  1. If the jar's not too tall, I just set mine on a candle warmer and let it melt the wax down for me.
  2. In addition to the above tips, you might want to make sure your mold is sparkling clean to begin with too. I just pour boiling hot water into my molds then wipe with a paper towel to clean off excess wax gunk. Some folks put molds in a hot oven with a drip tray underneath to catch wax, then wipe w/ paper towels to clean. Use potholders -- ack, the molds get hot!! There may be some wax build-up inside your molds that may be causing the candles to not release all smooth and shiny. HTH :-)
  3. Maybe you could post your recipe? Maybe your lye calcs were a wee bit off? Just an idea. Although I don't do a 100% lard soap, I do one that's almost 100%, and it gets hard PDQ! LOL
  4. Since some oxides / ultramarines are water dispersable, and some are better in oil, I mark the container as soon as I get it with a large "W" or "O" so I don't forget. LOL Another thing you can do. If you want to use a powder colorant in only PART of a batch, you can smoosh the powder into a dab of glycerin and add it to the swirl portion (or the main batter portion). Works for me.
