I have a watermelon I picked up at At Wix End. I've not yet put in wax, but I could give it a try this weekend. It does smell close to a true watermelon.

Ya know, I think I could build one of those with the wires. A trip through a guitar parts catalog is all it would take. That and a good set of tools.... Dang, like I need ANOTHER project....

I showered at my BF house this morning :embarasse and had to climb out of the shower looking for soap, which is odd because I gave him a bar a week ago. And a bar the week before that.
He says, oh your soap only lasts one shower...
Yea get this - after he's done with the bar he DROPS IT TO THE FLOOR AND LEAVES IT THERE!!!! He doesn't pick it up and put it in the soap dish EVER!!!
"But Irish Spring lasts all week that way - there's something wrong with YOUR soap..." And he doesn't want to hear another word about it nor is he willing to change.
So from now on I'm bringing my own soap - and taking it back with me when I go...
I think this is very much related to why my wife went through your soap so fast.... I need to invest in some soap dishes AAAANNNDDD train my wife and kids in their use....

Am I less of a man because swirled soap turns me on ?

Full water for me is 28.7% lye solution.
I've googled in vain for The Soap Doctor trimmer. I went back and found a hand written receipt from 2005 for payment for this trimmer, but there was no company info on it. Here's a picture of the device:
I found a reference, but no info was there. But, on www.archive.org you can use the "way back" machine to look at archived versions of old web sites.
Does this ring a bell? Unfortunately, no pics.

Very pretty, I love your swirls. What colorants did you use?
I'll go ahead and repeat the question, because I'm curious too. What colorants? Oh, in Canadian, What Colourants?

I would leave the clay in, 2 T is not going to be too drying in that size batch. Plus green clay has lots of benefits.
Where's a good place to get the Clay? I've not been on the search for that yet.

Very nice....but, as others have said...pictures are a little too dark.
And the full size pics are too large. You probably don't need anything larger than 800x600 or so.
Otherwise, I like the theme you're working with. I'm attempting to do my own DIY graphics... or, doing it without graphics. Just my own color scheme.

Kim that is my problem also and my accountant just jumped my butt for doing it and told me to knock it off.
Is your accountant your other personality?

Looks like a nice recipe. Great combo of oils.
Sounds like it may be for problem type skin or acne. The addition of Pepermint EO and Green Clay are usually added for healing. Too much Clay can be somewhat drying.
Could the clay be eliminated without affecting the recipe much?

I found this recipe at http://www.halderman.net/soap/index.html
Has anyone tried this? Looks yummy. I just got some awesome smelling Cocoa Butter that is begging for some mint
Creamy Cocoa Butter Soap
© Fredalina
8 oz. cocoa butter
10 oz coconut oil
4.5 oz. grapeseed oil
13 oz. olive oil
4.5 oz. vegetable shortening
water (please calc)
lye (please calc)
3/4 oz. peppermint EO
2 T. green French clay
Would anyone make any adjustments?

That's what I thought the flash point was also. Never even looked at the fp in regard to soap. Hmm, off to do some research.
Any observed direct relationship between flash point and "burn off" is going to be purely coincidental.... mostly.

Hello Ladies,
I think I screwed up, I am a newbie to soy wax and I think I've added too much fragrance - i didnt realize how much more FO soy takes in comparison to other waxes. I kept adding more and more because it didnt smell stroing enough and now the wax is drying with a coating on the top. Did I add too much FO - How do you know if you've added too much fragrance to Soy Wax will it dry funny??
You've got to weigh the wax and FO and use only up to what the mfg of the wax says to use. Unfortunately, you can't just add till it smells right

Use the same wax for the chunks and the over-pour. Use a votive/pillar wax.

Just an opinion. I think the randomness of the chunks in the pillar are what makes the candle. I dump the chunks into the mold and pour. If you're going to try to make the chunks fit the mold, you might just as well pour a pillar, and be done with it. To get the chunks to get closer to the mold, you could cut them smaller, that way more of them will pack closer. I have always cut mine about a half inch square, and they are poured about a half inch deep.
Fredron
I suppose I agree with your statement. I guess the one reason you'd want to match the contour of your mold would be for an imbed. Otherwise, chunks is random
I think too that if your chunks are too big, you might run the risk of your melt pool leaking past the chunk and to the edge of the pillar. I guess if your overpour is the right temp, it should bind well with the chunks, eh?
Here's a couple chunky pics. A pillar first. I think the chunks are too big:

And, a chunky votive. These are small chunks, like 1/4" cubes.

Here is a pic of that pillar burning.

Soy 100%, scent with 1.5 to 1 lb. of wax liquid dye very little. Tested med. & large cotton wicks in 8oz. square masom, 12oz. Vic. jars. same jars with CD 14 and 16, very little scent throw.
Testing a ECO 10 in the 8oz. mason and melt pool is great but very little throw.
Tureen jar 4-5 oz. same formula as above CD 18 Lilac & Apple Jack n Peel, Blueberry Muffin do you think the 18 is too big? These are great throwers in J-50 wax.
Does the Soy by it's self not throw very well?? 2. I get a white film of wax left on the jar after each 3 hour burn to find the right wick should this happen?
Please if anyone can help that would be great. Thank you, Joyce
Is this your starting point? I'd start at 1oz. pp. as a baseline. Also, make sure you're curing the candles for 1 week. It can make a huge difference in the throw.

If you don't intend to package the tarts for sale, then you can use whatever wax you want. If you want the tarts to hold up to mild handling abuse, then you'll want to use something more rugged, like a votive/pillar wax or the GB 474. You could also add some universal soy additive to the 415 to make it tougher.
My last batch of tarts I use the 474. Works nicely.

I have a gift certificate to burn at NG, so I thought I'd get some soap dyes if the concensus says that they work just fine... Once I get some oils to try out CP soaping, I want to have proper dyes to work with. The reviews on site seem good.

Pillar Soy waxes
in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
Posted
Give the EcoSoya PB a try. Most of the suppliers are selling 10# samples to test with. I'm fairly satisfied with it, but I've never tried any other pillar wax besides a soy/palm blend.
Do you have pictures of your undesirable result?
