  1. LOL yes I do have a male lump on the couch. He's actually been very supportive, but for some reason won't help me with the wax/jars and he has a continually stuffed up nose!!! What good is that to a candlemaker????:P

This is another trick he has..... I lug the 40 lb. bag of dog food from the store shelf, into the cart, out into the trunk and all the way home. When I get home he takes it in and says (to the dogs) "Look what daddy bought you". :waiting:

LMAO..."look what daddy bought you"...that's too fricken funny!

  2. I'm another GL 70/30 user and love it. I use Peak's fo's in it and have much success both cold/hot throw. Perfect tops every time. I do pour between 190-195 though and heat my containers...wrap in a towel and cover with a box to cool slowly...seems to help make a perfect looking candle. Needs to cure 3-5 days for best cold throw.

  3. I'd highly suggest getting a sample of GL's 70/30 soy blend. I've been able to wick most of my fragrances with an eco 4 in a 2.5 diameter straight jar. I do get hang up initially but it does catch up mid jar and very little black soot when burned/trimmed properly. Eco 6 works well too and less hang up but more soot. As far as appearance I get perfection each and every time. No wet spots, no frosting, perfect creamy tops...appearance wise it's awesome. Hot and cold throw has been great too...5 day cure time typically since it's mainly soy. I've used this wax in a 10oz. keepsake doubled wicked with LX12s and little to no visible soot. I don't have as much experience as most others on here but I tried several different soy waxes and appearance of soy was frustrating for me not knowing what kind of candle I was going to get after each pour. I spent a lot of time trying to fix the appearance of soy instead of embrasing its character! If I ever decide to go back to soy I'll test tins.

  4. As I mentioned before I do colorless soy but the benefits I'm boasting about it is that it will go with any decor and you can choose the scent you want without the fear of hating the color. For me I think my candle nose was geared towards only the colors I liked which wasn't a big range. I think I missed out on a lot of awesome scents because I didn't want hot pink, orange, blue, etc... in my house. I guess my point being is you may increase your sales going colorless because color is taken out of the decision making all together. Hope that made sense!

  5. My experience is limited but I use 70/30 parasoy and have pour/tested one. The scent throw was great...that wasn't the issue. OOB it had a weird fuel smell on all the full size & sample orders...just didn't smell nice. Burning it was a tad bit better & didn't smell that as much but didn't enjoy the scent either. I'm going to test a couple more just to see though. I've had better luck OOB with other suppliers.

  6. I'm using colorless parasoy blend in the libbey's status jar. It looks very classy and have only sold to family and they didn't even question it being colorless. In all honestly I don't think they noticed it wasn't colored...smelled it and said how pretty it looked. My reasoning for colorless was to cut the cost of the candle. If anyone asks I'll say so it'll go with any decor.

  7. You have a nice selection there and quite a few will transition into the holidays. I received a sample of the Brown Sugar and Fig, and it just may be my favorite (this week), I only put it in Body Butter, but am ordering a pound of it. And I think Vanilla Mint is a great choice over Vanilla Passion. Good call on the Pear Spice. I use a Pear from Candles & Supplies called Honey Baked Pear and people LOVE it, but I'm in a parablend, so I'm not sure about 100% soy.

    Good luck!

Thank you...I'm feeling better about this revised list...thanks to you guys! I tested the vanilla hazelnut of Peaks in hopes of adding it to the list but it's a very light scent so was hoping the vanilla mint would be a little stronger....you guys thinks that's true? I'm using GL's 70/30 so maybe the honey baked pear will do good...i'll have to sample it. I've never ordered from them. Peaks I've had great luck with on every scent...their scent are true to their name unlike a couple of other suppliers I've tried so I'm gun shy on branching out on other suppliers at the moment. I did pour some lemon pound cake from BCS and it smelled just like lemon pound cake...never knew that was going to be an issue in suppliers, haha. I'm so happy to hear the positive review of the brown sugar fig...it's my favorite scent at BBW and hope it smells good in a candle!!! Will be putting in ANOTHER order soon!

  8. Thanks Fern...I think I'm trying the impossible task of making only the top selling fall fragrances...my list keeps changing as we speak. I surveyed friends and the majority came back with pumpkin spice as their fall fav. Cornucopia rated last. Here's my top ten now...last one is Candy Corn which is not Peaks...I'll have to find a supplier of a good Candy Corn in soy...any suggestions? Do you guys think 10 scents for Fall is too many?? Should I narrow it down even more?

