  1. Just my opinion...I love Bittercreek North's goatsmilk soap and their kits are really nice to use when you are just learning. Their soap is really nice! When I started melt and pour I wondered about how good the quality would be. I have since participated in the melt and pour swap on this board and the soaps I have tried feel wonderful and even surprised me that they are not CP. There are a lot of creative things to do with it also. But, by all means try CP if you are up to it. I actually tried it for the first time yesturday. I feel less intimidated by it after having done this first batch. I hope it turns out...lol...it's sleeping right now. Good Luck!:)

  2. Well I ended up using Janis's 1 suggestion so it wouldn't be too drying of a soap and I measured it all in grams without rounding. It took forever to trace but I mixed it by hand...don't have a stick blender yet...lol...will have one tomorrow! I sure hope it turns out because the whole process was about 3 hours. If it don't at least I got my feet and hands wet...lol! Thanks!

    This is what I did:

    2 pound batch

    28% olive oil=254 grams

    55% lard=499 grams

    coconut oil=17%=154 grams

    1 oz f/o

    Water=344 grams

    Lye=126 grams

  3. No my scale doesn't do a tenth of a gram...just whole grams. The smallest ounce measurement is 1/8th and I think that is even less accurate. So if I don't round up or down would this be better?

    2 pound batch

    Coconut-254 grams

    Olive-254 grams

    Lard-399 grams

    Water-344 grams

    Lye-130 grams

-Sorry that I seem to be so confused...I just want to make a safe bar of soap. I may consider your other measurements too...thanks for your help.:)

  4. So I have to use that amount of f/o...I thought I could use less. I punched in the amount of f/o before I hit the calculate button. I think I will need to go by grams too because my scale only goes down to 1/8 oz and round grams to the whole number. If I round grams to the whole number is this accurate enough? Is this going to be a problem?

If I did grams would this be accurate?

    2 pound batch

    Coconut-254 grams

    Olive-254 grams

    Lard-399 grams

f/o 1.31 oz (I can get really close to this)

    Water- 345 grams

    Lye- 131 grams

  5. Hello...I would like to try this recipe. This is my first try at CP and the ingredients were all at the grocery store. I ran it through the soap calculator and it looks like it would work. Would someone check it for me just to be sure? Thanks:)

    Makes a 2 lb batch

    28% olive oil- (9 oz)

    28% coconut oil- (9 oz)

    44% lard- (14 oz)

    1/2 oz fragrance oil

    12 oz distilled water

    5 oz lye

  6. Well...I just bought 2 soap molds from Southern Belle Soaps, 1 small and 1 medium. I heard good things about them on here and they are not gonna make them much longer so thought I'd give them a try. They are more reasonable than the one I posted above. Ordered oils to make a basic cold pour recipe...now just need some lye and freezer paper! I'm so excited!:yay:

  7. I'm looking for advice on molds...I am itching to try CP now and have a recipe that I think I can manage thanks to Kris. Does this mold look like it would work? I like the idea of not having to line the mold...it seems the sides loosen and you push it through one end and cut the soap. Is that what it looks like to you guys? It is pretty spendy but might be worth it. Do you have better advice for molds that work great and are easy to cut the soap after it is hard. I'm afraid I will cut doorstoppers...that's what my husband calls steaks that are cut uneven...he's a meatcutter...lol.:)

    Thanks!

  8. *These will be shipped on Wednesday...thanks again!

Wow! That was fast...thanks for all the volunteers! I will try to get them out by the end of the week. Thanks so much!

I'm looking for 6 people to test my candles. I would like the volunteers to be skilled candle makers and good judges for safety and burn quality. I wan't honest answers...I will not be offended...ect....I have become very anal and paranoid lately...everyone who has tried them says they are fine...but I want to make sure they are before I start selling them. The first people to PM me will get one candle...just let me know which of the following scents you would like to test and the address to send it. Once a scent is picked it will not be available to the next person. I will send you a candle and questionnaire to fill out with postage paid envelope for you to return it back to me...so no cost to you...just your time! Please only people from the US or Canada. Please feel free to ask me any questions!

  9. You should have seen the look I got when I suggested to the last doc that came through our station that he write a script for an Ativan Salt block - for the nurses

Made sense to me - Put it up in the center of the Nurse's station and we could just kinda take a lick as we went by - would never have to even slow down . . .

    (edited cuz I can't spell)

    lol...I love that idea!:yay:
