  1. Does anyone have any idea where to find leather bands like the one around this candle?? I would love to dress up some pillars like this, but have no clue as to where to find the bands!
  2. I have a customer who wants me to duplicate this candle. I have a sample but cannot, for the life of me, fiqure out what the fragrance is... I know it is a perfume/cologne, but can't quite put my finger (or nose) on it... Anyone know what a good dupe for this is?? Thanks!!
  3. Thanks and sorry! I always forget about that section!!
  4. Hey everyone... I just realized that Just By Nature is very close to where I live... I've read a couple of threads on here about some of their dupe scents.. To anyone out there who has purchased from them.. what do you think about their FO's and which one of theirs is your favorite? Thought I might drive over there sometime soon and check them out...
  5. Has anyone ever noticed the aroma beads Hallmark stores sell? They sell them out of huge glass containers. You scoop them yourself into organza bags. I was wondering if anyone knew where to buy all the decorative sequins, glitters, etc... that they put in theirs to make them look so "pretty". Any ideas??..... Just curious.....:rolleyes2
  6. If I remember correctly, they hold about 14 oz. of wax....It's either 14 or 12. HTH:confused:
  7. Cool! I have almost all of those... I will begin to test away... Lavender seems to be really popular these days, so maybe I will start with that one!
  8. Hey everyone! Does anyone have any suggestions on what mixes well with Jasmine? I would love to try a couple of combo's and test them out! Thanks for any suggestions!
  9. I use 1343 for my pillars and J50 for my containers. Do you have any suggestions?
  10. Hey everyone! I was asked to make some aromatherapy candles and was just curious as to what seems to be the most common (popular) aromatherapy combinations. I need about 4-5 combinations. Thanks for any suggestions!!
  11. In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, I was just curious what different scents people have used when making their "Red, White and Blue" candles. I know the most popular is Hot Apple Pie for red, Vanilla for white and Blueberry for blue. Would anyone else like to share their ideas?
  12. I just want to thank everyone for your support and ideas. Hopefully she will read this and get the hint! This situation has been going on for almost a year now. Everytime she copies something I just keep my head held high, my mouth shut, and go to work on my next design. But the logo and design thing was the last straw! I guess I'd better get busy on something new! I have alot of work to do. Thanks again!
  13. Thanks Angela. I am fortunate enough to have my candles in other salons and high end boutiques. The only reason I even keep them in the salon is because many of not only my clients, but other people's clients by from me on a regular basis. Otherwise, I would pull them out completely!
  14. Thanks for the support and advice everyone, it really does suck! Especially when she has been overheard saying "Come look at my stuff, they are basically the same. I get my stuff from the same place she gets hers from!" Lorrie -- That's what my husband said, "I should be flattered". I would be if it were someone else, somewhere else taking pieces of my designs and adding to it to make it there own. Definately would be flattered! BrandNew..-- I totally agree. I love this board. I have learned so much from it and have shared ideas when I can. I've used several ideas I've gotten off of here and revamped them to make them "my own". I think the only way we learn is through others, it's just sad that some people have to stoop to this level. TexasBrat -- I did that, made something ridiculous and low and behold the next week she had the same thing.. My co-workers and I had a good laugh! (trying to keep the situation light) Daisy -- Unfortunately I am an independent contractor and it is not my salon, otherwise, she would be out on her A$$!! And not to be tacky, but...I hope she does read this, maybe this will get the point across, once and for all!!!
  15. Here's a good piece of advice for those of you who have competitors out there.... Watch the questions you ask on this message board, because chances are, your competitors are!! I'll try to make this short (hahaha) I work in a salon, my "real" job of 14 years. I began making candles 2 1/2 years ago and began selling almost 2 years ago in my salon. I started small, and had a great response! One of the lady's I work with decided she was going to take over her son's "candle company" and begin making candles as well, selling them also in the same salon. I started with containers without dyes. Very natural, and pure looking...Low and behold she did the same thing. Then, always striving to be different, I spent many months learning how to make and testing pillars candles and votives (Thanks to Trish and all of you guys!) Within a week of me debuting them in the salon, she brought in her pillars and votives. She even started making her hang tags the same way as mine! This, however, was the last straw, and where all of you guys come in.. I spent weeks, and I do mean weeks, working with "Bizzy B" to design the perfect logo for my company. I finally got exactly what I had been looking for! I posted my design on here to get advice and I was ready to take my new design to the printers to have labels made. Silver foiled Oval labels with black print... ( accented with black hang ties, and bows) I went into work on a Wednesday morning, disk in hand ready to go Office Depot on my lunch break, and low and behold, she had all of her container candles in cello bags with black bows, black lids on her large containers, and professional labels made looking almost identical to my design and color style!!(Black oval labels with silver writing) Not kidding!! I cried, in the privacy of my own car, all the way home. Now, I feel like I am back to square one. The only thing I can figure out is she is reading all of my post on this website to find out what my next move is. Anyone have any ideas how to handle this situation?? I would confront her, but she has a very strong personality... I would go ahead with my idea, but I don't want people thinking I copied her... Any help or suggestions would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
  16. I will try the lavender vanilla. Has anyone ever tried lavender rose or lavender and ylang ylang? Just curious as to how those would mix...
  17. Hey Everyone... Quick question...I need to make a lavender candle for one of my customers, but she wanted it mixed with something else just to tone down the strong lavender smell just a little..Any mix suggestions?? Thanks so much for any ideas!
  18. No one sells them...Not that I found. I checked all over town and ended buying one on Buy It Now from ebay. The guy even gave me the name of a place to have the plate made for $3. HTH
  19. [/ATTACH]Hey guys! Beckie (bizzyb) has been working on a logo for me. She is awesome to work with and has been so patient with me. Here are two versions she has done for me. Can you guys help me out and let me know which one you like the best or what I can do differently to give it that "wow" factor? Thanks sooo much!!
  20. I help a friend of mine every year raise money for the 3 Day Walk. I make candles in the heart shape with French Market as the scent. She packages them in cello bags and ties them with Pink Ribbon. Last year, she sold about 300 of them, and this year she plans on doubling that. It's a great scent for that purpose. HTH
  21. Lonestar Candle Supply has a GREAT Red Currant & Thyme Tea. I sell a ton of those. HTH
  22. No, not just fragrance, I filled each with J50 and different fragrances to make a candle in each one. I guess I should have explained a little better.
  23. At Kirkland's in the mall. I think I've bought out every store around Dallas! You never know what is going to sell. I think I bought 12, and sold all of those the first day. Now, everytime I set them out at work, I sell out of them. Love them!
  24. This was a great find! I have sold about 80 of these little guys. Their hats come off and I have filled it with about 5 oz of fragrance. I paid about $1.50 a piece and sold them for $8 each. Too cute!
  25. I've also used J50 forever. I agree, too much FO, but I have also found that with some FO's it helps to heat the FO some before you add it to your wax. Since heating them, I very, very rarely have this problem. HTH!
