  1. Thanks everyone for your help and welcomes!
  2. Hey everyone! Quick question... I tried making a chunky candle today. I used straight parafin wax overpour (no dyes), and made my chunks with the same wax but dyed one set blue and one red. Well it says to heat the wax to 190 to make the chunks bleed a little. What happened for me was once I began pouring, the dye from the red chunks bled so much that now my candle is not clear, but pinkish. I'm not sure yet how the rest looks because it's still cooling, but I imagine that the chunks aren't visible anymore? Why did they bleed so much? Do I need a lower overpour temp? Also as I was throwing chunks into the mold, I was wondering how the wick is kept straight, as I kept having to re-arrange the chunks a million times to lay off the wick? Thanks!
  3. Thank you! I tried another pillar, but with paraffin wax and it came out the nicest out of all my other attempts! Buuut... I'm still getting those pesky little air bubbles. I tap the sides of the mold several times to release the pressure, but for some reason I still get them? :undecided
  4. Thank you so much for the reply. The wax the I used (and don't like so much) is from Michaels. I think it's the kind made for glass, I'm not sure exactly what it is because I tossed the paper. The wicks I used are also from there and they are bleached w/20mm clip. I find this wax hard to work with, or maybe it's just me. I'm finishing up my first gel, and that was by far much simpler, especially since bubbles are a good thing! I poked relief holes when the inside of the candle is still wet... so that's bad right?
  5. Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum as well as candle and soap making. I'm hoping that one day I'll get good enough to sell my creations, but at the moment it doesn't look promising . I've made several batches of votives and even did a glass jar candle. At the moment I'm trying my very first pillar candle, and well I'm very discouraged. For some reason, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong but my candles don't look so good. My main thing is that I'm not sure how to top off a candle. Every time I do, and I pour slow, I can't seem to get rid of the seam line or I go over the existing wax which makes it look strange in the end. What's the proper way to top off? Also do I top off if the candle is completely cool, or about 45 min after the initial pour? Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
