i was testing one at work about a month ago with a smaller core candle and yup....it caught on fire. i thought for sure i was going to get fired. mind you i kept checking it and saw the potpourri getting closer to the flame as it fell from the melted wax and left it to see what would happen now that i'm making them with a 2" core i haven't had any problems. i have warned my customers but they still want them.

thanks everyone. i am currently working with (or hoping to anyway) with an organization that helps families deal with all kinds of cancer. i am making a few samples to show and hopefully they will want to help me sell. I again want to sell for $12 or $15 and donate $5 per candle. i'm doing rustics in the colours that represent each type of cancer. just gotta figure out a way to put their logo on (this was requested by them). another idea is to make a candle for one of the children's hospitals here to raise money to help the sick kids. i just need an idea for an easy candle.

personally i think i've been underpricing all of my candles. for these snow hurricanes - i have been suggesting to alot of people to take pics of their kids wearing Santa hats and i'll make them one

thanks everyone :smiley2: kalamazoo and scat - i made it like a regular hurricane. i filled up my mold with wax, waited a little while and then dunked the napkin in and wrapped it around the inside. it was a little too short so i had to cut another piece - it is overlapping a bit so i would need to measure it properly if i make another one. i don't make my hurricanes with an insert so it does take a long time to get to the thickness i want. this is a big 6 x 6.5" hurricane and i'm not brave enough to pick it up to put in a water bath. i use a water bath for the smaller 4 x 4.5" hurricanes.

thanks everyone seaglass - now that you mention it, this hurricane is my 2nd one as the napkin did tear on the first one.

i used 4" and 3" ball molds and then stuck them together with whipped wax

it is a 3" round pillar with a 2" core. i just stuffed the potpourri between the mold and the core candle. it kind of works like a hurricane because only the core candle burns so the potpourri glows

thank you!! i started with a small 4" x 4.5" hurricane and used different pictures. i am also making one with my 2 kids wearing santa claus hats. then i whipped up more wax, used my heat gun on my exacto knife and made scratches all over the hurricane (don't know if this was necessary or not but have been doing them like this) so the whipped wax would have something to stick to. after putting all the 'snow' on i put on some glitters.

i had to cut the napkin quite a bit. the snow hurricanes are 4" x 4.5". guess this would be better on a bigger hurricane

i make these with all different colours of potpourri. i have tested these over and over and they burn really nice.

this is the only one i have made so far. i found some really nice napkins at the dollar store so i tried to make a hurricane with the napkin going all the way around. it has some problem areas but looks awesome lit up. i scented the hurricane itself Mocha Espresso

hi everyone. i got permission from the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation to use the pink ribbon to make my candles. i am selling them for $12 (probably will raise that to $15 tho) and i am donating $5 from each candle for breast cancer research. one of my co-workers does stained glass and she is also making ribbons. i just wanted to show you my candles and our table at a craft fair a few weeks ago.
