  1. Just by my experience (which is not long) in testing different f/o's, I would guess it's the f/o. Some f/o will turn your wax yellow. I have a mulberry f/o that is really strong and will turn the wax yellow. I have a dogwood f/o that doesn't change it at all and stays a pretty white. I don't know if that's really what you mean by turning yellow. This is just a guess, I'm wondering if maybe it's turning yellow after cooling(where the melt pool was) because the wick is too big and getting the glass too hot and in return scourching the wax.:undecided I don't know, that's just a guess. Maybe someone with more experience can answer that. You might want to give your HTP104 wick 2 1/2 to 3 hours to reach it's melt pool. HTH
  2. Well, I was hoping you would say you were getting a full melt pool in 30 min. and your mystery would be solved. Your answer would be the " The Wick Did It". It still maybe the wick. You might want to try wicking down since it seems the glass jar gets narrower towards the end. Not much narrower, but it might be enough to cause the problem. I read on a wick chart of another site, that HTP105 are recommended for 3 1/2 in diameters and 16 oz. jars and that HTP104 are recommened for 2 1/2 in to 3 in diameters. If that doesn't work, I would try another f/o and see if you are getting the same results. HTH, let us know what you find out.
  3. Htp105 are coreless, no zinc. You mentioned getting a full melting pool. How long does it take to reach a full melt pool?
  4. What size is your container and type of wick (need to know size). Sometimes the wick can be to big for the size of cantainer you are using. I've also have noticed (imo) that the candles I have burned with a zinc core get real sooty easily.
  5. Hi Soyager! It will help if you can share how much soy (what type), what % of f/o and type of wick. Alot of times these are your culprits. This will also help others better to guide you.
  6. Thank you Purple Lilac for the tip! :highfive:
  7. Can anybody help?? Has anyone ever bought from SunFeather??? I sure would love ya'lls advice. Tia
  8. I'ld like to learn how to make homemade soaps that have some dried leaves or flowers. I've been searching for a kit. I found a couple in Canada but I am scared of shipping cost. There is a company in NY that is called SunFeather. They have an organic lemon verbena kit that is cp. They also carry some dried botanicals. Does anyone know if that would work? Has anyone purchased from this company? Does anyone know a company that carry these types of kits? TIA
  9. Pleeeeeaaaaaasssseee, post your results. I've been very curious but have not had time to test it myself. My brother is getting married this weekend and I can't wait until it's over so I can get back testing. I think I'm having withdrawals.LOL:yay:
  10. I have never used crisco but I remember reading where some people have used 1tsp. to 1 oz. pp. I remember someone posted a pic ont the thread about testing 464 and showed their results using it. I have also read where people have warned using too much can cause smoking and sooting. www.barnloftcandles.com carries frost top. HTH
  11. I've been test burning a candle that when 1st poured had no frosting. I burned it a couple of times and when I put it out, I would also put the top back on for safety around children. The other night I burned it again, this time I didn't put the top on and after it had cooled their was frosting. Then I saw your post ( made me we want to test a theory) So, I started burning it again this time put the top back after I put it out. No frosting! I guess when I put the top back on after burning it, it helped the soy cool at a slower rate and cut the frosty. I know I've read alot of people using a little bees wax, frost top or even crisco to help get rid of frosting. I haven't had a chance to experiment with any of them yet.
  12. Do you cover yours, like set them in a box or a cooler? I was thinking maybe the top is cooling to fast and causing frosting there. Keep in mind, I'm a newbie. I might not be to much help.
  13. They already are selling their f/o and wicks. I ordered a bunch of f/o & wax and got my stuff yesterday. Are you ordering Soy Pro? I have had really good results with mine. I don't know if you want any tips but I highly recommend to get the wax temperature up to 180*. HTH Have fun
  14. Thank you guys for your replies! In your opinion, does this have an effect on your burn pool and scent throw? I'll test it out for myself but I'm still curious what you guys think.
  15. When I ordered my very first candle kit I received a package of various sizes of paper core wicks. I recently received a couple of samples with a order I got from another company. These had on the pack 60-44-18 but the diameter of these wicks seemed larger at first glance. So, I compared them to the 60-44-18 and the 62-52-18 I had left from my kit and they are larger than both sizes. So, now I'm wondering is their a difference in the quality of paper core wicks from the suppliers? And if so, is this why when one person may post they are having difficulty wicking, another person maybe using the same type of wax , f/o & wicks and having no trouble at all?
  16. Today, I burn tested 3 candles in three different classes with the help of the teachers. All three had the f/o I recieved from soycandle.com. I had recieved Baked Apple Pie, Creme Brulee, and Mulberry. All three smelled wonderful. The teachers who tested them, loved them. Creme Brulee and Mulberry were both in 8 oz. jj. They both had melt pooles straight across the jars. There was no wax left on the sides. They did not exhibit any soot. When let to cool and harden after burning several hours, the tops stay smooth with no cracks or funny looking surfaces. As for the red Baked Apple Pie it was in a square container. I need to do some work on wicking a little better. It burned clean and the top showed no frosting when cooled after burning for a couple of hours. I will warn you about the Creme Brulee I got from them. At first smell oob, I was not impressed. I did not believe there was anyway that f/o would have any kind of scent throw. But I was wrong!!! After it had cured, and we lit it, it was the strongest throw of them all. Baked Apple Pie is still my favorite but Creme Brulee got all the attention. HTH and I can't wait to hear everybody elses test results.
  17. Thank you for sharing. It's so cool that it's easy.
  18. I love home made bread!! I bet it smells yummy. Looks very nice !!! Is it hard to do?
  19. It has been curing since Wednesday afternoon. I like to give a candle a fair shot. I find when working with a f/o I get candlenose. So, when I'm testing I move it away from me. Tomorrow, I will get it's ultimate test. I work in kindergarten and their classroom's are very big. The teachers are great @ testing & giving me their opinions. Most of them love candles and can be very picky (which in this case, is a great asset to me) .
  20. :whoohoo: :whoohoo: I couldn't wait to test burn. ( I know bad tester, bad tester:whip: .) I lit the Baked Apple pie & Soy Pro in the bathroom @ 9:50 this morning and shut the door. I opened the door @ 10:10 and I thought I walked in Grandma's Kitchen. So, I still wasn't convinced because my bathroom is small. I moved it to my bedroom and shut the door. I gave it 30 min. It's a winnner. My whole room smells like Baked Apple Pie. I can't wait to have the ladies @ work smell this hot throw. I'll let you know their opinions tomorrow.
  21. It does look really bad , but it smells and burns great!! I think this thread can help answer your question about SoyPro better than me. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23295&page=2
  22. The only wicks I have is paper cores and heinz coreless. I just used what I normally would with the other soy waxes. I wish I could be more help.
