  1. Okay that's a big DUH! for me LOL. I guess I will try adding MORE extra wax next time and see how that goes.
  2. I wondered about some of it urning off-I know that water will evaporate, but will wax?
  3. I got my Presto about a month ago, and it is as great as everyone said-I love it. But I am having one strange problem. I measure my wax before putting it in the presto, then measure it out into the pour pot (with pot sitting on scale). I keep winding up a couple of ounces short! Last night, I made a few candles, and put a little extra wax in the Presto because of this, and still came up short! Anyone else have this happen or have any ideas what is going on? (Maybe the Presto is eating some of the wax...*getdown* )
  4. I use paraffin (4786 and 1284). I hate the dreaded 'Shroom, but every time I test other wicks, I head back for the zincs. They just seem to have a consistently better melt pool (ergo, better scent throw), and they just seem to burn more consistnetly. Anybody else have thoughts on this?
  5. Just from my experience, I use 4786 with 1 oz./lb. and get great scent throw. HTH!
  6. I am starting to think about selling my candles on a very small scale. I am currently using IGI 4786 and 1284 for votives. I could buy this PW 30/35 locally, but I can't find much info. on it. Being able to be wax locally would be a BIG factor in whether or not I decide to try some selling, so any feedback would be appreciated.
  7. I love the 4786-excellent scent throw, and it is versatile. I use it for containers, votives and tealights ( and the occasional tart!). I am just a hobbyist, so being able to do so much with one wax is great.
  8. Just my .02, but... I gave up on trying to do anything with soy wax, primarily because of how hard it is to wick. It is really a bear, at least IME. Good luck if you decide to give it a go!
  9. Thanks all! One more question (which I forgot in my first post:embarasse ) Does the wax cool btween presto and pouring pot so much that you need to give it an extra shot of heat (say on the trusty double boiler!) in order to pour, or will it still be at an acceptable pour temp?
  10. I have been using the double boiler for my trusty 4786, and the wax has always melted reasonably quickly. However, I have now been bitten by The Pillar Bug, and as this has a higher melt point, and needs to be poured at a higher temp., it is now taking FOREVER for the wax to melt. Is the Presto really noticeably faster? And about what temp. would I need to set it on to reach a wax temp. of 200? (From reading previous posts, it seems you have to set the temp. higher than your desired temp?) Thanks!
  11. I want to try making some chunk pillars. I will be using a 2 3/4 x 6 1/2 spiral octagon mold. I realize that after I have stuffed the mold with chunks, I will need much less wax for the overpout than I would for an ordinary pillar, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark figure as to how much? TIA!
  12. Hi all, I've been making candles for about six years, and I found this board a few months ago. I find this to be a very informative and active community! So, now it's time for me to pick your brains (ha ha). I had never made pillars and wanted to give them a try. I got some of the starburst palm votive /pillar blend from nuscents, and headed to Michael's (with a 50% off coupon:cheesy2: ) and got a mold. I got one there, because they come complete witha wick screw, length of wick and hunk of mold sealer-pretty easy. It is a Yaley mold(spiral octagon, 23/4x61/2). Now I expected that maybe the wick included would not work very well as it was intended for paraffin, but it is burning perfectly! The problem? NOWHERE on the instructions/info sheet included with the mold does it say WHAT *&$#@*@# type of wick it is!! Any ideas? TIA! (Sorry so long!)
