  1. I`ve been reading up on soap bombs and such. Is borax the stuff your talking about in the soap section of the grocery store? Or a different animal all together. And why is borax used in soap recipes? Gosh, Ive read so much about soap my brain is fried. Years later, I know I`ll be LMAO at this question.

  6. Off-Topics, but decided it might ought to go in here.I got this out of the paper today... The codfish lays 10,000 eggs The homely hen lays one The codfish never cackles To tell you when she`s done And so we scorn the codfish While the humble hen we prize It only goes to show you That it pays to advertise

  13. ditto what candleman said....plus soy to me is kind of oily and soft .Paraffin hardens it up more.
  14. this copyed from the National Candle Association: some facts I didnt even know.... #6 might answer some questions.... . All waxes are primarily hydrocarbons, whether the wax is of animal, vegetable, or petroleum origin. The chemical composition of all waxes used for candle-making is similar. . Candles account for the second largest use of waxes in North America, after packaging and package coatings. Paraffin is the most commonly used candle wax today. Beeswax, soy wax, palm wax, gels, and synthesized waxes are also used in candle-making for the U.S. market, as are blends of waxes. Waxes burn with a yellow flame due to the presence of carbon. No specific type of wax or wax blend is considered "best" for candlemaking. All candle waxes - when provided in high-quality format - have been shown to burn cleanly and safely. No candle wax has ever been shown to be toxic or harmful to human health. There is no such thing as a soot-free wax. All organic compounds when burned will emit some carbon (soot) due to incomplete combustion. Sooting is primarily a factor of wick length and disturbance of the flame's steady teardrop shape. Reputable candle manufacturers use only high-quality waxes in their formulations.
  15. Yes, Sara, the tab size is incorrect. I didnt order this size of a tab...They have the size wick and tab I wanted, but they sent the wrong ones. When I called about it, the lady told me that alot of people use that size tab with the 34-40 wick. I sample one in one of my votives and the flame just seemed to be smaller. Just an observation. They are the same size wick I nomally use. I have just never seen this size of tab on a votive before.
  16. I did BIGCAT, and the lady was very nice, sending them back wasnt brought up. I told her that I would try one or two and see if it was something I could work with. The flame was smaller than my regular wick that I use. Just wanting advise about these tabs. Need to start reading my post at least twice so I can understand what I asking!LOL
  17. mona, how did you like them. Are they common?
  18. I was sent the wrong size wicks from BCN. They sent 34-40 zinc 2.5 wick 32mm.The tab is as wide as the bottom of a votive. Does anyone use these or have ever seem these in a votive candle? I use wick pins now and have invested in about 500, so these tabs are not something I would want to change too. A lady at BCN said people are useing these instead of wicks pins ( just straighten up the wicks as the wax hardens). You wouldnt see the tab until the wax has melted. Has anyone seem these type of tabs? Thanks, Janice Edited to explain my self clearer...
