  1. Only if I can work out how to get a photo downloaded onto here. I've never done it before. Tacky wax? Do you mean leave wax cool until tacky, or is it another wax? Thanks for the replies. Tracey.
  2. Ok. The balloon candle thread really interested me today, and needless to say I just had to try it. Everything went just great until I came to add the dried flowers. How do you get them to say on? The leaves I just dipped in the wax, and placed where I wanted them, but the flowers were too delicate to do that with. So, what the trick to get them on without ruining them. The kids just can't believe Mum made it. Any help much appreciated. Tracey
  3. Thankyou everyone for your replies. I started out scenting with 6%, then saw everyone talking about scent loads of 12%, so for this batch I decided to try 10%. There was no swetting or oil feeling, so must be able to hold. I have just ordered in other wick, HTP included, as I am not happy with what I have tried. Just getting tired of re-melting and re-wicking, I want to experiement with other things, but not until I get the container down first. Patience. Thanks again, Tracey
  4. I am new to candle making and I was interested in finding out whether my tests are what everyone else experiences. I have rewick the same filled votive holder numerous times, and I am finding that the eventual wix that I use can be wicked up three or four times up from the original suggested wick size. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong. Example 1: parafin wax, 1.5% vybar, 10% F & M, 1 chip colour, RRD 40, votive 2, same as before but wicked with LX 18. Votive container size 2" Example 2: same as above but spiced pomegranite. The F & M seems to be burning well with the RRD 40, but the LX 18 seems to be drowning although melting to the edge. The S/Pom again is burning well with the RRD 40, but unfortunately not quite out to the sides, and the LX seems to be drowned again. If I rewick these, this will be the fifth time I have rewicked them up. Is this normal for the final wick to be so much larger than recommended. Curious, Tracey
  5. Thankyou very much, that was what I was wanting. Tracey
  6. I am wanting to understand the difference in these two. I reading I understand that they both increase the hardness of the wax, but for what properties, and why, would you choose one over the other in a parafin candle? Thanks again, Tracey
  7. Ok, I just went back and checked what I bought. It was a votive "holder". So I take it that I am supposed to pour a votive pillar first, then put this into a holder? Correct??? So if the votive is meant to completely melt, can the wax be poured straight into the votive holder first? Thats what I have done, and it so far, is working perfectly? Is there a reason that it must be poured as a pillar first? Boy, learning all the time. Anything else I need to know?? Tracey
  8. Ok, well that just proves how new I am to all this.:embarasse I bought votive glass containers, that are around 2 1/2" high by 2" across. I also bought glass containers that were square, about 3" x 3". So could you explain what exactly is a votive. Is there a difference between a votive, votive pillar, and a container candle. Now I'm confused. Thanks Tracey
  9. Thankyou. I only have L in one size, although I did order in more sizes yesterday. I am using RRD's at the moment. What is a pillar voltive? Tracey
  10. So far I have only made one candle that burn properly. It is a 2" voltive with a wick suitable for a 2.25 - 2.5" voltive. The burn just reaches the edges, and has performed beautifully. Parafin with vybar, and F & M Fo. I made an all bees wax voltive with the matching size wick, and got a hopless burn. Remelted and rewicked the 3" voltive with a wick suitable for a 4 - 4.5" and the burn is better but still about 1/2 away from the edges. What is the rule of thumb for wicking bees wax? ANother one I used parafin with .5% vybar, wicked with the right size for the voltive and again, burn not going anywhere near the edges. Have remelted this one too, and put in a bigger wick, and will reburn today and see what happens. So far I have followed everything that I have read, and things are still not going right. Is this normal, or just me. Any advice much welcome. Frustrated, Tracey
  11. I tried a new FO on Friday, Frank & Myrrh at 6%, and I noticed that at first a portion was sitting on the bottom of the wax, not being absorbed by the wax. By the time I have finished pouring and reheating for the final pour, all the FO had been absorbed. So I was wondering, does it take a couple of minutes for some Fo's to be absorbed. I noticed this also with a vanilla Fo, but I though at first that maybe I have put in to much FO. Can you tell yet that I'm a newbie. By the way I was using parafin. Wondering, Tracey
  12. I too have just started using the stickums, and I think they are great. Can lift if off if the wix is not centered and play around until it is. Works for me. Tracey
