  1. "Business" means there will be a return on your investment (in this case time)...."Principal" is an emotional response....For that amount I would just let it go....You may recover the dollars but you can get back the time you expended to get it....Put that time to a better use and it will have a long term return......Use that time to build your business...RCS...
  2. I hope there is "value" in what you are trying to do.....Rather than doing it for "principal".....How much money are you talking about?....Is the time you are going spend on it worth it or would it be better spent growing your business (testing, marketing, etc.)?.... And if you "win" will you actually see your money?...Does your vendor have assets you can attach?..... If you are doing this for "business" reasons please proceed.....If you are doing this for "emotional" reasons it is time to move on.... ....RCS...
  3. Looks a lot like the leafs on the maple tree outside my house.....I like it.....Maybe you could call it "Fall Maple".....RCS....
  4. She is "bigger", "meaner" and much "better looking" than me so I pretty much go with the flow.....lol..... As far as brokering yourself.....You can do that if you are close to the US or a "bond" warehouse....If you can go across to the US you just pick up your parcels at a UPS depot and present it at Canada Customs when you come back....Make sure you have complete invoices or they will not clear you package..... As an alternative you can see if you can find a logsitics company....They will recieve your packages in the US, transport them to Canada and store them in a "bond" warehouse.....You then take the paperwork to Canada Customs and clear the package....Once it has been cleared you go to the "bond" warehouse and pickup the package....They charge you some for the transport from Canada to the US but it should be far less than what UPS would charge... FYI there is a logistics company in London ON that should be able to help you out....Just not sure of their name so you might need to phone around.....If I can figure out who they are, I will let you know.... ....RCS...
  5. Janette.....I have the good fortune of being located just minutes from the US so I get all my US parcels over there and clear them into Canada myself.....For those that do not know, if the shipper has not made arrangements for brokerage, UPS charges C$35.00 or more in fees to collect taxes and duties on trans border shipments....And sometimes the taxes and duties are only a few dollars....RCS....
  6. I have never been asked for a business licence to get insurance so at least in this area it does not seem to be the norm....RCS...
  7. Here I have to put on my former insurance adjuster cap..... Anyone can be sued for almost any reason (Janette even in Canada).....In some jurisdictions there may be some sort of procedure the suer has to go through before they can proceed....Almost like a preliminary hearing or grand jury....This does not decide the case it just narrows them down..... In Canada the standard for a suer winning is a case is sometimes higher and in most cases the sued has to be negligent....But even if you win it can cost you a small fortune....Lawyers do not work for free and in the complex court system it is awful hard to defend yourself..... By all means it is useful to get a waiver (if someone is silly enough to sign it)....But most often a waiver is just printed on the back of your invoice....For commerical accounts some will sign a "Hold Harmless" agreement which does not prevent you from getting sued, however, it does make your commercial client stand in your place for defence and claim costs...Sometimes a "hold harmless" clause can be in your terms of business and sometimes it is helpful in getting rid of claim.... My advice to everyone is no matter how "perfect" you think you are get liability insurance.....The only exception to this suggestion is if you have so much money that spending some of it will not matter.... Sorrry this was so long but insurance is not that simple.... ....RCS.... PS....I am on the board of a liability insurance company that is owned by municipalities in BC (www.miabc.org) and I have seen some pretty silly claims that have cost us 10s of thousands of dollars to win....
  8. Thank you...... I ordered a starter kit from Bitter Creek Candle Supply and one way or another we will make at least 10 pounds of candles....Hopefully they will at least be good enough for gifts if not good enough to sell..... Not being one to waste my money I have been to every supplier site I can find and have been reading anything I can....Time will tell whether or not it works.....Also, as a former insurance adjuster I am well aware of doing things right.... I hope to contribute in what ever way I can...I have a marketing based business and will welcome the opportunity to contribute to discussions on that subject....And threads involving insurance as well (although it is a little different in Canada).... ...RCS...

  11. I recently signed on this board and I am going to read until my eyes fall out....Lots of great information and I thank those that have contributed for that.....My wife is looking for some sort of home based business and because I like to know enough to be dangerous I am doing most of the research..... I also like to play with Adobe Illustrator so I have done up a sample label....Months in advance because it looks like there is quite a learning curve.... I do not have "upload" ability at this point so it can be found here.... www.vindles.com/Label.jpg ...RCS...
