  1. Where do I find that size cotton? I just checked both Peaks and Bittercreek North and don't see them. Peak has cotton core wick but in a 60 and 65..no 62. I found a 62-52-18C at Mill Creek is this the wick you mean? Sorry to sound dumb here but I'm not familiar with the cotton wicks.
  2. I am wondering which is bigger an HTP 126 or HTP 1212? I'm currenty using a 1212 in most of my wide mouth Masons with a 3" opening but I feel that it is a tad to hot because by the time it gets toward the bottom of the jars they get very hot and they smoke like crazy when I blow them out. I tried the HTP 105 but it won't work. I have also tried double wicking with two ECO 4's they are to hot, but with two ECO 2's the flame fizzles down to almost nothing. I have also tried the largest wicks in both RRD's and ECO's and they don't quite cut it either so I'm wondering if the HTP 126 is in between a 105 and 1212 in size. I have been at this for about a year and have had a lot of people wanting to buy some of my candles. I have gotten my wicks figured out in my smaller jars but not the wide mouths. I will NOT SELL a candle that I don't feel is safe. I was Looking at the chart at Atkins & Pearce and it shows the HTP listed before the 1212 and it says that wicks sizes are measured in yards per pound in weight and that the higher the yield the smaller the wick. The 126 has a higher yield then the 1212 but then it shows that it has a higher rate of consumption, a larger flame, and bigger melt pool then the 1212 so I'm confused..Which wick would be a larger wick then? The HTP 1212 or 126? Here is the link to the wick chart. I know I have written a lot in here so thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to read this and tries to muddle through what I'm talking about. http://www.wicksunlimited.com/atkins_pearce_htp_wicks.php
  3. I tried 3% and burned today..still not having very good luck. I poured 2 different size jars. I Tried 3% fragrance and ECO 14 in a wide mouth Mason with a 3 inch opening and ECO 10 in regular mason with a 2 1/2 inch opening. Neither are burning well, they are still drowning out.....GRRRRRR!!! This is so frustrating. I absolutely LOVE this scent and want to get it wicked, lol. I ordered some RRD wicks today so hopefully I have some luck with that. I wondered if it could be the 444 wax that I'm using but I wicked BN's Sex on the beach with an ECO 8 in a regular Mason at 1% fragrance oil pp. The wax came out of the same batch of wax I have been using for the Blackberry sage. The Sex on the Beach is burning fine. If I can't get this fragrance wicked with the RRD's I think I'll have to give up on it. I'll let you all know how it goes.
  4. Thanks so much for everyones help. You are all such a wonderful group of people here. I have been making candles for the last year and this board has been such a help to me. I am constantly reading and learning from all of you. I will try cutting the amount of fragrance oil that I am using to see if that helps.
  5. What size RRDS or CD's would you suggest I start with since I have to order them because I don't have them on hand.
  6. Hi all, I have been trying to wick Peaks Blackberry Sage in a Wide mouth Pint Jar with an opening of 3". I have tried HTP wicks clear up to a 1312 and the largest size ECO wick which is an ECO 14. I can not seem to get this wicked right. I'm using golden wax 444 and blackberry sage at 1 oz pp of wax. I'm also using bitter creek liquid dyes about 6 drops pp of wax. I'm getting really frustrated here and am about to decide I'm not going to be able to get this fragrance wicked right. The flame is fine for the first burn but gradually gets weaker in subsiquent burns. I'm not able to reach a full melt pool even on the first burn. I can't even get blackberry sage wicked right in a regular mason jar with an opening of about 2 1/2. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I might be doing wrong or what else I might try?? I'd greatly appreciate ANY help. Thanks!
  7. How much difference is everyone noticing in wick sizes. I had just got my sizes figured out for the old blend of 444 and then found out it has been reblended so has everyone been having to wick up or down from the wicks they normally used. I use wickit wicks and have gone through my samples on a couple of sizes figuring out which wick I needed. Does anyone know where I can get smaller quantities of wickit wicks since I will now have to start all over with my testing to come up with the right wick size. Thanks all.
  8. Wow, I'm getting my jars at the wrong place too. It costs me about 9.00 per dozen jars. Which is .75 cents a jar. I wish I could find them cheaper locally, but it isn't really any cheaper for me to have them shipped in by the time I pay shipping and handling. I have to drive an hour to even get to the closest walmart, lol.
  9. I also have had no problem with these wicks. I have actually had better luck with them then I was having with the HTP's. I use 16 oz Wide Mouth Masons I currently am using GW 444 and peaks oils. I have found I am able to single wick these jars with either a 793 or a 795, depending on the scent I am using. I have had no problem with sooting or with a burnt smell at all. I'm going to do some more testing with them and if the results hold they will probabally be the wicks I stick with. I just wish I could order them in smaller quantities then 1000 wicks at a time.
