Those would have matched my old furniture perfectly

I have a question about your photography. What did you use for a background in your picture? I am playing around with poster board. I need to get the right lighting too, I guess.

Pillar wax can sometimes make good tarts. Pour the excess into tart molds or small cups. Enjoy the remains in your tart warmers

I think it looks great... not too many shells, IMO.

GB474 for tarts. Works pretty well.

I don't know why anyone wants to put on a spigot.
Because it looks cool? I'll probably do it anyway, because I like to complicate things...

cocoa butter can kill the lather as well. I think next time you should omit the beeswax.
Thanks. I'll try that. This was more of just a fun experiment than anything.

I just got my replacement Presto from Amazon today. I will try it tomorrow with just water and check the temperature. I don't like the magnet connection because it comes apart so easily. But....tomorrow I will judge it again.....I want a small pot for just a couple of candles....because I don't have the room I did in Virginia....I had room for several 30 pound Wecks....just not enough electricity .......tripped the circuit breaker all of the time. I'm sure you can void the warranty (once you're sure this one works) and find a way to permanently attache the cord to the temp controller. I wouldn't want to do it if you have kids around that could pull the unit off a counter.
Good luck!

I modified a bit of cocoa butter SFIC M&P base. I mixed in some unrefined cocoa butter (yuuuummmm), a bit of beeswax (cause I figured that the butter would soften the bar) and a bit of cocoa powder.

I think the beeswax killed the lather, but not completely. Here are my proportions:
8 oz. SFIC cocoa butter soap base
.8 oz cocoa butter, unrefined
.5 oz beeswax (light yellow color)
.5 tsp cocoa powder
Gotta figure out how to get that cocoa powder mixed better, though it didn't really cause any problems.
The bar smells YUMMY! No artifical fragrance or color
Any tips for making the above? I saw a recipe somewhere that used bakers chocolate.

I had thought about trying to make my own but didn't know what material to use. Sounds like you figured it out! I will be interested to know the results.
Thanks everyone for your input!
I think his are HDPE (high density polyethylene). I only got the stuff I did because I found it cheap.

I'm a virgin soaper, and had a couple questions:
Does it matter what kind of Olive oil I get? EVOO, Pomace, el-cheapo?
Same goes for veg. shortening. Is the new Crisco ok for this?
I intend to cut my teeth on a couple well known recipes here on the board, so I can compare with known results.
Thanks!

I bought some UHMWPE plastic on ebay and I am going to try to make my own mold, similar to that style. I'll post my results.

I got a suppliers name from a lady that closed her candle business last year. The problem is each FO has to be purchased in 5 lbs, 10 lbs. etc. I was wondering if there was another supplier that might not require that I purchase so much of one fragrance. TIA:D
Why not do a co-op. Then you can get as little as you want and help others do the same.

If soy is food...and food is soy....then why not just by a large can of crisco and plop a wick in it....poof...instant unscented candle!
Kidding of course...just got a kick out of this post!
It has been done. There is a thread in the old board archives of just such an attempt.

Is that a 2" pillar? How are you wicking that one? I have a 2" mold that I've been wanting to try out.
What Pillar wax are you using?

Nice work. Way to get your chunk on!
I've been meaning to make some more chunky pillars too.
Have you test burned many of them? I am somewhat concerned about the meltpool following the surface of a chunk and leaking out the side.
I'll post a pick of a chunky burn.

I am in the process of clearing 1/4 of my basement for this purpose. I have overrun the kitchen and dining room with candle stuff, so I am dedicating some down-stairs space. The only issue I'll have is heat in the winter. I need to get a space heater to keep the area warm when I am doing candles. In the summertime, it is great. stays nice-n-cool.

I have seen these candles in stores across the country. Just the average kind of candle one would buy while grocery shopping. They come in various sizes and colors and have a pretty little "coin" tied on. Jante is the company. I thought it would be a good idea to buy one and see how an "average" candle burns. We all worry so much about our melt pools and how our candles burn....guess they didn't test this one. (smile)
It has had three, three hour burns. It is tunneling like crazy and getting a bulge. Just found this to be interesting.
Now....I have bought more expensive candles and they burn much better....but again.....this is what is on the shelves for the general public. Donita Louise
I walked into a coffee shop and watched most of the pillar candles billow smoke as I struggled to breathe in there. I wanted to run and find a wick trimmer!
I talked to the owner later and he said that they spend crazy amounts of money on candles. These weren't cheap candles and they did burn strangely. He mentioned that one of the candles he had in there had caught fire on the side! My guess is that the wick fell over and was laying on the side of the pillar or something....
Anyway, I know what you mean about quality candles. I am going to give that coffee shop owner a price on my pillars. I don't know if I can save him money, but he'll have a safer, cleaner burning candle for sure!

Is this dangerous or is this just normal FO or wax evaporation or something? Any help would be great!
Melany
More likely the fragrance oil evaporating. I've seen this on some warmers I've used. Depends on how hot they get.
No, I don't think there is danger, as long as the warmer is approved for wax tarts.

Hi! They look great. What type of wax are you using and where can I get some?

I tried and liked The Candlmaker's Store spearmint. I don't recall the color, but I'm fairly certain it was not dark.
