  1. (Edited) Their blueberry cobbler is the best i have ever found and squirly nut is awesome.
  2. i buy the 2 quart pitchers from the dollar store. they usually come with a colorful lid. just for safety i set them inside another plastic container in case of spill. never had a problem, cheap and easy, so i can have several batches of lye water cooling overnight to work with in the morning.
  3. Sweet Strawberry is the best.... i have a zillion other fo suppliers, but this is one i cannot live without
  4. Chocolate, as well as other sugar based candies absorb fragrance that is placed around them. That;s why you should never make candle baskets that contain candies. It doesn't take very long (less than 12 hours) for the candy to take on the fragrance.
  5. Raising the price for the candles to cover the 20% is not unreasonable. actually it's an advantage to any customer who can buy in store and not have to pay for the shipping that it would cost them if they ordered from the website. My ebay and website items cost more that items i have at my market store. I make al of my internet items to order vs items i have instock that may be displayed for weeks
  6. Laugh, Be Fun and entertaining. This Works mostly if you are selling face to face. I've been doing craft shows for 15 years, and the best wisdom i can impart to everyone is. BE happy. I did a show in december where the other 50 vendors at there made barely( or less) than their booth fee ($25) my sales were over $3000. People like to buy from happy people. Not someone who is sitting behind a table glaring and not paying attention to their customers. Laugh, Talk, share Jokes.. I chatter constantly at my booth, and i joke about the fact that i do so.. who would you rather buy from, someone who is sitting in their booth doing a crossword, reading a booking, working on stuff for "the next show" or someone, who looks you in the eye and says " Hi, how are you today?".. Don't ask in they want to smell a candle.. say. "this is an awesome fragrance, you gotta smell it" don't shove it in the nose. Just Put it in smelling distance. Focus less on the selling element and more on showing off how much fun your products are. When people see your passion for the items that you sell, in a more relaxed , fun environment, they are much more likely to buy. And Yes, that's why i am still online at 2am.. I just finished my work for the day. A new wholesale customer ordered 500 candle pies that i have to finish my Thursday.. A SMILE and Laugh work wonders..
  7. some jokes, you should keep to yourself
  8. That is way too much writing on the lable. People want to see the colors and beauty if the candle, not have a book about it's maker on their coffee table. The front part looks good. That's all you need, a good picture describing your fragrance. If you need to have a bar code, move it to the bott0m where the warning lable is. if it's in a 16 oz jar, their will be plenty of room along with all the burning instructions.
  9. i have worked with the sweetcakes version of vanilla lace in CP soap and the one from Natures garden is better.. i had less discoloration and the fragrance is stronger after a 6 week cure.
  10. I am desperiatly looking for this mold, I know i have seen it before.. but i can't find it now. Anyone know who makes it? http://www.candlecountry.net/catalog/item/1955754/2006647.htm#image_1 it's 6" across , weighing in at over 24 oz..THanks
  11. I use it alot and yes, if often turns colors. The quickeness with which it darkens can vary by your location. High humidity in MD causes my vanillas to darken quicker than the dry heat my sister has in CA. I always just explain to my customers why it happens. never had anyone who really cared.. they just love the feel.
  12. Those are some very pretty Pillars you've got there, and i love the way you've taken the picture!
  13. Looks good, I just love themed baskets!
  14. The Problem with Shipping things to people, is assuming that they are honest. Most aren't. Everyone is out for the buck and will do anything to get more $$ than they are entitled to. I Have seen more than one occasion when the recipient of a package is trying to say the an item was broken, damaged.. etc.. when asked for proof. they can provide none. As for insurance from the PO, i never purchase it anymore, because i have yet to see them reimburse me for the other previous claims i have filed with them. Including one where the candles were obviously taken out of the box, and the box was repacked with used car parts.. which my customer recieved.
  15. AS Vicky Said, a big Pair of sissors will do you wonders. I've cut up Hundreds of pounds of Gel for my roaster that way.. also a great way to make "ice cubes" out of gel. We take colored/scented gel, cut into pieces and then overpour for some of our "parfait" candles.
  16. I had a problem like this a few years ago. The Buyer said that the box they got contained used car parts when i had sent them over $200 in candles. USPS said it was not their problem, even though the box was insured. I ended up replacing the candles, 'cause it was cheaper than taking the paypal hit. I wish i had better advice to offer. The situation sucks, because i think the majority of the time, the reciever of the box is lying, since they never want to take the box to be verified.
  17. Try using Orange Fo/EO on your hands. It often helps to remove unwanted fragrances.
  18. People who stick their fingers in the smell jellies while they are walking by.. we call it "Walk by fingering"lol, closely followed by those who insist on turning these same jars upside down..after i tell them they contain liquid.
  19. 2 YEARS AGO, i let some on my "friends" take 20 dozen or so of my candles for resale. I'd known them for years and at the time, well, they worked for the same company as my mom did.. They needed some extra income and iwas trying to help, They were suppost to pay me for the candles,9 months later, but i let it slide, since they worked with my mom and i figured they needed a bit of help. i Then they both got fired and i lost track of them.. NOW I found out a few months ago,, Got a call from someone who purchsed 96 candles from them @$1.00 EACh. WHAT DO I DO NOW? I know everyone will say approach them.. but HOW? I've spent the last 6 months tracking them down,, i do have what i think is an address..should i proceed?
  20. 12 years now. quiet success. it's the best.. no one knows me.. untill they actually find me. the best kept secrets
  21. Seems that those who spend the least are those that complain the most.
  22. To Clarify, YOU always have the right to refuse payment from someone. YOU OWN The goods you are selling and you have the right to decline a sale at ANY point. How far you will go to protect your rights is your own decision. I have been the victim of someone who used their own credit card to make a purchase and then had "buyers remorse" and filed a chargeback. The credit card companies back the buyer.. remember that when you take a card. Thats why those who accept cards get fees when someone can't remember that they charged something. This was brought up recently, Protect YOUR own RIGHTS and allow charges as you see fit.
  23. I Have a $25.00 Minimum For Charge Purchases and have never once had someone question it. I do Craft shows and call in all of my cards on the spot, due to numerous cases of rejected cards. It's simply not worth my time to call in for such a small amount. You always have the right to refuse to accept any non-cash form a payment from someone, including checking the bills for counterfit. You do not have to accept a check or credit card from someone who you think may be making an attempt to give you a bad cc number or a bad check.
