  1. Bert's going to bankrupt me!

I needed to get some #'s of certain oils & ended up getting a whole lot more of others.

Oh well it was my birthday recently & the money I got will pay half of the cost.

Only thing is paypal went & paid by echeque....again, so now I have to wait even longer :cry2: :cry2: :cry2:

I'm retesting Columbian Coffee today, having to wick up 2 sizes in my CB135 tins. Started out with Eco5 in 4oz tins & Eco 8 in 8oz tins, I'm up to Eco 8 in 4oz & Eco 12 in 8oz now.

The throw is amazing every time but the mp just hasn't been good enough.

Redwood & Cedar is a killer fresh pine scent @ 8% so I can cut down on that one. Same with Rose & Jasmine.

Has anyone tried the Exotic Teak, Cashmere & Mandarin Clove, all in soy?

I've got them coming........along with all the others....:tiptoe: :tiptoe: :tiptoe: :tiptoe:

I AM NOT GOING NEAR BERTS SITE TIL AFTER CHRISTMAS..........so if anyone has any more ideas to tempt me DONT TELL ME........please!!!!!

My kids want christmas presents not empty boxes with IOU's!!!!!

  2. There are so many pages in this thread, it's hard to remember what I've read and haven't. Have any of you tried the french vanilla? I'm just wondering if this on may need to be wicked up? Just getting ready to pour a tester and though I'd see if anyone would share a hint.

    Thanks

    Rebecca

    Love Bert's oils:drool: :yay::drool::yay:

I've got some curing right now in soy/para pillar blend.

I'll get it in CB135 ,in tins tomorrow so we can compare notes when they're cured.

Currently have Jasmine burning.......a knockout at 8% in the soy/para pillar blend, filling the whole downstairs of the house.

Upstairs I have the traditional cranberry burning but it's pretty light so I don't think I'll use it straight. I'll probably try mixing it with some orange spice or the cinnamon, nutmeg & clove.

ETA started the French Vanilla with LX24 in the pillar & Eco 4 in the votive.

  3. 8% & higher for some, especially UK sourced oils.

I've not had any weeping oils with my waxes.

Had Lemon Biscotti Pie votive burning today with an ECO 4 which worked really well. I was thinking I might have to wick up with this one but maybe not. I'll be burning the pillar I made at the same time tomorrow, used an LX 24 so we'll see how that goes.

Right now I have a rose pillar burning which is gorgeous....if you like rose which I do, again F.o @ 8% & LX 24 wick. 2nd burn tomorrow will show how well it progresses.

I need to get these in tins now & compare them too.

I've poured so many testers in the last couple of weeks I don't have enough rooms to test them all out in, never mind I'll catch up eventually, & the house always smells sooo good.

  4. I'm going to fill some baskets with my candles etc & I'm thinking of putting coloured shredded paper in the bottom for filler.

My question is this...as I don't use shrink wrap does anyone know if the colour will bleed from the paper & stain my undyed soy wax pillars & votives?

The candles don't feel greasy & none have bleeding fo but I don't want them spoiled if the paper dye bleeds out.

    Thanks folks.

  5. Tea leaf & Jasmine & Traditional Cranberry are curing right now, will post a report soon as I've burned them.

Cinnamon nutmeg & clove is burning as we speak it fills my bedroom nicely but I'd really like one that has more clove in it. I have to try it down stairs next, it's open plan so I tend not to test in here if I'm making candles too.

Christmas Pear is really nice but I've made another test pillar & wicked down as I think the LX 24 was burning too quickly.

Has anyone tested the Moonlight Path yet?

I poured it 2 days ago so it's curing now but I could barely smell a thing. Could be it's just a light fragrance & my sniffer isn't working too well due to the amount of pouring going on.

  6. I have noticed the same thing but you have no control over the temperature of the home in which your candle is burning once it has been sold.

Therefore I test for optimum performance at whichever time of year the candle is made & try not to test burn in an unheated bathroom on a cold day cos I know I'm not going to get as true a result as I would on a warmer day or in a heated room.

  7. Need help from anyone who has tried Christmas Pear.

I have a 3" diameter soy/pw pillar burning with Christmas Pear @8% just now.

The ht is not big after a weeks curing & the wick LX24 (my starting point for all soy/pw pillars) had huge mushrooms within 2 hours of lighting. The mp seems ok so far for the first burn (3 1/2 hrs on).

I will put it out at 4 hrs let it set up & relight to see if it happens again.

Have you found you need to wick up or down with this fo or maybe 8% is too much.......any ideas?

BTW Columbian Coffee..........awesome in ecosoya pillar/pw blend. Tester had 8% but I'm going to cut it down to 7.5%. Will light the tins later & report back.

Also I love this thread it is one of the most useful FO threads I have come across.

Thanks to all for keeping it going & to Bert for the oils!

  8. I've had that happen once. It was in a square jar I was testing & the sooting happened before the candle had burned low enough to create a chimney effect.

After the first burn the top of the candle was very mucky. I remember the scent was Sandalwood Rose from Solas but I can't remember the wick I used & there was no dye.

I don't like that scent & the jars were a nightmare so I gave up on that idea.

The wax was Ecosoya Cb135 btw.

Not much help am I but at least you know you're not alone with this.

    Sally.
