    I totally agree! You did an outstanding job. I made one really nice swirl......once. LOL You might want to put one up and save it, kinda like the first dollar made in a new business venture! I am having a hard time not coming back to stare at them. Truly gorgeous!

    Let me tell you that mold is a dream...

    they are so easy to get out...

    Someday I will have to get another one of them....

    Pre-Creamed shortning is mainly tallow and lard. I render my own tallow. I call our local butcher and he saves me the kidney fat and sells it to me for like .15 cents per pound ground up for me. Kidney fat is the best fat to render from beef. I can give you some if you drop by.

    I use the 76* setting, but I think the SAP value is exactly the same. FCO is different though. For the pre-creamed shorting, use the SAP value of tallow. Just put the amount of pre-creamed shortening in as "tallow" in that calculator. I think you will really like this recipe.:yay:

    Wal-Mart Soap Recipe

    All these oils can be purchases at most Super Wal-Mart stores. The numbers on this recipe are really good! This is a very nice bar of soap. You might want to take a slight water discount, say like a 30 to 31% solution and take a 5.5% lye discount. Here it is in percentages of total 100% oils;

    Coconut Oil............30%

    Olive Oil.................24%

    Crisco....................22%

    Canola................... 9%

    Safflower............... 9%

    Castor................... 6%

    This is a very decent recipe. It needs a good 4 to 6 week cure time to develop fully and harden more.

    Personally, I like to add a little Great Value Pre-Creamed shortening that contains tallow and lard, and a little lard to the recipe. This conditions a bit better and adds hardness to the bar too. I would take the Crisco down to 10% and add 7% tallow shortening and 8% lard and refigure online at the Sooz ( http://www.soapcalc.com/calc/soapcalcWP.asp ) calculator.

    Sure, a simple 4 oil recipe you can get from Wal_Mart is easy! I can PM you a decent recipe, or post it in a new thread if you want. Someone else may give you a "supermarket" recipe too, or check the archives. A simple 4 or 5 oil batch can be a really fantastic bar of soap, a "synergy" of oils makes all the difference.:) Thanks!

    Super WalMart carries Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Canola, Safflower, Lard, beef shortening, Crisco, even Castor Oil in the Pharmacy and Flax Seed. Except lye, where you buy Roebic Heavy Duty Crystals, 100% pure lye, you can make a great soap. No need to send off for oils when first starting, go to Wally World and Lowe's, and make yourself some soap!:yay:

    I third nominate Columbus Foods! Mike is great and shipping is super fast! I bought my first gallon last week. I ordered one day and got the shipment of 4 oils on the 3rd day after I turned in the order! The order arrived before my credit card was charged! Great looking BO too, gotta make soap this weekend with it! After over 2 years of making soap, just now trying BO is a shame!

    Many feel warming up your FO's or EO's by first mixing them with your oils once in the soap pot before adding your lye solution decreases the chance of acceleration. I do think this is true, but in my opinion, it also weakens the FO's or EO's a bit going through the onset of saponification at first combining oils/lye solution. You might have to add a bit more FO or EO doing it this way.

    Only the shavings from beveling them...they lather like crazy..and already feel great, no harshness...and smell wonderful...Berts Redwood Cedar smells great in this soap...I made these especially for my guys, because it is a outdoorsy scent, but I will have to say,,I will probably use them too...lol

    Question, is this "Berts" the supplier on E-Bay?
