    Welcome to Craft Server!

We should start a club for those of us who are in our 60's! I just turned 65 but still think I am in my 30s. My body says otherwise! LOL

Your story about soap and candles reminded me I started out making candles and now I am focusing on soap as the main core of my biz. I still make candles but only during the fall/holiday season so I have some now.

Does the US gov't start paying you when you reach 65?  I am now on the Cdn Government payout lol... In Canada they keep raising the child benefit....but not the Pension... I'm trying to talk my wife into having some more kids to take the monetary advantage!! lol.. Oh god no!!  *shudder*

    It's like a soap opera!

Easy for me to say, I'm sure, since I never used anything from them.... Hits a little harder for those that depended on them as part of their business supply chain.

Either way, a good read and a reminder that it's important to never have all your eggs in one basket. 😦

Sorry, I didn't want to re-open the topic, just wanted to point Gary in the right direction! *hiding*

    Thanks Sarah....point taken.. :(

Did you read the threads on Peak at all Gary?

you may want to check them out...he needs help with more than a website 😂🙈...just my opinion

I did check a small sample of them out now...lol.  but I don't feel like reading 32?? threads. Geez...I guess I jumped the gun..sorry bout that.

Looks like everybody is upset with the way Peak closed...I only bought from them once..but it's too expensive for me with Canadian $$$ and duties..etc..etc..

I did like their old website though..with their top 20 FO's and descriptions.  Our suppliers up here have similar FO's, but description is non existent.

Thanks Trappeur...we had a real estate agent looking for this type of house for years...he just didn't get it!!  I found our house on the internet and fell in love with it...1 1/2 acres, surrounded by farm fields!! It is cosy, and full of charm.  We love it, but it's not everybodies cup of tea lol.  Certain times of year, when it's humid or certain temps, we do get that old musty smell..so that's how I got into candles, and other means of fragrance lol..  The roof you see in the upper left hand corner is a covered deck...there is an outbuilding/mancave/warehouse with a deck attached.  It would be a great place to add a "studio" haha..for making crafts!

Oh...and keep looking for your dream country home...I'm sure you will find it!!

  5. Zazzle...that was it.  I don't sell any candles (yet)..lol...but I love making them, and have tried different ways of labeling them for give aways to friends.  I've tried clear labels for inkjet printers that were supposed to be smudge free...but they aren't.  Were we bottle our wine, he has a small label machine that he creates custom labels with through the computer..they are awesome, but I'm sure it might be a little costly to start..

OMG Gary!   Love love love your farmhouse!.....It's sooo me.. I've been searching the internet for a little farmhouse for myself when I move back to Maine which should be this coming year.  Oh it is so charming your home.   My favorite home is a board and batten which I see yours is and my most favorite tree is a pine, but especially the Blue Spruce which I see is in your front yard.   And that white picket fence is just oh so romantic and cozy....In the upper left hand corner of the picture is a roof to something...what?   I can just imagine the inside.  When you going to post those pictures? lol  Thanks for sharing Gary.....

Love your farmhouse ,looks so cozy .I will post mine as soon as I can get some free time 😁 Do diffusers work well ? I have always wanted to make these .I know sounds like a dumb question but what kind of fragrance oils do you use to make the diffusers? I have zero knowledge on these lol. Thought maybe essential oils idk ????Help and thank you bunches .

Thanks Kat...looking forward to seeing your farmhouse too... I bought the reeds (inexpensive) from our local supplier...I mix it with the reed diffuser base 25% fragrance and 75 base..but you only make up a small amount,...pour it into a small narrow  bottle of some sort..and add about 8 reeds.  I stir it every couple of days, and turn the reeds over about once a week.  Right now I have had this going in our entrance way for about a month!  The fragrance I used for that one was Maple Sugar from New Directions, which is very strong. It is a welcoming scent when you come home and open the door and you have that Maple Syrup type smell.  You can use any FO or EO... I have the "Diffuser Base" but it can get a little costly so I bought a bottle of safflower oil which is supposed to work good too...although I haven't tried it yet.

  8. Sorry..I don't use 464..but i know all the Soy waxes have changed..I have tested Q210 from EcoSoya and am having trouble finding the right wick..and from what others are saying, the 464 has changed too.  Soy is just a mess right now... You might want to try the tip I just learned on this forum recently... Pour a jar without the wick....let it set for a day or so...use a skewer to create a "wick hole"...cut off the tab from your wick of choice...insert the wick..test it and if it doesn.t work..try the next size up or down...Or use a different series.  Works great.

@Gary in Canada they definitely market to the B&B community. I understand they are a major supplier for Lush.

Are you on the east side of Canada then? There are a bunch of great suppliers in Ohio, I don't know if that's day-trip distance for you.

They do supply to a lot of Soapers...and all the reviews are from them...totally different for Candle people... I am actually just north of Toronto...about 3hr from the Canadian/US border.  I have ordered from Peak, and Lone Star. It took a while for the order to get across the border...and was expensive with the $$$$ difference, and duty charges.  It was kind of exciting though to see my supplies travel through out the US before getting to me (order tracking)... My candle supplies took an American tour that I was envious of..lol...

I have never ordered FO from NDA, but I have ordered some B&B supplies from them, and a few essential oils. Their quality is excellent. I recall that their FO prices were very competitive and some other items were great if you buy in the larger quantities. Of course that's true for most suppliers. Don't they have a minimum order requirement though? I think that's what turned me off from them.

They do have a minimum order now Sarah...up here it's $100...otherwise you pay a $20 service charge.  I can save shipping charges because I am in their area twice a week and can actually go into their showroom and smell the FO's...they are the only supplier that is within 2 hours of me..

. I have tried a few of their FO's, and the one that REALLY stands out for me is Maple Sugar...super strong.  I would think it would be a good base for those that like to blend.. Other than that one, most seem to be aimed at Soapers, and 90% of their reviews are from Soap people..so the review's are tough to judge for candles..  I wish there were more Cdn Suppliers...

  11. Hope I'm putting this in the proper thread...but I believe 6006 is a ParaSoy blend??  So if you make a candle with 6006 to sell...can you legally call it a "Soy Candle".??  I only make candles for myself and give aways to friends, my hairstylist, and servers at my local..lol.  But I have bought "soy" candles and Im just wondering if they are 100% soy, because they throw great.  I've been trying to duplicate them without any luck.  Is there any regulations on labelling??

Lmao so funny ,your post made my day ,I laughed so hard I was near tears 😀😀😀How about put a tart burner if you have a plug in the bathroom .I love older homes ,mine was built in 1920.We have been remodeling for 18 years ,never ends .Love it thou .

We are also in an old farmhouse...built around 1900??  It has that "old house musty smell" at certain temps outside...humid days etc..thankfully we don't get the "washroom" smell (except IN the washroom lol.  That's how I got into candle making...have nice scents all the time..We burn a lot of candles!!..I also make some incense, and reed diffusers.

What are some possible causes of the flame being too high? I understand it could mean the wick is too large but what are some other causes? Thank you!

Im no expert...but I believe it could be a different series of wick too...Some burn a lot hotter than others.  The other thing I have noticed, and hopefully more experienced chandlers will chime in here...is the same series, lets say HTP from different suppliers do not perform the same!!  If someone could come up with the perfect formula to say "use this wax...this wick...this fragrance...heat to this temp...and so on..they would have unlimited customers....Im still looking..and trying!
