  1. Trisha, lots of suppliers sell sample packs of wicks in different sizes. That's what you really need to get. Regardless of any guideline you read, it's a shot in the dark to just buy one size of wick. Even one FO versus another can change the size you need. The sample packs cost more per wick but it's a good value because you pay for shipping just once and can be confident the wick you need is in there somewhere. Once you get familiar with the sizes you need most often you can buy those individually.

Thanks Top and everyone else. I just have a simple mind and think there is one thing right for everything. I guess what I don't realize is that there is a process of getting there. Guess that's why I've been married Twice:confused:

  2. It changed the format when it posted...sorry!

    Let's try this again:

Item # Paraffin Candle Diameter Pre-Tabbed Length

    CD-3 1"-1.5" tealights 1.5"

    CD-4 1.5"-2" votives 2.5"

    CD-5 2" votives 3"

    CD-6 2" - 2.5" 3.5"

    CD-8 2.5" - 3" 4"

    CD-10 3" - 3.5" 5"

    CD-12 3.5" 5.5"

    CD-14 3.5" to 4" 6"

    CD-16 4" to 4.25" 6"

    CD-18 4.25" to 4.5" 6"

    CD-20 4" to 5" 7"

    CD-22 4.5" to 5" 8"

It still sounds like CD8 is right for me. I ordered some this morning, so I hope so. But then again, this is all trial and error for me right now till I get it right. I really appreciate your input:grin2:

  3. Here is a chart I took from the candles and supplies website. I guess you could start with a CD8 as it says here, and go from there!

Wow I don't understand a bit of that, but if you say CD8 I'll take your word for it. Thanks

  4. Thanks for the quick replies. So I guess I'll go ahead with the kit from Peaks. I wish I had a place close by that I could pick it up. I'm so anxious to get started.

I paid a total of $60 for the container kit. That includes shipping so not bad. I'm so happy that is what I started with. Good Luck:highfive:

  5. Hello and welcome. I'm fairly new also, but know you will not find a kit that contains everything you need. In my opinion Peaks Container kit is the best value. If container is what you want to make. That is what I bought and was very satisfied. The only other extras I needed to buy was a hot glue gun and a scale. Hope this helps:confused:

  6. I am so baffled. The very first candle I made a few weeks ago were great. I used 2lbs. Peaks performance blend with 2oz. Peaks Mandarin plum. Poured in 8oz tins. Used 51-32-18z wicks. The scent throw was great hot and cold.

Now I poured the same wax 1oz per pound of FO Peaks Almond Paistry. There is hardly any hot throw. So I tried J-50 1oz of Peaks Clean Cotton per pound. This is even worse. There is no hot throw whatsoever. So I tried 44-32-18z wicks. No different. What am I doing wrong?

  7. I want to try some samples, but I don't know. Most of the time cheap prices mean low quality. I'll order some and let ya'll know what I think. But then again I'm so new to the game I might not be able to tell the difference. If any one else tries them out send me a PM Same goes for any advice on FO's

    Thanks Ya'll:grin2:

  8. I haven't looked quite everywhere yet, but I got some nice 11 and 20 oz tureens from Candlemaker's Store for ab 1.50 ea, along with 8 oz JJ for ab 60 cents each, they do have a nice selection. :smiley2:

Thanks, I'll check into that. Don't have much $$ right now. I've already broken the bank in supplies in just my first 3 weeks AHHH:cry2:

  9. O.K. I need help. I was so proud of my first candles in 4oz. tins. They came out perfect. Now I made my second batch and I'm almost embarrassed by them. I used Peak perfomance blend both times. In my second batch I poures in 8oz jj and 4oz tin. This morning I noticed they are all uneven at the top and have sort of a pot hole around the wick. Can anyone help? I really want to fix this.

  10. I made my first candles yesterday. 4 oz. tins mandarin plum from Peak. Not a single flaw:grin2: Tonight I made 8oz. jj with almond pastries. This FO smells like Amaretto to me instead. Anyway, still a great scent.

These are my first, but I have to say Peak Performance Blend(container) ROCKS:yay: Now in the next few days I get a shippment of J-50 I hope it does as well.

  11. How do I even begin? I don't have a name, design or any computer knowledge. Where on earth should I start. I already have customers from samples I gave out. I want to be profesional. How do I make or order them? Any advice appreciated.

  12. I use a small measuring glass that looks like a shot glass with measurements on the side. You can get them for $1 and change at Wally World. Or you could put your fo in a dixie cup and weigh it. First you'd have to place your empty dixie cup on the scale and weigh it, then hit tare, then add your fo to get an accurate weight. Weighing your fo is definately more accurate as some fo's weigh more than others, but I usually just use the measuring glass and don't bother with the weighing of it, it seems to work out for me most of the time....unless it's a really heavy bakery or vanilla scent, then I'd weigh it.

What kind of scale do you use for weighing your wax? Where did you get it and (if you don't mind) what was the cost. Need to do everything in moderation right now
