  1. @wthomas57 I just put paper cucpcake liners in a muffin pan, find pinecones in the yard, and pour my leftover candle wax over the cone into the liner.  Bits of dry twigs/moss would be good, too. For the fancier ones, I sprinkled a little dry rosemary on top and added a piece of cinnamon stick to each, for looks.

Well, I finally ordered the Iced Tea Twist from WSP - Oh I just love it and regret not buying a bigger bottle :( Thanks for recommending it, its fantastic !

Now I need to work on some product labels. Any suggestions on a company thats user friendly, Im not super savy with this kind of stuff :(

Glad you like it!  I can't give any recommendations on labels, as I print my own, but I know many people who purchase theirs will probably chime in! :)

  3. I have made lavender candles for myself and sprinkled dried lavender buds on the top; I like them because they look pretty and rustic.  They burned well and did not catch fire or even soot.  When the flame burned, it pushed the buds to the edge of the container, away from the flame.

HOWEVER, I feel like I'd be too nervous to sell them because of the possibility of a lawsuit if someone burned their house down.  So, I haven't used dried lavender in the candles I've sold.  Just for me :)

  4. Welcome to the forum! I have to say that I very much like your user name :)  The Pacific NW is a beautiful part of the country - if I could choose where to live, that would be my choice.  The conifer forest and rainy days are calling my name.  One day...

The vanilla butter from Lebermuth has the same yumminess that the coconut cream has, in case your interested. Do you get a nice balance of both rosemary mint

or is it stronger on the mint ? Im thinking of mixing that one with a lavender FO - do you think that would work ? The coconut lemongrass is great too :)

    Thanks for the update !

Thank you for the suggestions!  It's hard to say since I'm just sniffing out of the bottle, but I think the mint is stronger than the rosemary.  However, I can smell both and they smell true.  I think I'll make candles with it and see how they are, and if it's too minty, add some rosemary from Candle Cocoon to balance it out.  I have also tried Rosemary Mint from Aztec, and this is much better than that.  That one was super minty, in a fake way.

I am in the middle of farm country made out of wetland. The pesticide and herbicide sprays and runoff are nothing to laugh about.   Have lost more farmer friends to nasty health issues to count. Nothing is gentle about big ag. Sorry.

I wasn't laughing about pesticide runoff - I don't like them either.  I don't mind the GMOs though.  Sorry to offend.

What is Lebermuth ? Is this something that I need ? ?

I have heard that, YES, it is!  I am ashamed to admit that in my longtime search for the perfect patchouli FO, i broke down yesterday and bought a pound even though there was a $20 charge for buying less than $300 of supplies.  I just had to know if it's really amazing.  Patch is my favorite.

I have the sandalwood rose that candybee mentions, and it is very nice. I also have vanilla butter - coconut cream - peach gardenia - pineapple jasmine

beachwood mango - brazilian mango - they all smell vey good :) Yes, they are Lebermuth .

So excited to hear this about the coconut.  I have been dying for a good one and was hoping this would be it! :)

  9. This happened to me once - I ordered anyway and then the woman who runs CC emailed me to make sure I didn't want the cheaper USPS shipping option.  Of course I said "yes, please!"  If you email her before you order, I bet she will fix it for you :)  She is really helpful and has exceptional customer service.

  10. I'm sorry I haven't been a part of this discussion more - I went on a trip for the week; back home now.  I have really enjoyed reading everyone's opinions on the topic.  Personally I don't care much whether or not the candle I'm burning is soy or paraffin.  However, it's everyone else I'm worried about, and with this whole "100% natural soy" train everyone has jumped on, I feel like soy might sell better. B)

So you think I should try a CD 5 ? Thank you :)

Couldn't hurt!  I should also mention, my CD6 & 8 wicks were from Flaming Candle, and my CD7s were from Nature's Garden - wondering if maybe the two companies use a different wax to coat their wicks, as their coatings looked a bit different.  That may have something to do with how they are burning (if that is the case, Flaming Candle wicks are burning better than Nature's Garden).

  12. I am attempting to use CD wicks in my small 4 oz jelly jars, a bit more than 2.25" in diameter.  I have been testing CD6, CD7, and even CD8 with some tougher fragrances.  I have found that the smaller CD6 wicks burn larger, shallower melt pools than the CD7s.  The CD7s always leave a lot of hangup on one side of the jar, even though I twist the wicks.  Scent throw is also better with the CD6s.  HOWEVER, during the second burn with CD6 the flame get so small I am afraid it is going to go out - this hasn't happened, though.  Just a weak flame.  Melt pool and scent throw still look great, though.  So I'm up in the air!  Wicking is so frustrating.

*Edited to say I agree that your CD6 wick looks a bit large.  There is a bit of soot around the top of your jar there.

Looking at the store bought candle pic offhand it looks like a parasoy blend to me-- part soy and part paraffin. Adding a little paraffin to soy makes a kick azz looking creamy candle with little to no frosting- but then its no longer 100% soy.

This makes me so tempted to do a soy blend, but I like the 100% soy concept I've been working with (although I know 444 has additives, and that makes me want to try 415, but I'm going to stick with the my 444 anyway).

  14. Hey guys,

I bought a soy candle from Target today, just to see how it burned in comparison to the candles I have been making.  It kind of rocks.  I mean, I thought mine burned just fine and I have been loving my scents, but I don't know...

The Target candle is a little 4.4 ounce glass jar, soy wax, coconut scent.  The smell isn't insanely strong, but it scented my small kitchen, and it was pretty nice.  It mushroomed like one would expect.  But the WAX.  Is it possible to have soy wax be a perfectly creamy, soft-looking wax, free of imperfections?  Because this little $6 candle has the smoothest, softest looking soy wax I have ever seen.  If there is such a wax... I would like to start using it rather than the 444 I am using now.

Pics: left candle is store bought, right candle is one of mine.
