  1. I just realized that I doubled my fragrance load by mistake. I poured 60 candles and instead of using 1oz per pound, I used 2oz. I'm using C3 and see that the max load is 8%. I am extremely cautious, and wonder if this is going to cause a hazard. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm very frustrated by this silly error.
  2. Hello, I have been testing and testing and just had a thought/question. I am using C3 and have been testing various wick sizes. I am noticing on some of the testers the flame gets a little big and wild, yet the wax is slightly adhering to the jar. I'm confused by this. If the wax isn't clearing off the sides, but the flame is looking a little too big, then if I size it down one, won't I have an even bigger problem with the burn pool?? So my thought is... if I go down a size, would the wax possibly do better because the large flame is burning the wax too fast therefore leaving a wax film on the jar? Does this make sense? Thanks Lori
  3. Thanks so much for your feedback, very helpful. I'm finding that the HTP seem to work best for me, but will keep these thoughts/recommendations for future wicking issues!
  4. Thanks for reeling in my OCD!! Very good point. I have been working so hard to get the candle to perform perfectly, that I end up watching every aspect of the process like a hawk. One question I do have. Once you find the correct wick/wax/fragrance combo, do you notice much difference in the burn when you modify the fragrance type?
  5. Thank you for the great feedback!!! I bet that is what's causing the wick issue. I will take your suggestions and modify that part of the process. Since I've only been in testing mode, I haven't had to make a bunch at one time, so this will help me set up a system for larger batches as well. Thanks so much for the feedback. This forum has been such a huge help. I feel so alone in this process at times! Thanks!
  6. Ok, I'll try to heat it room up a bit. One thing I have always wondered is if it is ok that I have the candles sitting on my kitchen counter while they cool. Do you see that as a problem? I usually put them on a cookie sheet directly on a cutting board. Should I have airflow under them as well?
  7. I've been using clothespins to hold the wick, they keep it pretty tight. I'm using soy and am pouring in a calm, relaxed environment... just kidding. I'm trying to keep the temperature over 70, but now that it's getting much warmer out, maybe I'll have better luck next pour. I can't imagine tightening the wick throughout the cooling process, seems like it would disturb the wax...
  8. I ended up switching to the HTP after this last post, they burn much better in soy than the CD did. I'm in my final test and think I may have nailed it. Thanks for your input!
  9. Hello, you might have just hit the nail on the head! I was wondering if maybe I was pulling it too tight. I'll ease up on them in the next batch. Thanks!
  10. Thank you so much for your feedback. I'll have to see if I can slow the cooling process down a bit. I'm about ready to test this wick, fingers crossed!
  11. Hello, Does anyone know why this might be happening? Thanks!
  12. Thanks Chefmom for your feedback, it's very helpful. I purchased a hand poured soy candle that I think performs well and thought it could act as a guide. I realize it's like trying to recreate a recipe, which is next to impossible, just wanted something to compare my candle to. I appreciate your testing procedure and will consider adopting some of your techniques! Thanks!
  13. I had posted yesterday about jar temperature. I think this wick (the cd) might be the problem too. I am trying the HTP now, hopefully will work! I'm glad I made a couple other options to test. Also, I never thought about not securing the wick!!!! Good tip! Thank you so much for your replies—it's much appreciated!
  14. Thanks!! I agree. They seem to work well when doing the smaller burns, but the powerburn seemed to throw it all off! I guess that's why it's a really good idea!
  15. Hello, I'm powerburning my two candle sizes, which are at about 5 hours. The only testing I've done with these are the 3-4 hour burns. Usually the first one created the mushroom effect, then does great after that first burn. I'm curious what others have experienced with the powerburn. See attached for the 5 hour mark.
  16. Thank you so much for your feedback. I started making candles at the beginning of the year, and just found this site! It would have been a great resource while on the hunt for what would work. I will definitely call Fillmore Candle. kandlekrazy, I will definitely try the cotton core as well, I see a lot of people mentioning having success with that wick. Do you use the recommended size? or do you up it?
  17. I had a feeling it was a hot wick. I have tried so many options, the only one I haven't tried was a cotton core. Have you had any success with that wick? I have been doing this for months and am getting slightly frustrated—just when I thought I had it working!
  18. No, just by the time my burn gets down to 3/4, it seems to be much hotter. I'm doing the suggested 3-4 hour burn test. I'm wondering if it's just the CD wick, or if it's too big. The control candle seems to burn so well, the burn pool happens faster than mine, but when you touch the container/glass, it's not as hot. Very confusing! Does this make sense?
  19. Hello, I'm wondering if anyone knows how hot a glass candle container should actually get after being lit for 3-4 hours. It's about 3/4 of the way down and seems very hot. I purchased a similar candle which I'm using as my control candle, and notice that even though my wick seems to be performing well, the glass on my candle is significantly hotter than the control candle (which I believe they're using a cotton core wick). I'm using a CD10 wick in Naturewax C3 and the candle is about 2.75 inches wide. Thanks!!
