  1. sorry I accidentally posted this in the gallery section....:rolleyes2

I finally got my "Create the Dream" magazine in the mail. I was reading the section on soap making. they were talking about melt and pour soap bases. Does anyone out there use this. From what i understand Its premade soap that you melt down and add your own fragrance and dye. i have never made soap before and i thought this would be a good way to experiment and get my feet wet since its easy and affordable for a newbie.

has anyone had experiance using this stuff and what are your thoughts on me buying a slab and trying it???

here is the website that is at the end of the article check it out...

  3. ok....so try a smaller wick???? now im confused. I thought the bigger the hotter which means more scent?. Plus If I wick down I might not get a full melt pool. Ill try it.

Saltbaox, I got Lemon danish too! i poured that on sunday so ill be testing in a few days. I poured that in a 4 oz. quilted ball jar from the grocery store. Ill post my results as well. I will be interested to hear your results on this since we are using the same wax for this FO. Lemon danish smells great too! What wick, jar, % Fo did you use???

So basically my next candle needs to have a smaller wick and more FO. Got it. Cant wait to pour another one.

I did forget to mention that my hubby got out of the shower about 1 1/2 after the candle was lite and he said that he could smell it as soon as he got out. Maybe i do have candle nose after all...lol

  4. Im having a hard time judging the scent throw of my testers. I started test burning a candle at 8:00 this evening. I still cannot smell it that well. its sitting in my living room on the coffee table and Im on the couch. I feel like I can only smell it when I concentrate and "try" to smell it.

The Fo is Lemon pound cake from peaks. Im using 70/30 blend. .5oz of fo per 8oz. jar. The candle has cured for 5 days. im using an Eco 6 wick which seems to be doing great. Almost a full melt pool.

I heard great things about Peaks Fo's and Im wondering if my expectations were too high. Or am I just being impatient? How long does it usually take for a good scent throw to start happening? Its been burning now for an hour and 15 minutes. I tried leaving the room and walking back in. still no difference. maybe this Fo doesnt throw in parasoy? or maybe I need to try a hotter wick, like an HTP?? Ok now Im thinking out loud..lol..

    any suggestions/comments....????

  5. The candles I made yesterday now have wet spots.:sad2::cry2:

Im not totally upset but more disapointed. But Im not sure If I should be that hard on myself. After reading all these posts for the last 4 months I kinda expected that wet spots are gonna happen. I dont know why I get so upset when I see them on my candles. I cant wait to go to craft shows this summer and fall and examine all the candles. Maybe If I see wet spots on other peoples candles Ill feel better...lol....

And I read that customers dont care about wet spots they hardly even notice them but something inside of me doesnt believe that.

Is there anyone out there that uses a parasoy blend and never gets wet spots? im sure thats a stupid question but im just curiouse.

I guess one day ill get over it and move on.....but until then :cry2:

  6. Well the idea was that the orange would burn first then the tall grass will come in and mix alittle but the tall grass is so strong im not sure its going to smell nice. The original plan was to have the tall grass kinda clear the nose because it was suppose to be a light fresh scent before you dove in the vinyard. I dont know well see when I test in a few day! ill keep ya posted

  7. Hey ya go. This is what I did all day.

The bottoms three candles are the layers that I told you all I was doing. They turned out good for my first time I think. The Tall Grass Fo is really strong though. It dominates the other scents.

The other are candles using the 70/30 blend.

The two on top are the 4 oz. baby food jars that Im testing Citronella in.

    The purple is Vinyard

    The green is Key Lime

They light yellow is Lemon Pound cake

    the pink is cucumber cantaloupe

  8. Even if you do buy the candle thingy from walmart, you will more and likely wind up buying a presto pot. That is what I use and started off using. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Its so so easy to clean, just wipe with a paper towel while the wax is still hot and your done. also its none stick surface allows for great clean up as well. It has a temp control too.

i got a starter kit to start out with from Bitter Creek north. I wasn't impressed with the supplies or the FO's (yuck) but search around. If you google candle making starter kits you will find so many sites it ridiculous.

GOOD LUCK and welcome aboard :cool2:

  9. You have to decide what kind of style you are going for. Country, contemporary, classic etc....

I decided on the square mason jars because well, I thought they were cute! Dont get me wrong, im not rich or anything but Im going to buy what I like no matter what the cost. I can get a 12 pack of these jars including my choice of lid for 10.00. I dont think thats bad at all.

Eventually i will branch into tumblers and votives....but for right now i think its good to master on container before yo move onto the next. keep searching you will find what you are looking for. when i first saw my jars i knew instantly thats what i wanted to use.

  10. Im using the quare mason jars. They are only 8 0z. so its alittle tricky melting a small amount of wax per layer ( 8 oz each) Im doing three candles and im testing three different wicks as well. I will surely post a pic when Im done! The first layer is settling right now. The only thing that im worried about is the melt pool being too deep and going into the second layer since my container isnt that big. but we'll see!

  11. Hello yall.

I got my shippment from Peaks yesterday and Ive been up since 6 AM making candles!!

After reading all the posts on layering candles I decided that Im going to try my hand at making one. I picked out three scentes that I thought would "look" good and "smell" good together.

Here is what i came up with....

bottom layer..vinyard Fo ( smells like grapes) with burgundy Dye

middle layer.. Tall Grass FO ( smells like freshly cut grass) with sage green dye

top layer..Orange Fo (duh, smells like oranges) with orange dye.

I wanted to have a light yellow on top because I think it will look good with the green but dont have an Fo to match it other than a bakery scent and I dont want to use bakery.

Im going to call this candle "fields of flavor" That is if everything goes well...lol

    wish me luck!