    Crème Brulee

    Warm Apple Pie

    Pumpkin Spice

    Vanilla Mint

    Cinnamon Buns

    Cappuccino Hazelnut

    Pear Spice

    Gingerbread

Brown Sugar & Fig (if it smells like bbw type)

    Candy Corn

Oh Peaks is out of Apple Jack Peal so now looking at Pear Spice instead. Still would love more feedback on what you guys think!!!

  9. I LOVE Amish Harvest I'll burn that one all year, so I'm biased, but for Fall I don't think two different apple scents would be a bad thing. I think alot also depends on where you live. I offer AJ&P, Warm Apple Pie and Winter Candy Apple (not Peaks).

Personally, Lemon Pound Cake is a spring/summer bakery to me.

Ok, that sounds good about the apple...I'll scratch LPC from the list, thanks.

  10. My top Holiday Seller, is Peak Amish Harvest, very strong and yummy.

I've tested Amish Harvest and liked it as well...smelled a lot like Warm Apple Pie to me and thought WAP was stronger so went with that but if it's a top holiday seller may forgo the WAP. Is WAP not a big seller?

  11. For Fall I don't do much Lemon Pound Cake, but I would add Apple Jack & Peel to your list, it is a scent that transitions into Christmas too.

Do you think having Warm Apple Pie and the Apple Jack & Peel is too much apple? Should I have one or the other? What season is Lemon Pound Cake?

  12. Out of Peak's scents which would you list as your top 10 must have for Fall in soy wax? Here are ones I was thinking of:

    1. Creme Brulee (tested - smells great, like syrup to me...throws great)

    2. Warm Apple Pie (tested - smells great, spicy to me...throws great)

    3. Pumpkin Spice (tested - smells & throws great)

    4. Cinnamon Buns (tested - smells & throws great)

    5. Cappuccino Hazelnut (tested - strong, strong, strong, haha)

    6. Vanilla Passion (don't know if this is Fall but read great reviews)

    7. Brown Sugar & Fig (not sure if this is either but i love BBW version)

    8. Lemon Pound Cake (not tested but sounds yummy)

    9. Banana Nut Bread (tested - smells great, more banana to me...throws great)

    10. Gingerbread (not tested but sounds yummy)

Any other must have Peak scents for Fall that could replace one on my list?

  13. Not sure if their is such a thing as massage therapy type scents (maybe aromatherapy?) but my cousin works at one and her along with her coworkers burn soy candles & want to try mine. Does anyone have any ideas of some good scents to try out for this type of environment for soy?

  14. I've never ordered from Lonestar. Anything else good from them? I've always been tempted to try these, have you used any? Marshmallow Maddness, Jazzberries, Pumpkin Pickin, Lollipop, Banana Nut Bread, Birthday Cake, Creamy Vanilla.

And I agree, ICS's Downy is a perfect dupe.

I've only tried one scent from them and it was creme brulee...loved the scent and strong throw in my C-3 at the time. I like their creme brulee scent better than Peak's creme brulee...Peaks smells like syrup to me but still smells good.

  15. Start off with samples of every new wax you want to try in addition to sampler packs of wicks. GL's 70/30 is a great soy blend with little to no appearance issues depending on your container. I've used it in a 7.5 oz. status/metro jar and a 10oz. keepsake jar...I find it adhears better to the status/metro jar than the keepsake and not sure why but the keepsake just had some wet spots...no frosting (pre or post burn)...still a pretty candle with smooth perfect tops each and every time, never a surprise. Scent throw has been wonderful when using good FOs at 6%. A good 5-7 day cure time is needed. Problem with pure soy is you have a lot of appearance issues in addition to sink holes which you have to fix with heat gun or 2nd pour. IMO, it doesn't make a 'pretty' looking candle. To test scent throw on pure soy I found a good 2wks cure is needed. I would highly recommend a sample of GL's 70/30 if you're new to candle making & want great scent throw. It's an easy wax to work with. I also recommend wicking down as much as possible (hang up on sides that will go away later as it burns) to reduce soot. I was able to wick my metro/status jar FINALLY with no visible soot. They have their own board to so you can ask more specific questions pertaining to the wax too. HTHs :) .

Edit this to say, I poured hotter for the 10oz. keepsake jar today and did not have any wetspots when cooled. Larger diameter seems to need to be poured hotter than smaller ones maybe??
