  1. Hey, just saying hi, I'm in the Philly burbs!! Go into Center City all the time. :-)
  2. I bought a slab and tested it. I'm on the fence. My supplier told me to pour at 180 but I had severe cracking at the top. I also had some wetspots, not the normal kind but it looked like the FO bled out and formed droplets on the inside of the glass. Cold and hot throw were awesome but also had some smoking. While testing this, I poured/tested J50 and J300 using the same exact variables, and found that the others didn't have the bleeding issue. I think if I poured the Harmony Blend at a cooler temp, maybe it wouldn't have been a problem. Anyway, like I said, I'm on the fence. I will probably mix it next time around and see what happens. Also, I used CD wicks. I haven't tested with HTP yet. HTH!
  3. I know the scent throw is pretty decent but I have not had a lot of luck with this wax. I get major frosting no matter what temp I pour at, and regardless of scent, even preheating jars. I mixed 50/50 with Comfort Blend and not much better. I actually just got a slab each of Harmony Blend, J50 and J300, because I was so frustrated with 1275. J300 with a little vybar is working out beautifully and the burn tests have been great too. I just poured 50/50 of 1275 and J50, so after the cure I'll light one up and let you know how it goes, if interested. :-)
  4. Those are great... I love the tilted layers too. It's funny what Mtngirl said about which colors to put next to each other, because one of my previous batches was the same as yours. I like it because it has a sunset feel to it and looks a little more artistic. But have to do what the bride wants. :-) Just curious, where did you get those molds?
  5. Thank you for the feedback... this weekend I premixed batches of each color, 4lbs at a time, poured into a roasting pan. I was really worried about keeping the colors consistent and thought this would do the trick. They popped out easily. I'll just hack off however much I need of each color to do a batch of layers, remelt and pour. I have remelted in the past without any adverse effects on the integrity of the wax... if anyone has any input/experience with remelts going badly, please let me know? Thanks again. :-)
  6. Thanks, I have to do 300 of these so I really needed to get it down pat before going into production mode! :smiley2:
  7. This is 4th attempt, and I think I finally got it right. Using 4761 with NG Candy Corn FO. I absolutely love this wax, it is so easy to work with and burn tests went great. Can't say enough about the scent throw either. Thanks for looking. :-)
  8. I looked up words that had to do with candles (light, flame, etc) in foreign language dictionaries and found "iluminare" which I think is Portuguese (can't remember). It got a lot of attention and people seem to dig it. :-)
  9. This is an interesting idea. I don't know much about the test chimneys but I'll read up on them. I'll poke around at Lowe's and see if I can find some comparable materials. I too noticed that a lot of the anti-paraffin arguments were repeated throughout different websites. Part of me can't help but think that the controversy has more to do with market share than with "protecting" people from potentially dangerous emissions. I'll keep investigating and let you know if I find anything worth discussing. Thanks!
  10. I have been doing some reading about the health risks of petroleum-based waxes. It's hard to know what is truth and what is propaganda, since some of the info comes from soy proponents. Does anyone have concrete information on whether or not soy is actually healthier for people's breathing, etc? I do wonder sometimes, as I'm pouring away and sniffing all the different FOs, if I'm damaging my lungs. Thanks for your opinions/thoughts. :-)
  11. Thanks to those who shared your opinions! The reason I asked is because I am trying to get away from the wetspots and frosting, I don't think that was too general, and I wonder is it wrong to just ask what other people are doing... sometimes you get an idea you might not have thought of otherwise. Thanks for the link, I will read it over. :-)
  12. I'm sure this has already been discussed... I've searched but haven't found much of what I'm looking for. If you could humor me and tell me why you like your chosen container wax or blend, I would appreciate it. I'm through with the blend I'm using now (comfort blend/par-veg blend, 50/50) and planning to order a couple different slabs to test. Looking at 1288B, 4630A, and 4786. My biggest complaint right now is frosting/wetspots happening together. They'll look great for about a week and then BOOM, ugliness! Blah!!! I am the point when I'm actually testing 1343 in a jar. Many thanks!!
  13. Any reviews of this wax? It is supposed to be comparable to J223. Thanks in advance! :-)
  14. The pins go on the outside of the mold. I have the problem with wobbling a little, too. I know my supplier has trays you can use to hold everything nice and even but I haven't bought them yet. :-)
  15. I have been doing the same thing as Blue Diamond and it seems to be working really well for me. Pour at 155, zap the jars with a heat gun and I've cut down the wetspots by about 75%. Then again, it's summertime so I don't have the cold air to contend with!
  16. Oh and P.S., no FO was used this time. We'll see what happens with that next time.
  17. I poured straight 1343 at about 180, let set till a skin formed on the top and sides. Used blue and green liquid dyes, and tipped each just enough so a drop would, well, DROP slowly to the bottom of the mold. Here's how it turned out. I kind of like the the way the mottling formed. I'll probably never be able to reproduce again. LOL
