This would be why I wanted to make this container work lol... BTW, it's BCN's Wildberry Zinger Tea.

This was with a 24 hour cure time. I'm thinking it should get even better. I'm still in awe of how easily this burns...

Which wicks are you using? I've found that CD's have a great throw with this wax.

  9. I wonder if it has to do with the privacy settings on the computer? If your settings are set to medium security, it may not be able to leave that cookie that tells what zip code you're from (and it may not be able to leave things in your card when shopping). Try clicking on "Tools" in the browser window, then "Internet Options", then the "Privacy" tab, then change the setting to "Low" and apply changes.

Might help, dunno. I ordered from them with no problems.

  10. I got some 1 oz FO samples and was looking for containers to stick them into and decided to use my 20 oz tureens (which I could NOT wick well with C-3 and HTPs). I'm using GB 464 and CDs now and I got it RIGHT and am LOVING them now! I used 2 CD 12's and I'm getting FMP at 4 hours, no hangup on the sides and it's not burning too deep around the wick. YIPPEE!!! I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with those containers til now! 2 burns down, but it's looking GREAT!
