If you know the function of each preservative ie, used for products made with water, versus products made without water, then you have a grasp of what each preservative does.
The only other consideration is , if you are making a product with goat's milk, then you need to add along with your other preservative a food presevative like EDTA.
Look in the recipe section also, see what other crafter are using in thier products.

Well now that you know you sister in law has a tart burner, give her some tarts to test for you LOL. Maybe when she sees how wonderful they are she will buy them from you.
That being said, I really never pushed my products on my family. Actually I gave them to them for gifts often. Especially soap. They love to get soap from me and it is just easier then having them feel they have to buy from me.
I just sent my parents about 12 bars of soap. They loved it, that is enough for me. Just that they appreciate my products.

in case anyone missed it here is a link in the weekly sales section of the board. Last post. Sounds like they are really trying to organize and stock up and are asking for feedback on what everyone would like to see and would like changed. I wish them the best of luck.

Hmmmm wondering what certification would entail. And who would check up on us. How much would it cost. Candle Wealth, well, their problem. I am sure that the have disclaimers like crazy.
Testers. It works. Never sent out a candle to a tester that did not work for me first.
I am sure there are plenty of people here, on the board who would be happy to test. We use to have a program. I tested for a few people here and visa versa.

In somewhat of Bev's defense, many of the areas of this forum are not accessible to new members. In fact, Sara and I have had an email discussion about this over the past week - some of the rules, the "Board Usage" forum, etc are not able to be seen by new members, so it is legit that Bev did not know about the Co-Op rules. The only reason I know about them is that when you are NOT signed in (or before you join here), you have access to read those forums (like the Classifieds). Once you are a new member and signed in, you cannot view many of these areas.
And there is a very good reason for that.

The important thing is to get comfortable with the process of soaping itself. Do it safely is number one. I have done all of the above, poured hot lye right into butters and oils. Room Temp. HP in a pan in the oven.
Know how your fo's are going to react and take it from there. Safety first and a complete understanding of the process is key.

Your dd is just so cute, oh and the soap looks great too.
