Last night I poured some of Peaks Pink Sugar into my wax (from a 4oz bottle) and THEN I noticed that there were crystals in the bottom of the bottle. I forgot that I had to maybe warm up the bottle first to dissolve these crystals. My question is - as these crystals were not dissolved does this have any impact on the quality or strength of the FO I used? Thanks.

Wow Donita, thanks for sharing these, they are stunning. The purple, green and red colours are amazing. I also have the notes somewhere from the archives on how to make these, will have to dig them out. Is it possible to make these candles if you use wick pins, as I know that these have to be dipped in hot wax and then dunked into cold water - (without the wick pin still in them of course) If I want to try this technique, is it better to wick the moulds first? Thanks for any advice. Sarah

As green is my favourite colour I think the green pillar is stunning and I also like the glass hearts with the additional touch of the heart embed. Very nice indeed.

They have some nice candles, love the hurricanes. I wonder if their rustic pillars look like that though?. As soon as I saw the pic I realised I had seen it before - Look at the Techniques and Ideas section on the Candletech Board and see the pic for Rustic/Cold pour candles. I used these instructions when starting out and have it filed in my folder. Just a thought.

I use a sharp craft knife and score the slab into sections, then use the 'ol chisel and hammer method. I would like to try freezing method, but wonder if it would freak my cats out when slamming it on the floor!

I wish I had made these, but I did not. These shapes are becoming popular and thin triangles and rectangle shapes are available too. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what type of mould could be used to make such a candle - a cake tin comes to mind, but how would you get the wick straight and stay in place while it sets up. Any thoughts, info, would be much appreciated.

I think this is a wonderful fantasy castle creation - must look really great lit up in person, (computer screen does not do it justice). Always admired your work and love that twisty taper as well.

What a gorgeous candle. I would never think of making a white candle with that scent, but you have converted me, I am going to give it a go one of these days. I love the presentation too.

Really love this colour combo. I like the way the thickness of your layers are not all the same and there is a streak of vibrant blue here and there. As always your rustic effect is perfect.

I am hoping that I can get some answers to some questions regarding wax melts/tarts. 1) I use a straight paraffin and am wondering if I need to add STEARIN to the wax formula for a wax melt. 2)Do you need to wait a couple of days or more before burning them? 3)What packaging is best to use - I have small cello bags which are great, but how are customers supposed to smell the contents? i.e. do I need to put a couple of air holes in the bag or is it better to have a bag that a customer can open and sniff the wax melt. Sorry so many questions, but really appreciate any answers you can give.:smiley2: Thanks.

Hi everyone, I have just poured some votives and tarts with the Issey Miyake designer type fragrance from AH/RE. It smell wonderful and very true to the fragrance. If I want to label my product with "Issey Miyake", I guess I have to put "type" behind the name as it is a trade name? Do most of you rename designer fragrances and if you do, any suggestions to renaming this one. Thanks very much.:smiley2:

Thanks for the above info. I am going to try adding crystals and see what happens before going ahead and ordering special hurricane wax. Top, you also mentioned in a thread way back in August that when you were trying to embed a photo into a hurricane these crystals have a high cloud point and it was difficutl to see what was going on, so I guess I will also have to see how I get on with the whole embedding and positioning of photos etc. Still I will give it a shot.

Please help, For the past two hours I have been reading all I can about translucent crystals and trying to raise the MP of wax, but still need some clarification. I use a paraffin wax from Sasol, no additives, it has a MP of only 133F. I recently bought some hurricane moulds from Peaks and would like to have a go at making some photo canes. I also purchased some Translucent crystals which are supposed to raise the melt point of wax. Do these crystals help in hardening the wax and are they the same kinda additive as Clear Crystals? Just one more thing - do I or do I not add stearin to my wax when making a hurricane? Thanks so much for any advice given.

I found this LX wicking chart which shows Flame Height, Pool Diameter etc. when using the LX wicks and found it quite interesting.

Now I realise that all waxes, FO´s etc behave differently and we all need to test, test, test, but when it states that an LX28 should give a pool diameter of 3.5" and the flame height is 2.4" then I have steered clear of this size for my 3" pillars for the time being. I did try an LX26 once, but even when I trimmed the wick it was just too big of a flame. I am in no way suggesting that large wicks are not the right size, just wanted to put this info out there.:tiptoe:

If that is your first foray into rustics, then congratulations on some awesome pillars. I am battling with the LX series at the moment, although LX24 works pretty well in my 3" pillars.
