  1. Since I am in logistics @ the day job I see this all the time This is common practice now since 911 and Nafta. All products coming and going across the border has to have a paper trail...ie export papers, commercial papers, certificate of analyis. Most times when something gets held up at the border it is due to paperwork not being order. Then there are times when a spot check is done on the product it self...ie tested to ensure that it is what it is suppose to be. Normally this is cleared up in a short amount of time and the product is on its merry way..So don't give up on the company.. All in the name of commerce and security. Rockin
  2. I would tactfully inform her that somehow she missed last year's requirement of the percentage of fee and that only those vendors that met that are being allowed back. She may be upset but hold your ground after all you operated in good faith and expected the same. JMO Good luck Rockin
  3. that is kinda how I feel too. Glad I am not the only one that saw this. I wonder how much this would hurt the show because as soon as the word gets out...crafters from all over the place will give it a bad name...and the attendance will suffer too due to people realizing that the selection is not there because the truly honest vendors will say screw it. 4. 3. Yes I agree that it should help us on the juried part but what really is dissapointing is that we DO have to submit pictures prior to even getting accepted and give them a complete list of what we will be vending. I plan on having the list ready when they do check and ever so watching with untrustful eyes.
  5. I agree. that is pretty bold on their part.
  6. Was finally able to get information on a craft show that we have done in the past and WOW!! Talk about changes. 1. They upped the registration fee. Not a problem. 2. They are now requiring that you be set up by 4 PM the day before the show. Will have to take a day off from the regular job to do this. 3. Once you are set up they will then have a juried process where your fellow competitors will get to decide if you have all hand crafted items. 4. If you do not have all hand crafted items then you are out...reagrdless and NO refund on your registration fee. The craft show claims that they have had problems in the past with dishonest vendors saying their product is handmade. OK I can understand that but to have your competitors decide if your stuff is hand/homemade????. That is pretty radical if you ask me. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen these types of rules or IS THIS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE?? Rockin
  7. Good one. :embarasse I can barely talk and chew bubblegum at the same time so I don't think I want to learn a new trick.
  8. I got to help the other night. Scented wouldn't let me lick the spoon. Here I thought it was just like making cookies.
  9. Now that is too funny. I do have a feather duster and it is quite colorful.
  10. Well the last show of the year finally happened. After 25 shows this year I am so looking forward to the inventory, paperwork and cleaning house. Not!!! Vacation anyone?
  11. Well I got to smell this one today. OMG. Whew!!!!!! Ain't gonna tell ya what I told scented. Yeah baby...this one is a winner.
  12. Awesome babe. That is no fair you having all the fun to yourself. Can't wait to help make a batch.
  13. Wow!!!! Can't wait to start selling it.
  14. OK I got to comment on this babe. Yes u do hate this with a passion but I love it cause it helps me get that imaginary line broken down. We had a guy a couple of months ago stop in our booth and asked if we had leather. We told him that we had sold our last leather candle the previous weekend. He said that was too bad cause he would have bought everything that we had in the scent. Well we said that we would have it available at the next local show we were doing. Lo and behold we make 9 pillars and he shows up. If I remember right he bought 6 of em. The funny part of the whole thing was when he said that he used the candles to drive away chicks that he didn't like. His words not mine. Oh well. If I remember right I think he was still single. OK now the question for you all. When you see potential customers dressed in biker clothes or something to that effect. What would be the first scent come to your mind? Rockin
  15. Scented is right on the Mia Bella. Don't let them send a little child and spy like they did on me last year. Good luck
  16. Had to work the normal "day" job for a few hrs yesterday. Since scented didn't have to work she was able to do the show. We weren't to sure how the attendance would be due to the 9 inches of snow that arrived thursday. So nice to see the snow fall but not so nice when it melts and makes mush on the roads. Some of the vendors that had signed up to do the show canceled out because of the snowall. Anyway was able to help her set up and then had to leave. When I got back 4 hrs later I saw very few vehicles in the parking area and thought "oh great" nobody showed up. Went inside and I asked scented did we have any traffic at all? Looking me straight in the eye she said "Nope". with a smile on her face. I thought "oh no". This was really the first time that she got to do a show without me and I was about to give her a hug and say "I am so sorry". I should have known. The joke was on me. She had a great day. Traffic came in early to visit with Santa Claus and our booth was next to the line of folks waiting to see Santa. Santa brought em in and apparently the other vendors had good fortune as well. Who say's "Santa doesn't exist" LOL Kudos to scented and all the other vendors that had good fortune over the weekend. Thanks to santa too. Rockin
