  1. OK I have tested so many wicks and I am so frustrated. At the current moment I am testing LX14, LX18, 51Z, 44-32-18Z, and RRD34. I use 8oz JJ and either J50 or J223.

I can't find a wick that does that doesn't mushroom:angry2: I was wondering if there is such a thing. When I buy candles at the store they rarely mushroom.

Can someone let me in on the secret?

  2. you spend more time on this message board than actually making candles?

I'm just wondering if I'm alone on this. I love to get all the info and pas it on as it comes. Because of my aunry 2 year old son, I have my challenges with getting anything done. I have to make my candles when he goes to bed. Usually around 9 pm By this time, like right now my brain does not function too well and I just want to pass out.

My question is, how do ya'll single moms and dads keep up with it?

I feel so weake right now

  3. HEHMOM, please don't get too upset from the answers you get on this board. I know they can somtimes be upsetting, but 9 times out of 10 people are just trying to help. We just all have different personalities and that is what I think makes the world go round. Just my opinion, but how boring would it be if we all said YES to the same thing and SMILED when we were NOT HAPPY;) I also get offended sometimes, but ya know what.......nobody can insult or embarrass you unless you let them. So please feel free to ask anything you want. Plenty of Kind people to help

  4. Different suppliers carry different sample packs. Say you were looking for LX wicks. With Peaks you get 65 wicks, 5 of each of 13 sizes they carry for $7. Bittercreek has 5 of each of 14 different sizes only a couple of dollars more. Candles & Supplies 35 wicks (only 7 different sizes) for the same price as Peaks.

If you bought a minimum of 3 sizes of 100 for $7.00 each, you are spending way more than a sample pack. What if you find LX's just aren't going to work they soot way too much and have to try HTPs or CDs or RRDs. You can end up with hundreds of wicks laying around (or have to put in the classifieds) and spending way more money.

I'd personally rather buy more FO's. Then again, I know that what works for me, doesn't necessarily work for anyone else. As long as you're happy with what you do, go for it. HTH santa big

You are right. I just never looked into sample packs before. I didn't realize there were that many options. Thank you so much for your info

  5. Thanks Trisha for your polite reply. Appreciate it. santa cool

You are more than welcome. Good luck with your testing. I am also testing J223. It is so hard to find the "perfect" wax. I have had ups and downs with all. Especially wicking. I'm sure all here are the same. That's why this board is such a great place.

    TEAM WORK:highfive:

  6. In the end, samplers are cheaper, but I sit here with hundreds upon hundreds of different kinds of wicks so I UNDERSTAND :rolleyes2 I would start with the J50 first, that is an easier wax to wick & start with the RRD40 unless, like geekrunner said you are using a heavier FO, then try RRD47. HTH & good luck

Thank you so much:highfive: I'm so glad I found this message board. Like you said, if I bought sample packs I would have so many laying around unused. Probably go more insane than I already am:p Maybe I'll ask someone around here to trade a few with me.

  7. Thats sounds a little small to me. You usually need to wick up more then you would think when using a pre-blend one pour w/ these wicks. Just a thought but if your wanting to test RRD's w/ you jar/wax combo why not get a sample pack instead?

I probably should get a sample pack. I always try to go the cheapest route and wind up spending more in the long run. Don't know why I do it. I got LX 18 and they seem to be too much. Wanted to try LX 14 but then ran accross RRD so thought I would ask about them to maybe try. I appreciate the input. It'll probably save me alot of time and $$.

What RRD would you suggest for my application?

  8. Not commenting on the best, as I have nothing to compare to, but Candle Cocoon's SE mountain black cherry will blow the doors off with it's smell. Definitely an oil to use at less than 1 oz pp.

Does it have a fuel smell at all? I have not tried anything from candle cocoon, but I'll check prices. Thanks.
