  1. I mix it with PB, I didn't have a problem with the first case. My tarts snapped into cubes out of the clamshells and popped out of the warmers without an issue. I made hundreds of clams without any issues until I got to the new case. I was asking if 464 should be greasy because I'd like to know if there is something wrong with the wax
  2. Peaks Wild Mountain Honey smells just like melted beeswax to me. Rich, slightly floral and sweet
  3. I started on my tart making journey in January 2013, and ended up buying a #50 case of GB464. Life happened and I wasn't able to use up the rest of the case until last month and I ordered a new case from Candle Wic a week ago. The new case is really wet (?) the wax is sticky, soft and feels greasy. The last case I had wasn't like that at all. I made some tarts and after a few days of curing the tarts are oily and sticking to the clamshells and souffle cups. (I mix the 464 with pb) This is only my 2nd case so I'm not sure what the norm is, what is 464 supposed to be like?
  4. I'm in the Utica/Rome area! Must be something in the water around here. We also have a zoo, 1 golden, 1 cat, 2 parrots, a house bunny, 2 chinchillas, 2 cows, 2 alpacas, 4 turkeys, and bunches of chickens and ducks.
  5. I made 8oz of soy tarts with .5oz of NG Buttercream Cupcake in 135/PB soy blend. OOB the FO was yummy. After a 7 day cure the tarts (in souffle cups) smelled good but I could definitely catch a chemically undertone. I've had a few family members smell them and it's about a 50/50 split on who gets the off scent. I put about 1 oz in my warmer and it smelled delicious for about 2-3 hours. I had it warming in my bedroom and I would smell it in my living room, it has the best scent throw I've gotten yet! I walked into my bedroom around the 4 hour mark at it had started to smell like burned play dough. That's the best way I can describe the smell. I turned of the warmer. The next day I turned it back on, same thing happened. Really nice for a few hours then just awful. Did I do something wrong? I heated to 180, added FO, stirred for 2 minutes, poured at 150. I used orange liquid dye from NG as well.
  6. I started my first batch of tarts on Tuesday using a PB/135 blend. I've have really strong CT since the first night. First I tried Pumpkin Cheesecake (NG) in 100% 135 (left over from a candle test). Really yummy CT, but after 1 hr on the burner I had to basically stick my face in the melter to smell it. I put it in our little bathroom and shut the door, after and hour I checked it and it did fill the small room but it was really weak after opening the door. What is the baseline for the cure? Does CT have any relevence to HT? I tried searching but all I found was about candles. The Basil and Herb (CS) is strong enough that the 1oz shot scents my kitchen without being heated. Last night (48 hour cure) I put one of the cubes in a walmart electric burner in my bathroom. The smell was pretty strong in the bathroom and when i opened the door went into the hall way. My husband turned it off when he went in the bathroom (um hello? it's on because you're in the bathroom! :embarasse) after about 3 hours. There was no frosting when it was in cube shape but after cooling there was some around the edges. Does that matter? Is it an indication that my tarts will frost in a few weeks/months?
  7. I (FINALLYY!!) got my wax yesterday so my testing has begun. I started with a 8oz 50/50 ecosoya 135/PB and 75/25 of the same with creamy vanilla nutmeg (JS). I also poured 8oz Basil and Herb in the 75/25 just so I could try my fancy green dye chips (it's the little things) Everything has popped out looking fancy and smooth, good cold throw from both. I wasn't sure about the basil and herb OOB but it's growing on me. I keep opening a portion cup and sniffing the wax every time I walk by! I felt like a mad scientist with my wax, scale, little bottles and portion cups! Now the waiting....
  8. Hello! I've been reading here for a few weeks, I pour beeswax candles at work but I'm looking into developing my own line of tarts (original plan was to get an embroidery machine and start a business but finding one for less than 8k is impossible!) I'm currently waiting on delivery of my wax and clam shells. More to the point, I am a craft/lifestyle blogger and I try to be a generally helpful person. I've learned a lot about burning candles here, mostly that I should never be allowed to burn them, ever. I'm a power burner all the way, and I never even knew it was a problem! If you had a relatively large (I hope!) audience, what would you like them to know? What safety tips do you give your customers that you wish they listened to? Thanks! I hope to get my wax on Tuesday so I can get testing.
