I've been doing CP for years and always have to test the FOs, of course, to see if they work well.
Lately, I've been getting into melt & pour and I was wondering if you have to test (I wouldn't think so). I mean, I know you may not like a scent if you haven't bought it before, but in theory, any FO that is soap safe should work fine in MP, right?
I know there is the possibility of discoloration, but that's the only drawback I can come up with.
Thanks for any advice!

Russ and I have been doing parallel research on this and I've decided, personally, that this is the way for me to go, too. I came to that conclusion a day or so ago.
I'm also going to be "fussy" about who we will be passing them out to. I plan to put the pot (Please! No confusion here. . . lol !!!) in 3"X3" zip lock bags with a lable attached to the bag with all of the pertinent stuff I want and need to say.
Thanks, Marilyna!
Dave
Your way sounds easier than how I did it. I used a little round label I punched out with a paper punch. It was adorable, but not the quickest. And I didn't have any room for ingredients.

I like using lip balm pots for lotion samples. They're pretty cheap and have about the right amount for a sample.

Forgot to review one. Sex on the Beach (was gonna change that name). It came out really lightly scented, plus it turned brown. Won't order that one again.

I have Red oxide (blue shade). Do you think that will give a good burgundy?
-
Hey Shar,
How did you color your Fantasy soap? I want to soap it in the next couple of days. I was debating on whether just to make it the pink-burgundy color of the perfume bottle or swirl in some green & white like the package of the perfume.

Those are all just stunning!!

Here are my results after cure:
Note that I hand stir all FOs in and try to work fast in case. I also use 33% lye solution and soap as soon as lye water turns clear
Lemongrass - still wonderful after cure, no discoloration
Sun Washed Linen - very strong, no issues soaping -did a swirl - no discolor - smells like laundry detergent
Fresh Cut Roses - got a little thick at end of pour, no discolor - smells like a bouquet of roses, including the greenery
Sage & Citrus - no acceleration or discolor (but I colored the soap, so not positive) - definitely smells like a man scent, not really citrusy, but I like it
Kumquat - no acceleration or discolor - smells like very fresh oranges. Smells strong after cure. Love it
OMH - no acceleration, did discolor to tan - smells almondy - love it!
True Lavender - No accel, but I did work fast in case - No discolor. Smells like the real thing - could have been a hair stronger, but good enough
Cucumber Melon - No accel, no discolor. Smells mostly like cucumber - can't detect much melon
Twilight - No accel - was able to swirl - no discolor that I could tell, but I colored it heavily

So pretty

Love Bitter Creek's base!

cut Pictures? It's still really beautiful. Sorry it didn't turn out green!
-
Love them. They're so pretty! and I also love your labels!

I soaped the Lemongrass today and it did great. No acceleration (but I do always hand-stir in my FOs). Smells wonderful and the house is full of the scent. Seems really strong. I think it may be slightly different than the real EO, because it smells warmer/better somehow.

Oh, good! I ordered a 1 oz of that and will use it for an oatmeal soap. Now I wish I had ordered a big one!

Hey Charley,
Yeah, I didn't even think 1 oz pp was enough, so upped to 1.5 oz ppo. I did check the website and it says it can be used up to 13.3%. Of course, who wants to use that much? Too expensive! I think you may not get much scent at .5 oz.
Oh, and the site says it's been reformulated, so what I had may not even be the same as what you have. I last soaped it 6 years ago. I did really love that scent, though, and it sold well. Good luck! Hope the scent comes back for you.
-
I don't use it anymore, but at the time 1 oz ppo didn't seem strong enough. Now I wouldn't advise using that much, probably over the guidelines.
-
Thanks for the pic! I'll probably avoid that one. I don't like brown soap too much. I would have guessed the OMH would have turned brown, too.

How dark does the Butt Naked get? Thanks for the info!

Charley,
I've CP'ed BCN's Victorian Rose many times and it was a bestseller for me, but I did have to move fast and I did have to up the FO to 1.5 oz per pound.
-
Shar,
Thanks so much for the input! I've ordered a few 1 ozers to test and I will post what I find out.
From the Scent Review Board these were recommended for CP:
Sun Washed Linen - Really strong
Kumquat
Fresh Cut Roses
Sage & Citrus
Lemongrass
Orange Canteloupe
Cucumber Melon
I ordered all those except Orange canteloupe (they were out) in 4 oz size. Hope the reviews were right!
-
I guess no one has tested them. Shoot! Well, I'll post my results when I'm done.
-
I wonder why the properties of oils would be relevant anyway, since after the reaction with the lye they are no longer oils, but soap.

HI,
I was wondering if anyone has used Candle Source FOs in CP. I did go through the review on the Soap Scent Review Board, but only found 7 that worked great in CP.
So, I thought some of you may know of some others that are strong and don't accelerate trace too badly.
Thanks for your help!

I also use CP on my 50 year old face. It's wonderful and honestly, I do look really young for my age. At least that's what I get told pretty often. I use Tallow, Canola, Soybean, Coconut, Shea & Cocoa Butters in my soap.
Do you have to test FOs in Melt & Pour soap?
in Melt & Pour

Scented,
that was'nt the type of testing I was referring to at all. i meant testing a one ouncer before knowing if you want to buy a whole pound of it.
