  1. Hello, I know that any kind of breeze will affect the scent throw, the way the candle burns and will produce soot and smoke. Turn off those fans and enjoy your candles. Lori
  2. Hi Victoria! I know that this can be frustrating, but once you get it right-you become ADDICTED to candle making. I suggest using IGI 4794 for your votive candles. I pour at 175 into slightly warmed molds (I just use a blow dryer until they feel warm). Now this wax does require a repour but the end result is SO worth the effort! I hope this helps you and I hope you might give this idea a try before quitting. Lori
  3. Sorry to hear about that Lisa! I have a friend who sent his father baseball cards for xmas in the amount of $120.00 and the same thing happened to him, only this time the box was shipped by UPS and he got the box back completely empty! Such a shame! It really begs the question "who can we trust anymore?" Lori
  4. Hello, I usually use regular scissors for votives and tealights and nail clippers for containers or my really thick wicks to get an even cut. HTH Lori:)
  5. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I really appreciate everyone's input. When I get this hurricane done I will post a pic in the gallery. Thanks again Lori
  6. Thanks to both of you! I thought about a coffee can as well, but I think it might rust:embarasse . I'm gonna see about buying a pot for this particular wax then. I think my hurricane is 6" across. I have to make sure that the pot I buy will fit into my little fry daddy pot! Thanks again. Lori
  7. Hello! For those who dip hurricane or other candles, what do you use as your dipping pot? I just made a perfect hurricane and then realized that I had nothing big enough to melt my wax in for dipping it! Someday, I am actually going the think things through before I attempt something new! Any suggestions would be great! Thanks--Lori
  8. ...well, I don't want to get too graphic on this board, but I'm sure you all understand! Ok, here's my problem with my 3 wick mold. I am using IGI 4625 pillar wax and the "suggested" wick from the mold manufacturer which is 34-37 flt ctn cr wxd (whatever that all means!) Anyway, the problem is after several burns the sides of the candle start to cave in then I have a pool of melted wax all over the place. I'd like to be able to offer these to customers, but I just can't seem to get the wicking perfect. Any help would be sooooo appreciated. Thanx Lori
  9. For the Autumn season, I mix brown with orange to get that "spicy" look to my candles. HTH Lori
  10. Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anyone ever tried using wax chunks, like little heart shaped chunks, on the outside of a hurricane shell? I thought I might try using the tacky wax to adhere them. Any thoughts? Thanks Lori
  11. Hello Everyone, I am ready to try the 'canes with dried flowers. I bought both the tacky wax in a little cup and a block of the micro-chrystelline (sp?) wax. My question is how many times do I have to over-dip the 'cane. I plan on using hurricane wax (I think it's IGI 1260) should I over dip with that same wax? Thanks for any suggestions! Lori:)
  12. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! At least I know where to start now! Lori:yay:
  13. Hi everyone! I'm in need of some color help. I was asked to do votives for a wedding reception, hydrangea scented and hydrangea blue colored. I am having a hard time finding or even trying to make this color. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks everyone! Lori
  14. Hello, Does anyone know how much wax the 5" Saturn mold will hold? Also, can I use silicone spray on this plastic mold as my mold release? Thanks for any help Lori;)
  15. Thanks Satin. I kinda thought they were hollow inside. I have a regular hurricane mold with an insert, but I love these small round ones. My next question to you is do you just pour into one half then let it set up on the sides then pour out the rest of the wax out like a regular hurricane?
  16. Hello, I just love your candles with the flowers on them. We spoke before about these and you told me that you use the tacky wax to adhere the flowers then dipped them in wax. :highfive: My question is are they hollow inside or do you pour container wax inside? It is hard for me to tell from the pictures. I would love to make these for my sisters for xmas next year. Thanks for sharing your photos and for any pointers you can give me. LoriH
  17. Not sure how to fix the wax falling off but I DO know that I LOVE these 'canes! Absolutely gorgeous work! LoriH
  18. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the compliments and the suggestion about selling my uneven house!
  19. It is a Palm Wax from BC called Granite 5801-A. Now my favorite wax!
  20. These are the pillars I showed at my open house last month. I scented them pumpkin spice and used Autumn type colors. I got alot of orders for this particular candle. The wax is so easy to use and the effects are beautiful. Hope you like 'em. PS - I know they look uneven, but it's me that took the picture leaning sideways over my laundry tub! I like to use the tile for my background.
  21. I absolutely love those candles~ they look awesome! LoriH
  22. Those look really great! I am a BIG fan of the granite wax. During my Christmas show last week, I featured a 4 x 6 granite pillar with 3 different colors. People went crazy for it! I had 10 orders just for that particular candle! Besides the really cool look of it, it is so easy to use!
  23. Absolutely beautiful Donita! Do you insert the flowers in the same manner as you would for a photo hurricane candle? These are just gorgeous! LH
