I had a guy once tell me, "Anyone can make a candle! Just put a wick in a jar and melt some wax!"
Ummm...thanks for just insulting me by implying a CHIMP could do what I do.
LOL
This was me. Then I did my research. It took me 3 months to even buy a kit to begin with. I had to do a lot of reading. The more I read, the more I wanted to read. Then I got my first kit. Made 3 container candles with that. I was hooked.
The first ones were really easy and turned out good. I learned fast that I have to be patient when making candles. Otherwise they don't always turn out. I have melted and melted candles down. I usually use these myself or give them to my step daughter.

Yes I have. I'm burning one right now. Works great.

Thank you Lindsay. It is one of the convience stores that my boss owns. Not the one I manage though. My store isn't a good gift selling store. The one that I am putting stuff in sells a lot of gift items.
The only requested scent was Huckleberry, (which I have). Huckleberry items sell like crazy around here.

I have my first w/sale account.
For those of you that have w/sale accounts, do you leave a stack of brochures with them?

Those are pretty. I'm going to try that one of these days.

Those are beautiful
I see myself buying octagon molds. All I have is round ones.

I'm hoping to make another gel candle. I want to take some of the wax that is already colored and scented and roll it in glitter. Then make a chunk flower pot votive.
I need to clean house really bad. We'll see what gets done. Only have the rest of tonight and tomorrow. Then back to the job that pays for my addiction.

I totally agree. They are very helpful people. They get the orders out quickly. Their prices are very good also.

Thank you. Gel wax was a little harder to work with than I thought it would be. With a little practice though, I'll like it. I see so many pretty candles in gel.

Hi Donna;
Welcome to the board and candle making.
I started out doing melt and pour soap, then lotions and creams. I worked with my girl friend on them.
Then I decided I wanted to make candles. I was one them people that thought...how hard can they be....Boy, did I find out.
It's fun though. Each one is different. It's an addicting hobby. I have sold a few. Have done one craft show locally and one open house type thing.
The craft show was fun and rewarding. It was last November. The open house sucked. It was just a couple weeks ago.
Keep your chin up, do your research, and practice. Don't be afraid to ask questions....before long you will be answering questions yourself.
I belong to several boards...this is the best.

I haven't bought lotion/cream in a year. I've been making my own. I buy Shea lotion base, then mix for my own use.
I make my own body butter out of Shea Butter and oil.
I could never find one on the market that worked like I wanted it too.

I have wedding candles to get done this weekend. They will be done with palm container wax, ivory color and no fragrance oil.
I just received my gel candle kit. First time working with gel wax. I've been doing a lot of reading on it. Kinda scared, but excited to start something new.

I put Jojoba oil (golden) in my creams and lotions. Shea butter and jojoba oil together.
I have also used Aloe oil.

Chocolate Delight or Mint Chocolate from www.flickersfragrances.com
I have used both of these in soy with excellent results.

I like your website. Love how big the pictures get in larger view.

I started out using EcoSoya CB. Then went to the EcoSoya CB Adv. I learned to add fragrance oil at 160 to 170. Stir really good. Then let cool to 135 before pouring. I tend to pour a little too fast sometimes. They come out better when I pour slower.

They took a big headache away from me. I use them on my 3" pillars also. Never could get the wick hole centered using wick pins.
-
I round the end of the wick out of the wick hole on itself..like making an "@".... if you leave the wick straight running toward the side of the modl it will make a way for wax to go even with tape on it...
That sounds like a good idea. I've been leaving mine straight, putting two pieces of electrical tape over it, the mold sealer over that.
The last two palm pillars I made never leaked.

Here are a couple places to get you started. Welcome back to candle making.
-
I use Let it Shine and Flickers Fragrances the most.

www.letitshineusa.com carries "smoke & odor elminator" fragrance oil.
