  1. I Use USPS for all of my smaller Boxes and UPS for larger Orders. I Have had so many problems with Fed Ex and actualy getting MY own packages. Seems that they can't find my House, and as a result have delivered literally dozens of boxes to someone else's house that i have never been able to retrive. Whenever someone tells me they are shipping fedEx, i always say, "let me give you a different Address"

  2. Fragrance oils react faster in smelly jelly's than they do wax and soap.. nauture of the beast. And FO that contains Vanilla will become darker and evenually turn brown because of it. Some more quickly than others.

That could be! I mixed banana and a little vanilla. Hopefully someone can say for sure but since we both experienced it with vanilla added, I bet you are right!! That stinks thought because it smelled yummy! :)

    Thanks for the reply.

  3. Well, You can Slice them with a Heat knife, but you have to be really careful about keeping the temp perfect. I know of some who use a sawblade to slice thru slices, again, have to watch the temp. There is a moldmaker who makes slice molds (www.rosescandles.com) and (www.scottcrew.com) I've tried using all of these methods and the one thing they have in common is that since the Gel wax remains exposed, in unvariably "leaks" as is the tendency of Gel wax when not contained. Since you don't actually Melt gel, only heat it to change it's viscosity to something pourable, when it left uncontained in a warm environment, like a home.. it will have a more tendancy to run. SO what looks great on Day 1 will not be the same on Day 30.

  4. Instead of Glycerin i used

Cocamidopropyl betaine, Works like a charm.

Looks like you don't have enough SLS and totally lack glycerin (it helps matain the bubbles...I think)

try this: This is the first recipe that I tried, it worked so I just stuck with it. ; )

    1 cup baking soda

    1 cup SLS

    1/3 cup liquid glycerin

1/3 Cup Cream of Tartar (or corn starch)

    Fragrance and color

I'll sometimes add a little grapeseed oil (say, sub three T or so Glycerin for grapeseed oil), and have never tried citric acid myself.

I found this recipe online over a year ago, forgot where, but it works well. I do bars that are about 4.5 oz 1/3 bar gives a good bubble bath, 1/2 bar will bubble like crazy. I left water in the tub to see how long they would last once I got out and they were still there hours later. I don't think that I will try a full bar, heh.

The bars are dense, and need to be sliced, rather than just breaking a chunk off.

  5. Definatly look at the area you are in, i was at a show a few weeks ago ( one that i have done for 10 years) we Zippered up the side walls and put the weights on the tent (show is on a boardwalk right next to the bay, so wind is a problem) well we went to check on the booth at 11pm because i am paranoid, everything was still standing.. Arrived back at 9 am the next morning to open up and 3 of my brand new sides had been slashed with a knife or something. No product taken. Atleast 15 vendors got vandled at the show.. so definatly look at what type of security they will be offering and at the area you are in..

  6. The jars look great. love the labels. I am new, can you tell me you how you make them. great work. Lisa

Labels are basic, i use the address lables from avery, because i love simplicity, i change the styles often, to suit my mood. Find a graphic, and the add the necessary info. (business name and addy) easy, simplistic and fun :)

  7. Thanks for the link, Fern-Marie. I went there and read a little bit and will go back to read more. I did read the recipe & it is almost the same except instead of the salt I used the vodka. I wasn't planning to use the garden version since I have more than enough of what I bought from BCS. However, I haven't noticed any problem with the plastic covers----yet! How long before they melt? What do you use instead?

I'm a bit confused, what are you you trying to get with these?

  8. Not sure if all of California is having this but my area is not selling lye. I finally asked one store. They said because CRACK is made from it and didn't want to sell it because of future problems. Who thought to put lye in your mouth...LOL

I guess they want to destroy something when they take crack cocaine. Now I know what the smell is they keep talking about coming out of homes that are crack houses. So now all you soapers are going to have DEA breaking down your doors...LOL

So if any knows a chain that sells Lye I would love to know. Even Walmart isn't carring it.

Thechemistrystore.com has a good price on it, just need to fill out the hazmat forms if buying a bunch.

  9. I sell the square mason for 6 bucks, 2 for 10 and 5 for $20.

It is $1.50 for me to make them. I don't carry them in a whole lot of scents so I can make them in bulk. Many fundraisers for me.

I wouldn't do them at all but some people want a candle instead of a tart.

I sell them online for $6, my shopping cart doesn't do the 2-10 deal, so I don't offer it there.

My competition sells the jj for the same price, but hers are soy. I don't know how much it costs her though, she buys in bulk also. Since we are in the same building we agreed to sell them at the same price.

HI, circle e, our candle and village candle are also in the same building.

I only make one size, with one kind of wax and use a couple of wicks (if I have too, of course). If it is a bugger to wick, I just don't make it in candles.

Perhaps you can have your mom sell tarts for you at work, that way you can get them hooked on your wonderful scents and then they will buy your more expensive than hi candles cause they will already know they are better than HI. You would be able to sell them much cheapers as you don't need as much.

    I sell mine $1.00 each 12 for 10

    I'm with Nana's

I sell my 8oz square 6/$25, but i but in bulk and sell in vast volume. There are 3 sides to sales, sell low, with vast turnover. Sell high, less turnoever, more money for the effort, or find the middle range.. only you can decide

  10. As with all items, it's a matter of personal taste, if you are completely satisfied with what you are currently using, why bother changing? I think many people on this board find that products that other companies offer do not fit our needs, be it fragrance, soap bubbles , moisturizing..or price range. All up to the one who is ultimatly using the product, and enjoying it

  11. (although I didn't call the FO naffydoodle) - can someone enlighten me as to what a snickerdoodle is and also suggest a new name for the oil?

Snickerdoodles are a Cookie, Basically a Sugar Cookie base with added cinnamon to the mix. When made you roll the mix into a ball and coat with a cinnamon sugar mix , they smell soo good.. www.candlesoylutions.com has an awesome FO

  12. You should be proud of yourself that is some nice work!!!! WOW you are busy....do you only prefer to do clamshell tarts and container candles? I just didnt see any pillars.

    Jenn :highfive:

Those pics are from an outdoor show i do in August.. It's right on the beach, and the heat starts kicking up to the mid 90's, so i don't take anything that could melt.. learned my lesson afer i lost a couple hundred votives. Even the soy jar candles have been known to start to melt at that show, but sales are too good to pass up.

  13. The soap tins are gift basket style, each one has something different in it. The buckets are my botanical potpourri. I've been thinking about getting longer table cloths, but since i get into the boxes so frequently.. Boxes under the table are not empty, they are stock not yet put out.
