  1. But what do you do with HURRICANES? (I am talking about the ones like <--- on the instruction page) They are empty right? I made one and put a tealight in it. However, the tealight melted into the bottom and I couldn't get it out? LOL so please...enlighten me!!
  2. I use a crock pot for heating my beeswax. High until melted, then use the "keep warm" setting. Been doing this for years.
  3. I have found wicking BW to be a challenge for sure! I bought some candles from a huge seller on ebay of them...TERRIBLE. The wick was way to small and the burn terrible. I love to burn beeswax, so testing is great for me! LOL. I tend to wick large then work down as necessary.
  4. The pre wicked tabs you can get at craft stores are not thick enough for beeswax.
  5. When I got my first chunk of beeswax, I thought..."Melt, pour, stick some string in it and sell it...anyone can do it!" I really thought that. Seven months later, I am almost happy enough to sell my candles. I am SO GLAD I found this forum. I would have had NO CLUE about testing. I use only beeswax, I add no scents or dyes, and I still have painstakingly tested every container, every wick...every shape and size. This type of thing makes my stomach do flops. Wait till they are sued because someone's crappy candle burned thier house down. I want to make candles people want, not candles people want ONCE.
  6. I am thinking of candlewic...they are so pricey...with shipping to Canada, etc.
  7. OK, I have been on a never ending search for taper moulds. tried tin--I use only beeswax and in the mould the wax remains:embarasse Have plastic--has made some great candles, but is starting to warp. So, dh is suggesting making a two parter from wood. Can this be done?
  8. I bought a used mold, I seal it as best as possible but there is some shaving required. I use straight beeswax, so I do not want to overdip in parafin, but I will experiment.... thank you all so much...I have these gorgeous tapers I will gift for Christmas, that I can be proud of!
  9. Can anyone help? I have made some gorgeous tapers, what is the best way to shave em down, and minimize the seam? TIA!
  10. Arg...I knew there could be drawbacks! LOL I will have to check...I threw out the box!
  11. OK...I have been having the damnedest time finding reasonably priced shrink wrap. I got so tired of looking, then seeing shipping charges Living in Canada sure blows sometimes!!! Anyway, my solution was this: I was shopping in good ol Wallyworld, and saw one of those "Window Insulation kits" It was $12.97. Came with about 40 feet of shrink wrap, some tape, and some outlet insulators. I used the shrink wrap and my handy dandy heat gun, and wrapped everything....I didn't even have to buy tape, since it came with an enormous roll of 2 sided tape. I did have to cut the sheets by hand, so, it did take longer. what I did was made a "template" of the size I need for each product, then folded the shrink wrap, and cut about 40 out at a time. Worked fine. In all, I think i saved at least $50. Once I got my rhythm down, it only took about 1 minute per item to tape and shrink. I have wrapped 40 soaps, 30 lip balms (tubes and tubs), and about 20 votives. I have over half the roll left, and that includes all my...flub ups when I was "learning"! I used the outlet insulators on my outlets.
  12. It won't load for me, either.
  13. YUP! Wow, I just came to peak at this thread....I had a programmer integrate my shipping module into my shopping cart (Canada Post...I was lost!) It is nice that your boyfriend is helping you, OP.
  14. Unfortunately, that dipping vat from Peaks costs $12 to ship to me. And they ship UPS, who I hate. terrible service and insane brokerage fees. Hmmm. maybe there is one on ebay.... Great idea! I think a coffee can would be too short...need something tall.
  15. Thank you! I would love to hand dip, I just can't find one of those dipping cans (I need something taller than what I have)
  16. Where in ON are you? I will send my family to buy your stuff!
  17. Or something!! ARGGGGGGG....Why doesn't anyone sell that mold release spray for a decent price around here? $13 plus shipping!!!
  18. Your shopping cart should have modules built in for shipping. They are easy to configure.
  19. I pulled out this mold tonight...and wouldn't cha know...the candle is still in there? do you think 3 months is long enough to cool?
  20. The gentleman who sells die cast cars and other racing paraphenalia at the market i was at last year was always surrounded by people! Same with the baker. (bread and such) Hmmm. what about a local artist that does stained glass or something? that is a little different.
  21. I do my hosting at: www.turtlehosting.com (.99/month) I bought my domain name at www.ifastdomains.com (I also have one of my sites hosted with www.ifasthosting.com, however, I found Turtle hosting and they are cheaper.) Sorry I didn't include that :embarasse If you need HTML help, let me know!
  22. I have a site where the webhosting costs me .99 month. IMO, and this is JUST MY OPINION, a free site for a business does not look professional. sometimes the ads that come up are for competition!! As for the PP thing, since you have a business account, you could call PP and talk to a rep. I know alot of people have bad experiences with them, but 99% of the time I get a helpful rep who can answer my questions! I am not sure why adjusting the shipping would affect one site, tho?
