  1. Those are beautiful! How do you make them?
  2. The gel (from Yaley) sold at Michaels and other craft stores is definitely LOW density. When I first started making gel candles, I contacted Yaley and inquired about that and their response was that it is Low density gel. When you put a chunk of each side by side, the medium is much clearer. You can even feel the difference when handling it. Low density feels very oily compared to the medium density. Suspending items in low density won't take long until they sink to the bottom. Last but not least, low density can't hold as much scent as the medium can. So for those of you who already have the low density (craft store stuff referred to above), I would suggest you get a sample of a true medium penreco, and do these comparisons. There are differences!
  3. Hi.. I use stickums also, but to hold the wick taut, I use a metal wick bar which I have purchased from RusticEscentuals for only 89 cents each. They have saved me so much time and aggravation and have had perfect straight centered wicks everytime. Well worth the purchase!
  4. Your welcome. As for the big ones, I'm assuming you're referring to the Ivy bowls.. that's what I'm trying to find out.. which size wick people are using for this bowl. Wow, you really took chances in burning that candle with a cracked glass! You could have had quite a mess on your hands! I would have thrown it away after saving any embeds and gel (since it sounds like there was such a large quantity) that could be saved.
  5. Brooke, you might be able to get it faster if you post in the classifieds as ISO (In Search Of) Gel Sample. There's lots of activity in the classifieds lol.
  6. Luci, I believe used the 51-32-18 in the small ones. Works great except for I hate that mushrooming and the particles of the wicks going down in the gel after being extinguished. But it's the right size wick insofar as it will burn evenly and leave about 1/8" to 1/4" of gel along the wall of the glass. The tunneling problem you had was due to some trapped air in between your waxed embeds (I'm sure you found that out earlier).
  7. Hi, it's been a while since I've made a candle. I'm thinking of making one for a thank you gift. For the life of me I can't remember which size wick I used in the large ivy bowl. I know that I have to use 2 wicks - but would prefer using 3 instead since it wouldn't look so odd. I say odd, cause to me a candle is either 1 wick or 3 wicks - 2 is odd to me for some reason. Anyway, what size wick would be suggested if I use 3? I believe those bowls are 4" wide at opening. I would be creating one of those infamous beach scenes (dolphins/fish). Thank you for your help!
  8. Candlewitch.. that is a very propros suggestion... lol Good idea puppy dog. Thanks guys
  9. Did you try putting it in the refrigerator or freezer for a while? It will shrink and will be easier to release from the mold.
  10. Hi.. I have a friend who will be getting his MD soon and I wanted to make her a special gel candle with some doctor stuff embeds if there are any such items in existence. Does anyone know where I can find any? Other suggestions are welcome.
