  1. I understand! My name is Valerie, I am a candlemaker and have been in the business for a few years. When I started, I made a lot of costly mistakes and didn't know where to go for information. I also did not know about this forum, (wish I had!) Anyway, My father is a publisher in Kissimmee, Florida, his company is called Magnifier. His company will be publishing the magazine as well as handling advertisements. To make a long story short, I was making dinner for my kids, I looked over to my right, saw Better Homes and Gardens sitting on my counter, and I said to my self, why dont we have that? So, I called my Father, asked him to help, and here we are. I am dead set on this being a non-biased publication, I work with soy, but this isn't just about me, its for all Chandler's. I have contacted a few "seasoned professionals" in the industry to invite them to be an expert columnist and have had great feedback, so it looks as though this Magazine will be what we all need. If you would like more information i.e. my phone and mailing address, you can request it at editor@chandlerquarterly.com Thank you! What we are doing right now is logging the mailing addresses that we are receiving into a database to be used for the mailing house So far we have 9,368! We will not in any way sell or use these addresses for any other purpose than for the mailing of Chandler Quarterly.

  14. Hi everyone, I would like to get some feedback from my peers. We are launching a Chandler Magazine this summer. This magazine will be published quarterly and free to all candlemakers large and small. It will be a non biased publication covering everything from market research, tips, newest candlemaking trends, product reviews, events, consumer trends, business profiles, etc. What would you like to see in a magazine designed just for you and your business?
  15. its a large machine that rolls the wax through tiny holes and the wax sets up immediately, as they are rolled through they are scraped off...walla...wax beads. They are awesome but pratically impossible to hand make.
  16. It sounds like you may have an issue with your FO load and not the wax. Some FOs are very concentrated and viscous, adding a 6% load may be too much. When you have a cold candle and bring it into a warm room, the wax will expand and any extra FO that did not completely bind to the wax will seep right through. Try cutting ack first, a 3% load will give you a strong scent throw, and will reduce the problems you are experiencing. make sure the wax cures for about 48 hours before changing its environment.
  17. Cargill P-1 works best when blended with an additive. This takes away from the "natural candle" sell points but adding 25% parrafin or an additive such as Universal additive will work wonders.
  18. thats what I get for not reading the whole thread before posting. My advise is to research a bit more, so far it sounds like you are a bit confused about the candle industry and the cost to produce and market a candle.
  19. A wax that produces optimal results for one may produce terrible results for another. The best plan of attack is to sample small amounts of many different brands of soy wax, test each wax by making a candle without oil and dye/with oil no dye/with oil and dye. Also, wax and fragrances are very sensitive to one another. Some fragrances may alter the appearence of the wax, may not give off an adequate scent thow, may effect the burn quality of the candle. Dyes will also effect the finished product, so test each color and type/brand...note: dye chips do not mix well with soy, try using liquid that is not a powder base. The time you take to test your waxes, FO's and Dyes will pay off in the long run. There are many companies that will charge very little to nothing for samples, it would be a good idea to research. You also need to take into account when testing, is the many variable that will ultimately affect the final product such as room temperature, pour temp, surface on which you pour your candles, heat retention, air flow, wax set up time, FO load, wick size/treatment/coating/cored/coreless and the list goes on. Remember to write down everything you do (if you sneeze while pouring...write it down). This will help you understand your materials. During my R&D phase I have found that Cargill soy wax, eco wicks and FC&C fragrances/Dyes have given us a beautiful candle.
