  1. Hey Everyone, I am making some of the witch hat/ pumpkin candles from Big Lots and want to do some of them in the Iced Carrot Cake scent (since I sell a ton of that scent, esp this time of year because of it's spicy, warm fragrance). I would like to rename it though for the pumpkin candles, (just doesn't seem right to have carrot cake in a pumpkin), Anyone have any suggestions?? TIA Tara
  2. Try taking a Qtip and dipping it into each fragrance you want to mix. Put it in a ziploc bag and let it sit for a while. This will give you a good idea as to what your candle will smell like.
  3. Hi all! I have been approached by one of my clients to make a wedding cake candle as favors for her daughters wedding next year. (I have a picture attached so you can see an example). For those who have done these, where have you purchased your molds from? I googled it and found most places want around $30 - 40 for the mold! Does this sound outrageous or is it just me? Also, what is the going rate for these? TIA for any advice anyone can give!!
  4. Hi! I am from Texas also (Dallas area), and I did a show back in May outside, in the heat. (It was the one day in the spring where the temp hit 100)! My candles were melting everywhere. We weren't allowed to pack up and leave until 4, but after hours of moving the tent around, trying to keep my candles shaded, I gave up and boxed everything up. I completely lost about 10 candles. It just wasn't worth it to me. I won't ever do an outdoor show again. My advice, if you still decide to do it, Keep everything shaded and get a tent near an outlet so you can at least use fans. HTH
  5. I just got a sample of 1274 yesterday and I love it... Esp. if you are wanting to make the mottled candles. They have come out perfect everytime! I use the 1343 for my rustics.
  6. Hey Holly! I have found both of them at my Walmart! They are usually in the seasonal section. HTH
  7. I use the Spiced Pumpkin liquid dye from LoneStar. It turns out that exact color every time!
  8. You guys are having way too much fun with this... I Love it...Love the ideas..... I don't have to worry about colors though. They want them all colorless, packaged and tied with bright ribbons. I guess they think that is one of the selling points. Even though they are all white, they are still different scents. I'm definately going with some of the names you guys picked out. Thanks sooo much!!
  9. Those are awesome ideas. That definately gives me a head start! I'm using the little 10oz square containers from Walmart. They sell like crazy in their boutique here in Dallas. Hopefully the Las Vegas store will do well also. If so, they want to continue the line in their Beverly Hills store. YEAH!! Well see....Thanks to everyone for the creative ideas!
  10. Ok guys, I need some help here... I've been asked to send an assorted collection of my container candles to a high end boutique on the Vegas Strip. I'm sooo excited! I really want to do something fun and rename some of my scents to go with the Vegas theme, but I am brain dead and could use some help. I am sending French Market, Mango Papaya, Creme Brulee, Coconut Lime Verbena, and Hot Apple Pie. Any good suggestions on naming them "Vegas Style". Thanks soooo much for your help!!
  11. Ok guys, I tried it again last night. I made one with steric and cooled it slowly in a box with 1oz FO, poured at 180, liquid dye, and did get some mottling, but very random, not even at all. I also made one the exact way I did last week, no steric, 1 oz FO, liquid color, poured at 180 and left it on the counter to cool. Absolutely no mottling. I'm soooo frustrated! I made several rustics in the meantime and they turned out beatiful! So, that's good. I wouldn't even bother with the other except I have this customer that keeps bugging me to copy a Pier 1 candle that has been discontinued. I'm about ready to tell her to call Pier 1!!
  12. Last week, I didn't add any additives, cooled them on the countertop (nothing special) and used the same FO. The only thing I did do different is I only melted enough wax to do one candle at a time, and this time I made enough to do 2 or 3. We will see. Thanks again everyone!
  13. I'm using liquid dye. I will try cooling them in a box and adding the steric and see if that helps. Thanks for the advance.
  14. I poured the last batch at about 190 (per candle co instructions), I poured the batch yesterday much cooler and got the same effect I did today. I have about 1oz pp of FO, but no additives. Could I have too much FO?
  15. Ok, I've got the my rustics down and I'm loving it. Now I'm working on mottled candles (for one of my customers). Last week, I made several and they turned out great. Yesterday and today I tried and guess what....I have yet to get the mottled effect. I'm using 1343. Any tips anyone would like to share?! Please.....TIA
  16. Thanks to everyone for all your help! Just to add... I am using 1343 and I am using a wick pin. How many times do you prime your wick, is dipping it once enough, or do you do several coats? PS... I took the few that I made into work yesterday and took orders for 18 of them!! Yeah!! I'm so excited! I have had so much fun with the pillars, I think I was getting a little bored with my containers. I will post pics this weekend.
  17. Hi everyone! I have successfully created my first rustic candle with tilted layers (Thanks so much Trish for all of your help!!), and now I'm ready to wick it. I thought I would try a 30 flat ply wick, my question is... now, don't laugh at me... do these wicks need to be dipped first, or do I just use them "raw", just out of the package? Hope that makes sense, I'm sure it's getting a few snickers out there. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Have a good one!
  18. Thanks to everyone for the tips. I will try doing that and see how it goes!
  19. sudsnwick-- How do you package them when you ship to Arizona?
  20. I have had several people ask me to ship candles to them, including the sister stores of a boutique that I currently sell in. Problem is...I'm in Texas and most of them are in California and Las Vegas. For those who ship, what is the best way to ship candles when having to deal with 100 degress + temps without having to worry about melting. This would be for containers only. TIA! Tara
  21. Great, that gives me a starting point. What are some of the most popular scents for the bears?
  22. Just out of curiousity, what do you typically sell these bears for? I'm thinking about making these to sell in my salon for Christmas. I think most of the woman would love this idea!
  23. Ok, I just bought the 1343. I guess I will play with it for a little while and see what happens. I've had great success with all of my containers, I forgot how much time and $$ it takes when testing new products!! Thanks for everyone's help. DanaE -- I will definately keep the 6228 in mind also. Thanks! Tara
  24. I will definately pick up some 1343 then. Any suggestions as to what to wick the 3 x 4 with? Just to get me started?! TIA
  25. Not really, the 51z seems to be burning right down the middle. I'm headed to the candle place today, I think I'll pick up some other samples. I would eventually like to do rustics, is one wax better than others for that? or is it just all in the technique?
