Yes, with the right wicks it's been no problem.  However, my jars are a little over 3" diameter. I should also add that I always need to fix the tops of the candles after they're done cooling, to fix the dip that CBL129 causes.  Well worth the few extra minutes, though.

Yeah, 129 does some serious dipping in containers, the throw is worth it though. I think I'll give that mix a go later, I'm assuming you're using HTP / CD? From my memory I remember you mention those series in several wax threads I've read over time.

I experimented with so many wax combinations, it's not funny.  Drove myself even battier than I already am, lol

I gave up on 4630 and 4627; I just wasn't impressed with them, either on their own or combined with other waxes - and I believe I probably tried every single combination! 😂

I now mix CBL129 with 6006.  I also use Joywax with very good results.  Frankly, I was surprised with the Joywax; really thought I would have a bad experience with it.... not at all.  In my experience Joywax works best with HTP wicks.

That's an interesting mix, 129 and 6006. Are you able to get a good clean burn in anything around 3" diameter? I had to give up with those waxes because of the high melt point.

  3. I contacted CS to see what they said about this, and they said the reason is due to poor sales. Then proceeded to tell me that I should use CD / Eco instead and they don't even know what waxes I use LOL. This is the problem with them, they are just a good facade for noobs and it looks like that's where their main business is. I don't use anything from them anymore, although I am testing the new soy wax for melts / pillars but that's about it.

There are other series, just not easily accessible in smaller quantities.  V series, for example.

Is there a size that would work well for 3" diameter containers in general? I'm thinking about biting the bullet on a big bag so I can at least spend some quality time testing that wax. I figured there probably isn't many instances where you'd need a different size because you use such a small amount of FO.

For those who use HTP, I heard from a supplier that HTP wicks have changed due to covid supply chain issues. Definitely check all of your new HTP wicks in your wax before you release candles.

this is all getting really old isn’t it?

Yes, it’s just one thing after another. It’s getting to the point now where it’s not worth trying to perfect a candle recipe for me because everything keeps changing and being horribly inconsistent. As long as I can do power burns for hours on end without any huge flames and smoke that’s good enough for me now.

  6. For around 3" diameter with 464 I used CD10 for lower fragrance loads, and CD12 for 10% load. If you use dyes then you'd probably need the next size up.

TallTayl already gave you the lowdown on everything else.

As far as the hot throw goes, the quality of 464 / 444 and the likes has gone to absolute crap lately, you're not guaranteed to get good smelling candles out of it.

The only soy that is usable to me if I'm desperate is C3. I've had one bad batch in recent times and all of the rest have been great.

    Saaaaaaaame.

between the supply chain interruptions and everyone becoming Martha Stewart this year it has been super challenging. Price gouging has been brutal.

Can't stop laughing because it's so true, I can't even imagine how much money all the candle supply stores have been making during this pandemic, must be a sickening amount.

I find the mason jars at Walmart sometimes, I know not all of them carry the same stuff so might have to go around a couple different stores but I haven't seen a huge problem getting them lately here on the East Coast.

I have 2 kinds. Like the one talltayl has and an embossing heat gun or craft heat gun which I use. It gets plenty hot and it’s not heavy. Joanns had them at one point.🌸

That's exactly what I have, I keep the little one at my desk when I'm playing with wicking and use the Wagner for the workshop.

I won't keep a bigger one at my desk, if you accidentally touch the end after heating some candles you can get some VERY nasty burns.

I've poured some testers and tested after 3 days. I tested 2 scents so far and got mixed results.
For instance...Moon Lake Musk (CS) which to me and my nose is on the lighter side, threw like a champ for 12+ hrs in a large living/dining room area, into the kitchen and down the hallway. It blew me away.
Blueberry Cobbler (CS) which seemed super strong OOB, on the other hand, didn't do so well. I barely got 6 hrs out of it. Then again, Blueberry scents don't do well for me as it is so I wasn't surprised.

So for now I'll say...I don't hate it. LOL
I have several more scents poured and plan on testing them. I believe it's in the FO's not the wax.

It would be a great wax for those looking go go the "natural" route. It's easy to work with too. Sets up nice. I love the creaminess of it. :)

I tested some fruity stuff and cotton candy and the throw was just 'meh', but like you said, it was so easy to use, I poured at like 140 and the tops were literally perfect in clamshells. Maybe I'll give it another go adding the FO lower at around 160 and see how that goes.

CS has a new Soy Pillar/Votive wax out  that can also be used for tarts/melts...and I'm excited to try it. I just got my sample bag yesterday and getting ready to pour some testers. Has anyone else ordered this?

That looks exactly like the Soy wax I have bought from Northwood in the past. I'll be honest it made very nice looking melts, but the HT was just so-so.

So I just emailed Atkins & Pearce and see what they say. Something I have done that improved the wicks is that oven them and primed them with wax after, it seems to have helped but still the odd ones that came with the dimmed flame. I have invested all the time and money into this now and I cant seem to turn back :(

You don't even want to know how much time and money I wasted on wooden wicks trying to get something consistent, it's just not going to happen with the crap ones available. Maybe in the future we will get some decent primed ones again.

ErronB, thanks for your response to the OP! I found it very helpful as well. I was thinking about trying ProBlemd 650 but will probably hold off since I still have some Pillar of Bliss left. You seem to have strong feelings against some of the ProBlend waxes - curious if that extends to ProBlend 400? I’m considering doing some trials of it along with soy, possibly Midwest Soy. I came across it while looking for a wax that’s majority paraffin.

ProBlend 400 has a great hot throw, but I couldn't get a clean burn from it without adding soy, the flames were too huge even with small HTP wicks. I like 4630 better for a straight paraffin, myself. It's a good blender, too (I was able to get rid of a lot of 464 soy by blending and it was pretty nice.)

The 600 and 650 are both aesthetically pleasing, but I'd say about half of my fragrances I have to use didn't throw worth a crap in either of them so they were useless. But if that's not a problem for you, and you're able to keep testing new scents to find the strong ones then they can be great. For instance I can use Flaming Candle's Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow and the hot throw is so strong I can smell it at the other end of the house. But others will fall flat on their arse and bumping the FO load didn't work at all.

Of course, this is all just from my experience, everyone uses completely different scents and has different techniques so they might work out better for you.

  13. Joy Wax is definitely not the same as ProBlend 600, they both wick differently. Joy Wax is really easygoing with CD, ProBlend isn't great with any wicks in particular. They both have good adhesion and smooth tops, crap batches often, mediocre HT with a lot of fragrances, and are really greasy feeling, that's about all they share.

Pillars Of Bliss might be the same as ProBlend 650, but I'm not 100% because it's been so long since I used it. I know that I used KY parasoy / tart mix once from RE and it was literally identical to ProBlend 650 I couldn't tell the difference.

  14. I tested every single wick in this test and not one made it to the bottom of the tin without smoking and big flames, had to stop them. Tried with 6 and 8% load, dye and no dye. I found that the only way I can get 6006 to clean burn these days is to add some soy. Which is really annoying because it adds something else to the equation and I don’t keep soy around much anymore.
