  1. I let the candles cure for around 6 hrs chappy6107 and thanks for the tip Chefmom. I usually either blow them out or pinch with wet fingers which I don't do anymore even tho it's kinda cool
  2. Yesterday I made my first wickless candles to test, unscented and with no dye. Melted 464 at 180 then I let it cool down to 100 degrees before I poured them into 4oz tin cans. The wax looked cloudy when I poured them, then I left them to set for about 6 hrs before I tested them. I checked up on them an hour later and inserted my wicks while the wax was still soft. About 2 hrs later, 2 of the 4 had very smooth tops while the other 2 had more frost and felt rougher. Even tho they looked ready to test, I decided to give them several more hours. Everything was going smoothly. No flickering, good melt pool imo but I could be wrong, a little bit of curling, not much mushrooming and the best part was.... very little smoke after blowing out the candles! Never in my life have I seen a candle produce so little smoke. That's always been my biggest pet peeve with candles. So I wake up this morning and check if the candles still have a smooth top and nope! Both have this curdled milk top Now I either poured too cold or I should buy a heat gun to melt the wax after inserting my wick in the soft wax. I think It might be the latter because there are like a bunch of little needle holes in the center but none on the outer edge. Any help would be greatly appreciated http://imgur.com/43bdgVc,VBN3DcS#0 <-- Pics are here since they're too big to post here
  3. Has anyone tried using sponges? One to wipe the wax out and the other to remove scent with alcohol
  4. I should've worded it better but meant being able to make candles when it's over 90 degrees by 10 am till 7pm. I guess I could still make them during the summer if I start really early in the morning but will my candles be able to set/cure when it's that hot? I also just remembered that we started using the swamp cooler last summer which brings a lot of moisture throughout the house and now I'm worried that might affect the candles too... Thanks for the help OG
  5. I'm going to be working with 464 and right now it's really cool in the desert but that'll all go away by late May. It'll then be between 90 and up to 110 on some days Will it be ok to work with 464 when it gets that hot? We don't have central air conditioning only those AC's you put in your window and I don't have a basement either
  6. haha, I didn't really make candles as a kid I just dipped my fingers in the melt pool Yay! Don't you just love how much juicier the meat is when smoked? ugh, I want the weekend to be here already for superbowl sunday. Not much for the game but the food lol. And yea, can't wait to share what I create too but for the meantime I'll leave this haha
  7. What's your name? ddweller How old are you? 24 Where do you live? in the california desert surrounded by palm trees and snow birds How long have you been making candles/soap/whatever? Haven't yet! All my supplies that I just ordered today should get here by next week tho How did you get started making candles/soap/whatever? I've been making finger taper candles for a while lol. Am I the only one who did this growing up? Are you married? Any kids? Nah and Nope! If candle/Soap making isn't your primary job, what do you do? Doing odd jobs here and there but I'm hoping making candles becomes my primary job Anything else we should know? I'm pretty darn good at smoking meats Also, love this place! Been reading, taking notes and have learned a lot in the past week and a half. So many knowledgeable people on here
  8. Check out http://squarespace.com/home . Haven't played around with them in a couple of years but I used to make a website in like 2 hrs and I had no clue what I was doing lol. Really easy to use and they now have shopping cart incorporated so you can set up a store very easily now and it's mobile friendly too. That's about all I remember from their podcast ads of the new stuff they've added
  9. If you don't mind Candybee, could you post a pic of your parasoy candles?
  10. Love the color on your blue candle! If by chance you still have that post saved on eliminating frost from soy candles could you repost it back up please? I would love to know how you did it:)
  11. Thanks everyone for your help, it is very much appreciated! I did a bit more research and found a vid of the cofounders talking about how they started and one of them mentioned how they were the only luxury candle in the market at the time using black glass with colored wax. The bit of info is around the 3 min mark if you'd like to watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM17p8IWTVM
  12. I still haven't read up much on colors and fragrances yet.. learning as fast as i can!
  13. Would it be possible to mix parasoy wax and another wax to produce a less pastel color? is that possible or would that make the wax unusable? Or how about adding a darker color? Man, I'm sorry if i'm making you shake your head with my newb questions lol
  14. I think they are since it's listed at 500g for the candle and 600g with the box... unless they mean the box it's shipped in idk lol
  15. I am just starting out and have spent the last couple of days reading and finding out about all of these different type of waxes that are used along with wicks that.. that make me realize how this is truly an art form. It's a bit overwhelming to say the least but I'd very much like my candles to turn out like these. I did read on their site that they use refined mineral wax but can they be recreated using a cheaper wax since im a total newb:p