  17. We are getting close to the season end as well. Just completed a 3 day show over the weekend and had a nice successful time. The show organizer repeatedly apologized to me. It seems the booth on the other side of the aisle showed up with candles for their entire booth when they had put down on their entry knitted stuff or something to that effect. I do know that when we were tearing down on the last day she apparently had a very stern visit with them about that issue. Wrote the check for next year as she was apologizing again. Wherever we go it is all good I told her. Wasn't gonna let it bother me and it didn't. After I had packed up after the show was over I went to her and she said are you hear to complain too? I said NO I was here to thank-her for giving us the opportunity and that we had a great time. She was relieved to have some one thank-her. Had a candle groupie bunch from a previous show find our website and came to the booth on the 2nd day with more friends. I love that. :highfive: They did buy and boy did they. It must have been 15 women caused it sure seemed that way. It was fast and furious for probably 30 minutes. It was very nice when they said that they had come to the show because they had found our website and saw our show schedule. It does work. Yippie Finally the weekend ended with a bang when friends of mine said "Hey we want to see your candles" So after packing up on the show I went to their house and did a candle party. That was a first. 2 couples bought over $150 worth of product and said the next time that I am in town to let them know as they will have another "candle party" and would invite more friends. Here is the kicker. They also buy candles from the competitor that just happen to be the product that was placed in the booth across from me at the 3 day show. So all in all it was a nice weekend. My basketball team even beat the #1 college team in America too. Rockin
  18. I will tell you what gets me excited. Everytime I go to the bank and make that deposit. Whether it is $5 or more than that it doesn't matter to me. We all would like to have those monster days of making hugh profits but a whole lot of little days that add up is just as exciting. Rockin
  19. Scented and I were for the most part local this weekend. Yesterday was much busier that today but that is pretty much expected on a Sat/Sun show. If memory served me right there was 8 or 9 candle booths.
  20. We add the tax at the end of the each sale. With all the different shows having their own different tax rate it is much easier to do it that way for us.
  21. OK folks. I took a picture of the chef bear with my fancy dancy picture phone. If Scented can figure out how to post it since I sent it her you will be able to see. Lots of candle booths. The booth behind us wasn't doing so well. We talked a couple of times during the afternoon and she sounded very discouraged. Her booth was pretty fancy and looked professional but that doesn't always mean that product will sale. Sometimes it is the attitude being displayed. Rockin
  22. Wooden Risers eh? Do you have pictures? I have never been to New Jersey. We may have to work out a deal. Thanks for all the compliments. I am just half of the team. The other half makes some of the most beautiful candles you will ever see. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I hear that at each show we do. I just tell em the other half is the creative one and I just do the little stuff. If you want to see a picture of our booth. Search for "Neewollah", click on the arts & crafts pictures and look for the picture that has "The Scented Flame". I will be in Phoenix in January, probably Albuquerue NM in late Feb and for sure Annapolis Maryland in June of next year. Rockin
  23. I love our 4 step risers. Since we us them on 20 inch wide tables it is kinda tight trying to get 5 rows. With a 24 by 48 table it is no problem. I just got their catalog in the mail today and lots of cool stuff. Rockin:yay:
  24. Well, well, Well. I got up this morning to go to work and Lo and behold the local newpaper that comes out every Wednesday was in the driveway. Every once in a while they put a newspaper in EVERY DRIVEWAY in town. It is there way of increasing circulation. Well today was that day. Normally I go online to read it but this morning I thumb thru the sections and what did I find. A 2nd printing of the craft article that ran in the neighboring town at last month's craft show there. Since the local newpaper and neighboring newspaper are printed at the same place they just took the same article and printed it in this weeks newpaper. I got excited again. Over 2.000 homes in town and immediate area of apprx 10,000 people. With our local craft show coming up next weekend it was very timely. I will have to find a way to scan the article so you can read it as they put it in the mid-section of the newspaper and thus not on-line. Can't beat free publicity. Rockin
  25. Careful what you wish for there . Scented and I were mighty sore and slow today after yesterday's show. We have shows lined up every weekend between now and 1st of Dec. Rockin
