  1. Well, now I know! I sure do hope the soap will be ok tough, mixing the lye in like that.
  2. Oh my god, what a travesty! I thought I'd try making 10 lbs, splitting it betwenn 2 4lb molds and 1 2lb mold. My first mistake: I put enough lye in for 8 lbs of soap. Just ater I started stirring I realied it and quickly mixed the remaining lye water. I soaked it in an ice bath till it was about 120 degrees. The soap was at about 80 degrees. By the way could someone please tell me if they think it'll still be ok? Second, third and fourth mistakes: I decided to pre weigh all my fo's and eo's in solo cups. BIG mistake! Everything but the Sweetcakes rosemary mint melted the cups and went all over everything. The good news is, I divided the soap up great, and I think my swirls did fine. My spearmint eucalyptus is now spearmint only because all of my eucalyptus melted onto the counter. We can all breathe very well right now lol! I felt like I was in an I Love Lucy episode.
  3. Ok, here's the situation. I have my very first craft fair coming up. I have 4 lbs. of soap to make, rosemary mint fo, green coloring, dried peppermint, and one shot at this. Do I swirl or solid? Do I add the peppermint? What can I do to really make this stand out?
  4. Thank you very much, that answered it. Sometimes I need the obvious pointed out lol. Math intimidates me.
  5. If I wanted two make 8 lbs. of soap, but pour them into 2 4 lb. molds with a different scent each, what would be the best way to do that? It may sound like a silly question, but I've never done it. One more question: I try to adjust the size of the recipe to the size of my mold, but always end up filling it to the rim. I want it to be about 3/4 full. The inside dimensions are 14 x 3 1/4 x 3 1/4. I know there's a calculator on this site, but I want to make sure I get the right weights.
  6. Well, I think you guys definately gave me a solid answer lol! Turns out it's the 24th year of this show, so it's well established. I commented to the lady about the good price and she said they like to showcase small businesses that are trying to start out and that's the whole reason they started the thing in the first place. So now I just have to figure out how much of everything to make. Any suggestions? By the way, here is my website: http://www.persephonesgarden.biz
  7. I've just been informed of a craft show/autumn festival in my area. The booth fee is $75 for two days and they expect between 7000-10000 to attend. They don't charge a door fee, so it's harder to keep track of. We are not in the best of finances right now, and I really need to get my products out there. Does this sound like a possibly good thing, or should I put this money towards bills? Also, they are only accepting handmade things, and she seemed to really be into the whole soap/bath stuff thing. I've never done a craft show before, so I just don't know.
  8. I know ODB is One-Der-Bar, a company that I like to use. They are nice folks and they have good prices. Some stuff you can find cheaper other places, you just have to shop around. I don't know what the other one is though.
  9. That does help quite a bit! I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
  10. These thngs are incredible!! I want to eat them! How long do they need to cure for? I made mine in 1.75 oz soap molds, is that the right size?
  11. Well, they turned back to their original color. Strange interlude though lol!
  12. thanks, I didn't know about the scent review. I used some cocoa powder to try to swirl it a little, maybe that affected it? I'm new to this, can you tell lol.
  13. That's a hopeful thought! Maybe it will. Thanks! Even if it doesn't it'll still be beautiful. My soaps are like my kids, they're all beautiful to me no matter what. So far anyway lol!
  14. Has anyone experienced soap turning pink with Sweetcakes sandalwood FO? The smell is delicious, but they didn't say anything about the soap turning pink.

  16. Now that I think about it, I could just half everything, duh! Nice first post on my part lol!
  17. If you left them white you could maybe pass them off for divinity (wonderful confection). You could also use them for whipped cream topping on some sort of soap tart or something. Too cute!
  18. Hi, everyone! New here, and I was wondering how to reduce the recipe size for the bath melts. The reason I'm asking is that some of it's in weight and some in cups. I know there are 8 oz in a cup, but those are fluid oz, right? I need to make about 9 oz of melts. Can anyone help?
