  1. I have only had a few box office bombs in the way of fragrance oils and I also blend them to see what can be salvaged. On most occasions, a blend did the trick. I do always hold onto the lousy oil though to remind me NEVER to go that route again.

  2. The absolute best Frankincense & Myrrh that I have ever used is from New Directions. It is so strong and authentic. They do have a $100 minimum now and this puts off a lot of customers.  I could not agree more about NG's. it is not good at all.

  3.

It's so funny I started with CP and ended up doing HP and MP which I like better personally than CP.

I could not agree more. I still do CP and find that all soaps sell if the customer likes it.

On another note, there is an abundance of CP snobs- at markets, in online shops, and on message boards. I think there are more CP snobs  than HP soapers, both both snobs exist. Just blow off what they say. I have found that people who look down on others generally have their own insecurity issues. Most of these people just look like pompous a$ses and are best ignored. I think that great soap is great soap no matter what kind it is. It is how the soap is made and marketed that matters in my opinion and this is what determines its quality. I enjoy making all kinds of soaps and think that every soap has its place in this world.

  4. In my opinion, phthalates will be an issue in future years. We saw it happen with lots of things in this industry.  I recently converted all of my new oil purchases over to phthalate-free. I am not selling anything as phthalate-free yet and do not anticipate doing so for a couple of years.  I have too much of an FO inventory to get through. However, all of my new oils are phthalate-free.

  5.

    For what it's worth...

In the last 13 years, I have had one customer who wanted fragrance free, and maybe 2 who asked about phthalates. WAY less than 1 %. I have never been asked about them when selling Thymes candles. I have never been asked about them when selling Yankee candles.

I have had numerous people ask about phthalates in soap and body products.

  6. I would not read too much into one email.  One of the bad things about email is that sometimes we assume the worst. We are not able to hear tone, inflections, etc... Sure, he could have started the email with "hi" or something like that. But, I would not assume that you offended him.

  7. I agree with Vicky. It is great that you explained your situation to your customers and that they are so understanding. But you need to figure out how to manage your business more smoothly, so there is not such a wait and no need for so many explanations. I know this customer won free stuff and she should not have complained about the scents and products once she finally received everything. I think that her only complaints should have been about the wait time. I do not mean to insult you.  I just think that it is important for you to see the big picture so that you can improve your situation.

  8. Sweet Cakes are the best oils in my opinion. No matter what scent I have purchased, it always outsells everything else.  Their Blueberry is the best that I have every smelled and a staple in my line. Other favorites include True Rose, Peony, Lime Margarita, Black Raspberry, and Mandarin Orange. Their Masculine Musk is also another wonderful one.

  9. I have BCS's Strawberry Jam, but it smells artificial to me. My all-time favorite is ICS's Fresh Picked Strawberries

I could not agree more regarding BCN Strawberry Jam.  It smells artificial to me as do most of their scents to my nose anyway. ICS Fresh Picked Strawberry is wonderful.  I have never soaped it though.  I gave up soaping strawberry.
