  1. I shopped in one in the Detroit metro area a couple years ago. A nice CLEAN store. They sold some fantastic coffee.
  2. Still making those little stocking stuffers for family. This weekend will be Vanilla Passion (Peaks) votives.
  3. Nothing fancy, I only know how to make votives... thanks to the instructions here at Candletech. Eventually, I might branch out and step up to a container candle or two. This weekend I am making 48 Amish Harvest votives. A friend asked me to make some to give to co-workers as a Christmas present. I'm using 4794 wax and an old color chip called "rust" which is really more like a pumpkin color. I made a couple a few days ago and I'm doing a test burn right now using HTP41 wick to see if that will be sufficient for these votives. Have fun everyone!
  4. About how many wick tabs would be in a pound of tab size 20mm 10mm neck? thanks
  5. even though there might be a problem... they are beautiful colors!!
  6. Dove those look fantastic!! how'd you get the beer section to look so realistic? It looks just like a real beer with little bubbles in it!!!
  7. scntdwik and Candle Man: thanks for the advice and the link!!!
  8. I'm just a crafter who makes votives for my own use and to give away. A friend asked if I would make some for her to give to co-workers for a Christmas gift. I am thinking of packaging them in this box: http://www.supplies4candles.com/product.asp?specific=jqepmpf8. I would like to put a little information sheet about Safe Votive Burning in the package. I've seen people do silly things like burn votives in a bowl and not trim the wick, etc etc. So, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to include some instructions and safety tips with each package. Does anyone know where there is a Safe Votive Burning Instructions list on the internet that I could just copy and paste into a document and then print out. I don't want to infringe on anyone's copyright. Thanks.
  9. Super Site, BigCat! Thanks. I bookmarked it!
  10. Debscent-- that's a great color idea. I'm making some green pine votives for stocking stuffers for family (I don't sell any candles, I'm a crafter who gives most of them away). Gold would be a great complementary color with the green pine votives. HenrryK-- Thanks for the info about the colors of frankinsence and myrrh in nature. I didn't know that. My Mom would love the royal purple. She thinks frankincense and myrhh reminds her of church and the priest often wears royal vestments.
  11. Need wick recommendation for Amish Harvest votives using IGI4794 and a orange-ish/pumpkin color (chips). I have LX10, 36-24-24, HTP41 wicks in my supply box. Thanks
  12. I agree, Scented. I first tried HTP41 and couldn't get the sides/edges of the votives to melt.
  13. I helped a friend with an online business many years ago that sold spiritual products. In the beginning, it brought in a few hundred dollars a month, but then more websites started to offer similar products and the competition for customers was tough. Financial success will depend on many factors... How many others in your geographic area are also selling similar products? Will you sell online only or at craft fairs? Will you be able to get gift stores or other stores to carry your products? What kind of profit are you aiming for? Can you be cost competitive with others who sell similar products? How do you plan to keep your base customers coming back for more? The biggest recommendation I can give you DO NOT PLAN TO LIVE OFF YOUR PROFITS FOR THE FIRST TWO TO FIVE YEARS! Most businesses fail because the owners try to live off of their profits before the business is well established. Give yourself and your business time to grow and mature. Be creative and always be willing to compromise and change. Best of luck to you!
  14. I'm making votives to be placed into clear glass votive holders.
  15. Frankincense and Myrrh (from BC) Scent IGI 4794 wax I'll probably use LX10 or 36-24-24 wick... Any color suggestions? Thanks
  16. Another vote for IGI 4794. I use scents from Peaks and BC. I've had good luck with LX10, 36-24-24 and HTP41 wicks in my votives.
  17. A while back someone posted a checklist to give people who test your candles... I tried the search function, but I can't find that post. Would someone please post the list again for me, or post a link to the list? Thanks! Also... does anyone have a list of Safe Burning Tips that I could hand out with my votives? Thanks! :cool2:
  18. Uh oh I have some unpacking to do. Does anyone have a good online supplier of bags that won't cause problems? Are the plastic storage containers you write about SatinDucky like the shoe box size containers at the dollar store? What is the best method to store votives? I need to keep them in some type of container so they won't get damaged.
  19. Is there any reason why I should not use plastic ziplock-type baggies to store freshly poured scented votives? I want to use these baggies for short term (less than a month) and longer term storage. Thanks for responses. :cool2:
