  1. That's pretty much what I was thinking. Thank you
  2. I live in Warroad about as far north as you can get in MN. I haven't really decided which jars I want. Right now I'm using several different styles and sizes which results in a whole lot of testing. I want to narrow it down to one style and a couple sizes. Just don't know which ones yet.
  3. I have read many times that you should never double wick gel but what about the heart dish that everyone is using for vanlentines? Wouldn't that be ok with two or three wicks? Obviously I would have to make and test but I wanted some opinions from the pros.
  4. I feel like I have been reasearching container suppliers forever. I was wondering if anyone wanted to share their favorite container, jar suppliers. The one I use right now is the candle makers store mostly because their shipping is the lowest that I've found so far for me in northern MN. Thanks
  5. The reason I ask is because I have the same probelm that it looks like everyone else has. Know one wants to burn them. Most people that have bought them have said there so pretty I can't burn it. I've even had some that bought the forever candle and won't burn it. So I was wondering if I made some plain ones if people would acctually burn them.
  6. For the ones that make and sell container candles how many different jars and sizes do you use and which sizes sell the best? I am having a problem deciding on jars and sizes. Can't make up my mind. Thanx.
  7. Does anyone make and sell just plain colored gel with no embeds? If so how well do they sell?
  8. .55 seems pretty high for packaging on one votive. What are you using? Maybe you should reasearch different supppliers.
  9. Some of these post do sound a little harsh but true. Don't let this thread scare you off this is a fantastic place to get advice and info. I wish I would have found it when I first started. As for your scents unless you have already ordered them and know what they smell like just order samples. Just because you like the discription of them does not mean you will like the smell believe me I have made that big mistake. You should also order a variety. If your ordering five order from five different catagories not just one. When you do decide your ready to sell it will give your customers more of a choice and it will give you a better idea of what sells better in your area. I also suggest that if you feel you are ready to sell befor you do pass them out to friends and family first get their opinions and exprience with your candle befor you sell to strangers. Their going to tell you if there is something wrong with it a customer just wont come back unless their house burns down. I know it probly sound like a big waste of money to just give a large amount of your candles away but it is a huge part of your testing process. Good luck with whatevery you decide to do.
  10. You should do as much research as possible first and then for your first gel candles I suggest you buy a kit to see if you like doing them. To buy everything separate is very expensive. Then if you don't like doing them you have alot of supplies wasted. They have some pretty good kits from Bitter Creek with instructions. You should also read all of the instructions on this site and I would also recomend reading all of the threads posted for gel. Good luck.
  11. Has anyone made both the gelatin and water crystal smellys if so which did they like better? Scent throw, how long did they last, and so on? I'd like to start making one of them don't know which one.
  12. Hey Dove thanks for the offer. Pretty much any size. I make my gels in 4,6,and 9 oz. I want to know if the warmer gets the jar hot enough to melt the wax but I think Mplsvixen might have answered that.
  13. Has anyone tryed their gels on a warmer? I think I read somewere that they don't get hot enough for gel. I haven't tryed it because I don't have a warmer. Have had a few people ask about it. Suppose I should get one and try it but if any of you have I won't have to waste my money if it doesn't work.
  14. This thread is great. Have to agree with everyone on the lavender. I got a nasty headeach from this one. Wonder why.
  15. I talked to my accountant before I started selling and she said no as far as for filing taxes. I do know that for most or all craft shows you need one. They are very easy to get. Atleast in MN. Just go to IRS.com fill out the form and you get the number right away.
  16. I've never done a show but that sounded odd to me to. Thanks everyone for the advise. I juts was thinking it would be less hassle to price the candles with tax included maybe not.
  17. Why would you want a white gel? I'm very curious what your making with it.
  18. I'm doing my first craft show ever at the end of the month. I was wondering how you do your sales tax. Do you mark up the price to include tax and advertise that or just add it in when they check out?
  19. Hi. Wasn't sure were to post this. I only make gel candles and ended up with a bunch of fo's I can't use. Am considering smelly jellies. Was wondering where the best place to buy the water crystals from and the cheapest place to buy the jars and lids. Any help is appreciated. Thanx
  20. Thanks for the hug. To help you understand if the fo is polar it will cloud the gel or separate and is unsafe in the gel. Thats the short of it. I'm sure someone else can explain it better. Thanks again for the hug.
  21. :angry2:I took a chance and orderd form Wellington and they all smell good then I did the polarity test on them. I orderd fourteen bottles six were bad, four were good one way and not the other, four were good. I emailed them befor I ordered and asked them if there fo's were non-polar they said they were. I emailed them this morning and told them what happend and this is what they sent me. Our scents do contain different solvents for soap and candle making. Sometimes that method of testing does show clouding. In house testing is always required for our Gel Candle customers. What does that mean? Some I tested clouded as soon as I added the oil another one seperated right away. Anyway thanks for reading just need to vent to someone that understands.
  22. What kind of cloth? I was thinking a thick paper towel or wash rag but I was wondering if they would leave lint.
  23. First of all I want to thank everyone for the the help and tips I've gotten since starting this board. I really apprieciate it. Now I need to know how to clean the gel. I made some candles in a glass bowl with a votive. If anyones seen the footprints candle at gel candle shop it's something like that. How do I get the dust off of them? Thank You.
  24. Try the candlemakersstore.com they have alot of jars and their shipping isn't to bad.
  25. I was wondering where everyone gets their glass from. Has anyone orderd directly from Anchor Hocking or Libbey? How difficult is that?