  10. I really like these wicks. I have been testing them using GW 444 in wide mouth mason jars. I was unable to get these jars wicked right with HTP's but was able to single wick with these wicks.
  11. Grumpy Girl, I requested my samples on the second of February, and got a conformation e-mail saying that they would be sending them, but never recieved them. So, last week I gave them a call and told them I'd requested samples but had never recieved them and requested them again. I just recieved them the other day. Try calling them and asking them for the samples.
  12. I also just got a bunch of samples of the 700 series wicks. I have been trying to wick a wide mouth canning jar with HTP'S and have been having a terrible time. Hopefully these do the trick.
  13. I also agree that there are some wonderful people on this board. I have gotten so much information from here. I have had questions and have found so many helpful and positive people on here. Thanks to you all!! This is a great place for anyone who wants to learn.
  14. I have been using 6.25% fragrance oil pp, on most of my scents.
  15. Thanks Meridith, you have been such a help! I'll start working my way through some of those wicks and see if I can find one that gives me better results then what I have been having.
  16. Thanks to both of you for your help. Meridith, they are the wide mouth pints. Yes, I have burned them all of the way down, but I am still having hangup. It is not a LOT of hangup, most of it is towards the tops of the jars. It does make the jars look rather ugly though. I am using rediglo dye chips. I am going to experiment with different dyes, to see if maybe that will make a difference. Kaybee, I will give double wicking a shot in the wide mouth pints. I don't have any HTP 73's on hand, but I do have the 83's, so I'll try them first and if necessary order some 73's. Again, thanks alot for your suggestions. It helps to get other peoples perspectives on things.
  17. Hi everyone, I have what might seem like a really strange wick question. I have been testing and testing and testing and am having a problem wicking my jars. I currently am trying to wick two different size jars. The first jar is a 16oz wide mouth canning jar with a 3 inch opening. I have tried HTP 104, 105, 1212, 1312, and 126 in this jar and am still having a problem with hangup. My wicks just seem to have a weak flame. I am using golden brands 444. The second jar is a 8 oz jelly jar. It has an opening of about 2 1/2". Again, I have tried HTP 83, 93, 104, and 105. Also I have tried an ECO 4 in this jar. Still, the same problem, quite a bit of hangup left over on the jars even after several burns and a weak flame. If I go up in size on this jar though they get VERY hot, so I don't really think I want to go up to a larger wick on it . I have been adding my fragrance oils at a rate of 6.25% pp of wax. I melt to 175, and add my oil at this temperature. Stir and cool to 135, and pour. I know my problem isn't sink holes, because I have checked this. My ? is this I guess. I know the rule for wick trimming is 1/4". Could my problem be that I am triming my wicks to short? I know the rule is to trim your wicks to 1/4", but since the HTP's curl could that be what is causing the wicks to sputter out and die on me. I am sooooo frustrated. I don't know where to go from here. I'd appreciate any help I can get from you all. I am at a loss at what I should try next. I don't know if I need to switch wicks, wax, or what my problem may be. :embarasse Thanks
  18. I second that! I'd hope peaks carries it too. I'd like to get some more and do a little more testing.
  19. OK, I am going to attempt to send some pictures of my test results. I only have a webcam so I hope that everyone can see them. I poured two candles in 8 oz jelly jars. I heated the wax to 175 and added the fragrance oil at that temperature. Candle # 1 I added 8% peaks Clean Cotton, and Candle # 2 I added 8% Lonestars Amish Harvest. I stirred and cooled to 135 degrees and poured. Both candles set up with pretty smooth tops. Both candles have GREAT cold throw. I am going to wait a couple of days and then test burn them to try and see how the hot throw is. I'll update when I have the results of the test burns. UPDATE: I have been test burning both candles and so far they are burning well. I have a good melt pool with no soot and NO hangup. I was able to wick this wax easier than the 444, which I have been having a problem wicking in my jars. The hot throw on the Amish Harvest is awesome. The hot throw on the Clean cotton is not as strong as I would like, but I am unsure if it is the fragrance oil or the wax since I haven't used this particular fragrance in the past. OH, and there were NO wet spots and no frosting.
  20. Yay, I got my wax. I can't wait to try it! Looks like I have more candles to make tomorrow.
  21. Thanks bunches Jason!! I can't wait to try this wax.
  22. I am reletively new to candlemaking. I started a couple of months ago with the intention of making a few candles for friends and family for Christmas, RIGHT, lol...I have quickly become addicted. The wax I chose was C3. I don't add anything to it, but am not very happy with the scent throw. I am going to start testing some other waxes. Hopefully I get better throw.
