Yeah. I would be very wary about these people that demand a space without payment or appl form. I'm thinking deadbeats, no-shows., etc.
-
Most of my craft shows I do state on the application that they will not hold a space without a check/payment included with it.
I think (at the very least) I would place some kind of deadline for payment if you want to hold a place.
HTH

I'm gonna try that. I have been wanting to sell tart warmers to go with my melts and water bowls for my floating candles..... and maybe some votive holders..... and maybe........
-
I was thinking the same. Some shows will only let you sell handcrafted items and nothing resale that isn't personally made by you. Just check with the show contact first before you buy.

Isn't there an Ikea close to you? By the time you buy those molds on Ebay and pay for shipping they would have been a whole lot cheaper if you just went to Ikea instead. Or even your local craft store.

I ditto the Mcapple from Peaks. Its perfect for fall here because of apple harvest season in the valley. It smells just great by itself. I think it will be a big seller. We'll see!

I just went thru 5 cases of J50 from a diff supplier and had a similar problem with my jar candles. Sure you usually get a few wet spots but this batch was unbelievable. Huge, I mean huge wet spots all over the place. It would be way too much work to zap each jar with a heat gun. But it only did it with some of the fragrances while others came out perfect.
I found it baffling. Some jars were positively crappy looking while others were perfect. I tried lower temps and higher temps and it didn't seem to make any difference. I could only surmise that it was the wax itself cause it never did that to me before.
But what really gets me is the price of wax and shippping is so high I drive to the supplier to get the wax. I saved about $200. Its not like I have a whole lot of choice of using a different supplier. There are no suppliers in Virginia so I traveled to West Virginia to get my wax.
I still like the J50 but this is gonna make me get off my butt and start test out some new waxes.

Ditto the Southern Pleasures:)

Is your wax cooled before you pour? I think Demenshia gave good advice.

Hope the tarts turn out okay. I have my stupid days too. The other day I was making floating candles and forgot to add wicks to the whole batch! Dang!! However, they made great fluted wax melts.
Shows you what can happen when you are too tired to work.

Wow!! Totally pink! I love that candle.
-
Sure looks yummy! Nice candle. Did you use a fragrance with it?

Virginia is apple country so for this fall I got a few apple scents that I am taking to my fall shows;
McIntosh Apple
Nana's Old Fashioned Apple Butter
and of course Warm Apple Pie
I also have bought for fall:
Sugar Cookie (I mixed it to make a Snicker Doodles FO)
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Home for the Holidays
Bayberry
Buttermint Candies
Spiced Cranberry Relish
Indian Summer
Cornucopia
I also found a Chocolate Brownies FO that is to die for! I almost tasted the oil it smelled so good!
I already have some new FO's that I am testing for Christmas, Spring, and next Summer.

This sounds cool. If I could drag Grumpy with me, we could drive there.
Christina
I was thinking of driving. Would it be possible to caravan together?

Hello...Yes I went to this last year. It was only a one-day event then. This year it was cancelled for some reason. It was GREAT!!! Lots of info, sales on supplies, demos, prizes, goodie bags, etc.
Try to get there if you can. HTH..Ruby
That's all I need to hear. The price is sure right. I would love to see some new and interesting 'creations'.

Taking notes and writing down new recipes. Nobody told me this I learned the hard way that I don't remember how I made something a week ago if I didn't write it down. Now I keep files on all candle recipes and a notepad and pen when I test something new.
That and a heat gun!

This sounds very interesting. It also sounds awfully cheap to me for a two day convention.
Has anyone attended this before?
-
I agree. Nice picture!! The label on top looks great. Looks like you used a see thru label.
I have some Candelina jars that are similar and I just use them to test. I tried a label but found I had the same problem. Not even a round label will fit properly. I will have to try doing one on the top.
Candle-lite uses the round jars and they have their own special labels printed up for their jars. Must be nice.

I'd like to know too. The grass part sounds okay-- but the dirt:undecided

I cure mine for 2-3 days. But I did have a friend that wanted one that she had just watched me make. So I explained that she needed to let it cure for a couple of days. She got real excited watching the color change all afternoon as it was cooling. I wonder how long she waited?!!

Brilliant as usual! Great looking candles. Bet they smell fantastic!

I'd hate to get hit in a snowball fight with one of those!
They are beautiful! Great idea for a winter basket or holiday one.

Very pretty!! How much wax does that have in it? Looks humongous!!!

Sounds like you've got some good strategy already. It does take time. I don't know how long you have been selling but always promote your products when you sell with flyers, bus. cards., etc.
I love New Orleans. I used to live not to far in Baton Rouge and go into New Orleans all the time. Its going to take time locally so I would promote my website as much as possible.
Do you have large signs to hang up at your shows that show your web addy in large letters? Make sure your website is on everything, all your promotional literature.
Does your website have bread crumbs and META tags?
