My wife and I have recently started making candles again. We've just finished our 3rd 50 pound box of 464. The last box (and the earlier ones to a lesser degree) has had issues with sink holes and quite a bit of porosity after the pour. We've tried pouring at different temps, etc. Just figured it was something we'd have to deal with using 464 and just hit with a heat gun after setup.
My wife cracked open a new box and made two batches of candles (8 total). PERFECT tops. No cracking or holes after the pour.
Is this typical? What attribute of the wax might cause or prevent these issues?
Thanks!

A friend was asking if anyone made plastic lids for the mason jars, specifically soap pump lid combos. Anyone hear of these? If not, A source for plastic lids and pumps that have a collar that can attach through a hole in a lid. I'm handy. I can punch/drill a hole.
Let me know if any of our typical suppliers carry this stuff.
Thanks!

Fragrances are duplicated all the time. Most suppliers have copy cat fragrances from Bath & B*dy Works, Vict*rias Secret, Estee Lauder, Lush, etc.
Ask here on the board - we might already know if the ones you want copied have already been done.
If you want to have a fragrance duplicated you can ask a supplier. Aztec copied a few for me, but we had an existing business relationship before I asked them. To me, it never hurts to ask. All they can say is NO!
There's one fragrance in particular that I'd love to find. I know several soapers that would give up some functioning body part for this stuff. I really don't want to say here what the fragrance is or who the supplier was. He's a nice guy. :-) I'd have to do this totally on the down low.

I have maple butter from Candle Wic and Buttery maple syrup from JS. I actually like the one from JS better. I haven't smelled the one from Yankee or BCN. I can send you a sample of each if you like.
If you have an ounce of each, that would be awesome. I'd gladly pay. Just let me know. I'd like to get enough to test in our square mason jars. Thanks!

Have someone requesting this fragrance in a candle (Soy, in this case). Bitter Creek has one, as does Candlewic. Anyone have any experience with this Yankee dupe?
Thanks!

There have been some FO suppliers in the past that had spectacular, unique fragrances, and have decided to give up the business of supplying. I've clung to some with thoughts of having them duplicated. In some cases, I'm conflicted about doing so. Are there legal issues with doing this? Is it really just a matter of ethics and whether I can sleep well at night?
With that aside, what are recommendations for making this happen? Go straight to the manufacturers, or pick a favorite distributor and let them have a go at it? My business is very, very small. I couldn't commit to a large volume order.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?

My favorites all seem to get discontinued or a supplier goes oob.
So patchouli in almost anything would rank at the top, leaving me to buy from lebermuth when I run out some day.
SECOND would be dragon's blood.
Third might be Rapture from ah/re. There are a number of scents there to rival that though.
I'm a closet patchouli lover. I also LOVE dragon's blood (only ever tried NG).

Aztec's Blueberry Cobbler is the best and strongest to me.
Great. I'll probably give it a try since I like the ones I've tried so far. Thanks!

Wish I had good news, but I've been using 464 for years and I can't find a way around the frosting. If there is a way to avoid it I'd like to know too.
I'm betting that the wax itself is a large contributor to the problem, but vegetable waxes are just prone to it in general based on the structure of the wax when cool.

Looking for techniques that work well for reducing frosting, including specific suppliers and types of colorants to use. I'm using GW464, which I'm sure plays a significant role.
Thanks for any tips.

Just getting back to the candle making game. Having to re-test everything. Can't recall the supplier I used before for Blueberry Muffin/Cobbler before. Got some in from CS, but I'm underwhelmed. I'm using GW464 wax. I'm thinking now that I really liked Peak's Blueberrywhateveritis. I'd love to stick to a couple suppliers, but I know how it goes. I've got some from CS, CMS (fairly local, no shipping costs), NG. Made first order with Aztec and I'm in love with what I ordered.
Ok, so what's your fav blueberry bakery type scent supplier?
Thanks!

My husband is a little ignorant regarding how all soap is made. he refuses to use mine cause he knows its made with oils and seems to believe that other name brand bar soaps are oil free???
Anyone have any some advise on how I can make my husband understand that most all soap is made from saponified oils???
Shower with him. He won't care what soap you're using. *bubble bath*

is the fourth photo it cured..or is it still curing..I kinda like how it looks in the fourth pic such an awesome mix of color..VERY earthy reminds me of lava flow..
love it..
Once cured, they are brown throughout.

Made this soap a while back. Didn't research the FO.. I had it on hand and decided to try it.
This is Peak's Pink Sugar. Swirled with some Pink Neon. Smells freakin' awesome, but looks like butt. Initially looked like sweet potato casserole or some kind of pumpkin dish. After the cure, it looks like mud marble.
Still, it smells wonderful. I'm a dude and I think this is close enough to a unisex scent that I use it. It just looks like you're rinsing mud off of your body in the shower. Not sure I'd use this in a "bath".

Ungelled soaps take longer to saponify, but once it's "done" and is zap free then go ahead and use it. Sure it mellows during the first two weeks, and hardens up through the first 4 or so, but you can use it any time after it's not zappy.
I've seen reference to this "zap" test. Can you explain it for me?
Thanks,
Tony

I'm not positive if it gelled or not... I soaped it fairly cool. I poured into a wooden mold and wrapped it up inside an insulated carrier.
I've handled the cut soap and haven't noticed anything. Perhaps I'll try some in a not-so-sensitive-area and see how it goes.
Thanks,

I've just started CP soaping. I've got 4 batches down, 2 of which are a little over a week old. Is it safe to try out a bar from a week-old batch?
Thanks,
Tony

It's a very pretty pink too.
As long as you don't use Peak's Pink Sugar... Then it is a pretty pumpkin. My pink swirl is now sweet potato casserole.
-
I know about the off smell (putting it nicely lol), but since it went away, and it seemed to only be the hot pink, I kept using them.
I'm glad I read this. I just started CPing and my third soap batch used this hot pink neon. I noticed the smell of old bicycle innertube. At first I thought it was just the gloves I was wearing.

I am not sure about another supplier carrying it..
but information i have received..elementsbathandbody.com
might be buying FOH's Fo oils..
Yeah, I had heard that too. I replied to their email and mentioned the Indonesian Teak.
Thanks!
-
Anyone know if Fragrance Oil Heaven's Indonesian Teak was a common formula that possibly another supplier had? I think the name was changed to Whispers of Love recently. It definitely whispered something to me.. not sure if it was love or lust. I love the stuff. And, I feel comfortable in my masculinity admitting it too!
Thanks,
Tony

If you like bayberry, theirs is very good. Pink sugar is great. I've only tried a few and all of them have performed excellent in any wax or B&B application.

I know I don't want a straight up floral already have enough of those.
I want to try something different other than what I usually go for like food scents unless it's a truely amazing scent.
Anybody have any good ideas or new scents that would fit in the different catergory?
A few of my fav's that don't seem to fall in the food or floral categories:
Peony White Tea, Candle Cocoon. Kicks butt in any wax I've tried.
Indonesian Teak, FOH. Works better in palm than soy.
Dragon's Blood, Nature's Garden. Just tested in a soy/palm pillar. Kicks!
