I've tried Red Hots from Tradewinds Fragrance Company. It smells like the little red hots candies when you burn the candle. I used one ounce per pound. HTH

That is very sweet of her to do that! It looks very nice too! My prayers for your daughter.

Before you buy a presto pot you could try the double boiler method mentioned on this site. Check it out in the general section I think.
Just thought it could save you even more money if you decided you didn't like to make candles.

I've been using pillar wax for melts. I use a parrafin blend though. Haven't tried a soy yet.

congratulations! hope you do well!! :yay:

well its turned slightly opalescent so it came out real pretty-- but man is it milk white
-
I might try a touch of blue next time. But that milk white just cracks me up everytime I look at those candles. They smell real nice too!

I used white dye for some clean cotton scented container candles. They are so perfectly white they look just like containers of milk. They are very pretty but I did not have milk color in mind when pouring them.
I couldn't remember what I had read about using white dye. The color list I had had no color for clean cotton or a touch of blue.
What is best for clean cotton?
I honestly had to pour myself a glass of milk from looking at them. I happened to be snacking on a piece of cake at the time and looking at those milk colored candles was too much for me!!

Frankly I don't see what all the hype is for Yankee's anyway. I like mine better. I've tried Yankee candles and the hot scent throw was off. A bit too chemical smelling for my taste.

yuck! smelly wax! send it back
you use a parrafin based wax?

liquid dyes for me

Hi Lauren! I used to live in Baton Rouge many years ago. I went to LSU. Yay Tigers!
I used J233 for a while and had the same problem. I also use apothecary jars so I know how you feel. J233 is not completely a no repour wax. At least not for me.
So I switched to the J50 and no more problem. I still have some J233 left but only use it on very small containers like 10 or 8 oz jars.

That sounded dumb. I meant some of the wicks that were straight still didn't center. Anyhoo-- I don't like using them cause I can never tell if they will work or not.
-
I had the same problem so I would be interested to know too. I used them in making votives and several were off center when they cooled. I don't use them anymore. I was hopping mad! And yes-- upon close inspection they were not all straight!

Yup! I agree. The pics of how to fill were very helpful:cheesy2:

Forgot to add I wick them before I put them in the oven.
-
I warm mine up in the oven a few minutes before I pour. Gives me time to mix my wax and put in FOs, dyes, etc. I try for 150 but the oven sometimes gets hotter. I haven't been able to tell any differences in the finished candle between the 2 temps.
-
I've heard the same about just scents but haven't tried em yet. A lot of places have samples you can get to test out.
-
I had the exact same problem using glue dots. I have been using a glue gun ever since and no more problem!
-
I use the zinc too.

Does this mean I should have been saving my cookiepuss's cat pee and put it in wax?!!!
-
I had one break a couple of days ago. Now I only have one left.
-
I checked out the jar store and they always seem to be out of what I want. Let me know how fancy candle jars work out for ya.

Thanks for the link Beck. I got some good labels from planet label but had to buy by the box.
Votive wick pins

I had a similar prob with some of my wick pins. I quit using them and now I just place the wick in when the wax is cooling. It is working out better for me and taking less time. I also have centered wicks now.
